  • Patent number: 4303370
Abstract: A control apparatus comprises a primary control unit composed of wicket gates of a hydraulic turbine and a secondary control unit composed of a bypass valve which is operated to open or close in cooperation with the opening or closing of the wicket gates. First and second link mechanisms are provided between the wicket gates and a hydraulic pressure distributor valve which is operatively connected to the bypass valve to control opening or closing of the latter. The first link mechanism detects the opening or closing motion of the wicket gates and transmits the corresponding signal to the hydraulic pressure distributor valve for the bypass valve, while the second link mechanism detect position of a pressure distributor valve plunger for the wicket gates and transmits the corresponding signal to the distributor valve for the bypass valve.

  • Patent number: 4303473
Abstract: In a nuclear fusion device having a torus type vacuum shell around which toroidal coils and poloidal coils are wound and arranged and whose interior is maintained in a high vacuum state, the bending rigidity of a shell wall in a circular cross section of the vacuum shell is made higher on the outer periphery side than on the inner periphery side of the circular cross section, thereby to prevent any deformation of the vacuum shell due to a magnetic force and any damage of the shell attendant upon the deformation in a process in which the coils are energized to confine a plasma within the vacuum shell. Moreover, without increasing the inner diameter of the circular cross section of the vacuum shell, the coils are located in proximity to the plasma so as to enhance the plasma producing efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4299534
Abstract: A guide vane protecting device for use in a hydraulic turbine. The device has a braking system having a first and a second braking members by which an initial braking power is imparted to a first control member interposed therebetween. The braking system further has a translational sliding mechanism which permits the translational sliding movement of the first braking member onto the first control member so so to cause a uniform increase of the braking force exerted by the braking members on the first control member, when a weakened pin incorporated in the protecting device is broken by an extraordinary force caused by, for example, jamming of foreign matter between adjacent guide vanes.

  • Patent number: 4295781
Abstract: For rotating the runner of a fluid machine in compressed air atmosphere in the runner chamber after shutting off working water and feeding compressed air to the runner chamber to move the liquid level therein downwardly below the runner while discharging water remaining in the outer peripheral portion of the runner through a leak-water exhaust pipe following starting of pump-operation, an inlet valve opening detector is mounted and operatively connected to a leak-water exhaust valve controller for controlling a leak-water exhaust valve. Stable operation of the fluid machine in spinning-in-air mode can be achieved by opening the leak-water exhaust valve by means of the leak-water exhaust valve controller following lapse of a given period of time after the inlet valve is fully closed, to permit the water remaining in the outer peripheral portion of the runner to be discharged through the leak-water exhaust pipe.

  • Patent number: 4294803
Abstract: In a reactor for cracking heavy hydrocarbon oil through a fluidized bed of the particles of natural ores, coke-like materials are deposited on a top of the reactor or pipe inside surfaces of a transfer line from the reactor to a scrubber. To effectively scour out the deposited coke-like materials, particles of natural ores having a mean diameter of a few hundred .mu.m is made to be contained in an effluent gas from the top of reactor, passing through the transfer line at a concentration of 1 to 40 g/m.sup.3. The particles of natural ores have a good effect of scouring out the deposited coke-like materials and can keep the transfer line efficiently clean even with a small amount of the particles of natural ores, decreasing a pressure drop in the transfer line.

  • Patent number: 4293981
Abstract: A central twin or single chain conveyor with abutments moves crabs through a centering device, beneath leg hold-downs and into an intersecting chain having projections that strike the carapace's leading edge to pivot it away from the crab body, and into a guide that, with the chain carrying the projections, will transport the carapace to a cross conveyor for removal. A central pipe, closed at its upstream end, is stationarily positioned to enter the body cavity and remove the viscera from the crab body, and travels in the body cavity while cleansing liquid is sprayed through holes in the pipe to clean the body cavity and the crab is guided by the pipe. Rotatably driven brushes biased into the crab body will, along with the water sprayed, remove the gills. The central conveyor has link support surfaces on opposite sides of a central plane of symmetry to space the crab body above the central portion of the chain so that a central rotating saw may saw the crab body into two sections, each with the legs attached.

  • Patent number: 4294697
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for removing suspended matter, organic matter and nitrogen compounds in the sewage. A processing tank is provided with a floating-separation zone at the upper portion thereof and an electrolysis zone below the floating-separation zone. A bed of porous adsorbent is disposed in the electrolysis zone and electrodes are disposed among the adsorbent. Bubbles generated upon the feed of current to the electrodes rise up through the floating-separation zone to remove the suspended matter and the organic matter in the sewage before introducing the sewage into the electrolysis zone. The porous adsorbent is polarized by the feed of current to the electrodes and results in removing matter remaining in the sewages, especially nitrogen compounds.

  • Patent number: 4294394
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for continuously hot rolling steel slabs. Separate pieces of steel slabs are continuously fed from a slab yard and delivered to a carriage which is adapted to move reciprocatingly along the line of path of the steel slab pieces. The carriage carries a welder which can move transversely of the path of the slab pieces, and also clamp devices for clamping preceding and succeeding slabs to fix them to the carriage, as means for keeping the preceding and succeeding slab pieces in abutting condition. As a steel strip including a plurality of slab pieces welded together is moved at a predetermined rolling speed into a rolling mill, the carriage moves substantially at the same speed to keep the succeeding slab in abutment with the trailing end of the last slab piece of the steel strip, to permit the welder to weld these slab pieces at their abutting end. This welding is performed only over a part of the cross-sectional area of these slab pieces.
