Abstract: The invention relates to an air-conditioning process, intended particularly for industrial buildings, by means of which air is admitted, at outdoor temperature, into the zone below the roofing, in order to decrease the thermal gradient between the upper and the lower part of the building, and thus diminish the dissipations of heat through the roof. A double ceiling made of porous, preferably translucent, material permits the uniform distribution, over the whole surface of the building, of the air flux shifting from the upper over-pressured area to the lower area.
Abstract: A material presser device on a sewing machine, includes a presser foot which is attached to a vertically movable presser bar and to which lift movements are imparted by a swing mechanism driven by the main shaft acting through a knee-joint transmission which, in its extended position, extends substantially in the movement direction of the presser bar. For positive connection of the presser foot with the swing mechanism, the presser bar is articulated via an intermediate pitman to one end of the connecting rod of a four-joint transmission. The other end of the four-joint transmission is connected by a connecting rod with an abutment which applies under the action of a spring, against a counter abutment secured to the housing. The connecting rod is connected to the knee joint transmission, the knee joint of which is connected to the sewing machine.
Abstract: A feed drive for a stitch group sewing machine includes a cam plate serving to drive a cloth clamp and it is connected with a separate motor. In order to keep the stitch length constant at varying length of the stitch group, the motor speed is controllable by a control device as a function of the rotational speed of the sewing machine, of the transmission ratio of a gearing between cam plate and cloth clamp which determines the length of the stitch group, and of the adjusted stitch length. The stitch group to be sewn can be divided into two sections with a stitch length variable independently of each other, in that a path-dependent switch operable after a partial revolution of the cam plate corresponding to the length of the first section alternately connects one of two potentiometers which determine the stitch length, with the motor control circuit.
Abstract: The device comprises an elongated container (2) which can be attached to the roof (1) or a wall of a vehicle in close engagement therewith and transversely of a direction of travel. The container carries a supply of evaporation liquid (9), and contains an absorbent mat (7a) which emerges from the container at the rear lower edge thereof. The container (2) and mat (7a) can be mounted detachably on the roof (1) or the wall. The container (2) may have a cover (3) and be profiled in the manner of a spoiler. The mat (7a) is adapted to be withdrawn from the container (2) and fixed in its withdrawn state. To produce an excess pressure in the interior of the container the container (2) may have one or more ventilation openings (3c).

Abstract: A sewing machine is equipped with an automatic control assembly for the needle bight and/or the feed dog. The control assembly comprises a control cam block having a plurality of juxtaposed cam track portions to be operatively connected, through a contact mechanism, to the sewing machine needle or to a device for setting the feed dog. The contact mechanism comprises a contact finger which can be set by a handwheel, and a cam track connected to the handwheel, against one of the various cam track portions. The handwheel is mounted on a shaft carrying the control cam block, while the cam track connected to the handwheel forms a ring surrounding the control cam block. The contact finger directly engages the cam track, so that a control assembly of small overall length and having a small number of parts is obtained.
Abstract: A slide bearing surface element is disclosed which can be used in prosthetic joints or mechanical bearing devices. The element has a composite coating made of a matrix of epoxy resin with particles of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 dispersed therein. Cu or stainless steel particles are included to increase thermal conductivity.
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device comprises a plurality of electrically controllable active regions filled with liquid crystal and defined by a plurality of dams, and a plurality of empty passive regions also defined by the dams. An outer peripheral seal completes the closure of the active or passive regions and top and bottom cover plates are provided above and below the regions. The empty passive regions may be partially evacuated to increase the mechanical connection between the cover plates and the active regions may be connected by passages also defined by the dams so that a single filling port can be utilized to fill all of the active regions of liquid crystal.

Abstract: A support for a rod-shaped article particularly microphones comprises a fork member, a partial annular fork having an engagement part and a encircling band assembly disengageably connected to the fork member at two axially spaced locations and defining two encircling bands engageable around the article at two axially spaced locations. The bands comprise alternate band link members which have substantially different shapes with one of the link shapes being constructed to engage the engagement part of the fork member. In one embodiment the link members are made of small and large configurations so that small configurations fit into an engagement recess of the fork member and in another embodiment the link members comprise tubular elements of diameters to engage over rod-like portions of the fork member.

Abstract: A method of immobilizing microorganisms which comprises the steps of bringing a suspension of living cells of a microorganism into contact with a water-insoluble copolymer containing structural units derived from 2-acrylamidoethanesulfonic acid or a derivative thereof to cause the microorganism to become adsorbed on the copolymer, and bringing the water-insoluble copolymer having the microorganism adsorbed thereon into contact with a nutrient medium for the cultivation of the microorganism to increase the number of cells present on the copolymer.
Abstract: A slide valve comprises a valve housing which has a through passage therein with a curved bottom and a recess along the bottom in which is located a resilient seal member. The valve member includes a slide portion which is mounted for upward and downward reciprocal movement in the housing and a guideway formed on each side of the curved bottom. The housing also contains a flange member on each side of the slide plate which has at least one notched portion which defines a scraper edge. The valve plate has a lower stepped portion forming a bottom projecting surface, an upper surface spaced away from the bottom edge and an intermediate ledge surface between the bottom and upper surfaces. The upper surface is curved downwardly at each side toward the bottom surface to define a shearing edge on each side of the slide plate which is cooperable with the scraper edge to dislodge material out of the guideway and the space between the flanges and into the flow stream of the through passage of the valve.
Abstract: A thread changing mechanism for sewing machines includes a magazine in which a plurality of needle holders is received, to be positively coupled to the sewing machine needle bar by a vertical motion of the magazine. Upon effecting a coupling, the magazine is retracted into a starting position remote from the needle bar, so that the needle bar with the needle holder can unobstructedly move during the sewing operation. The thread changing mechanism is mounted on a sewing machine as an attachment later, without particular adjustments. When the needle holders are held in the magazine the thread is engaged with each needle and held out of the way of the operating needle thread.
Abstract: A pressure-chamber grinder comprises a grinder chamber of substantially circular section, which chamber is provided with a feed opening for the material to be ground, fed as a gas-tight plug, and the opposite end of which chamber is provided with an outlet opening for the ground material. Tangentially directed grinding-gas nozzles are fitted and are uniformly spaced around the entire circumference of the mantle face of the grinder chamber, or at least of part of same. Abstract: A blade or thin beam of concentrated coherent light is formed in order to detect and calculate the number of particles present in a moving suspension that flows through a suspension conduit featuring a relatively small section and which is made of optically transparent material. This beam extends through the entire section at a reduced thickness and in the flow direction. A suitable detector detects and counts the particles that move across the blade, operated by the absorption of light that occurs when each individual particle passes through it.

Abstract: Briquettes made from bituminous or sub-bituminous coal or peat are produced by grinding the coal, mixing it with a binder and compacting the mixture. They are then carbonized in a continuous process in a shaft oven. The coal may be predried and the finished briquettes may be preheated, with a subsequent drying and hardening. The carbonization is effected in two stages in an indirectly heated shaft oven, with the evolved gas being taken off about at the mid-height of the oven shaft, processed, and used for heating in the second, high-temperature stage. The flue gases from this high-temperature stage are used for heating in the first stage and for preheating. The second or high-temperature stage is followed by a cooling stage where the gases evolved in the second stage, and mainly comprising hydrogen are used and circulated. The evolved gas in excess is continuously removed from the cooling circuit.
