  • Patent number: 7627014
Abstract: Several methods are used in novel ways with newly identified and viable parameters to decrease the peak transition energies of the pseudomorphic InGaAs/GaAs heterostructures. These techniques, taken separately or in combination, suffice to permit operation of light emitting devices at wavelengths of 1.3 ?m or greater of light-emitting electro-optic devices. These methods or techniques, by example, include: (1) utilizing new superlattice structures having high In concentrations in the active region, (2) utilizing strain compensation to increase the usable layer thickness for quantum wells with appropriately high In concentrations, (3) utilizing appropriately small amounts of nitrogen (N) in the pseudomorphic InGaAsN/GaAs laser structure, and (4) use of nominal (111) oriented substrates to increase the usable layer thickness for quantum wells with appropriately high In concentrations.

  • Patent number: 7627031
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adaptively introducing a compensating signal latency related to a signal latency of a data symbol decision circuit. Adaptive timing control circuitry, including an interpolating mixer implemented as a tapped delay line with correlated tap coefficients, introduces a latency adaptively and substantially matching the latency of the data decision circuit for use within an adaptive equalizer, thereby minimizing the mean-squared error of such decision circuit. This adaptive latency is used in generating the feedback error signal which, in turn, can be used by the feedforward equalizer for dynamically adjusting its adaptive filter tap coefficients.

  • Patent number: 7624123
Abstract: An image processing system and method receives one or more digital images in the form of image data, including selected object data of a digital image, and determines, by an electronic recognition process, if a recognition match is available between the selected object data of the digital image and image object library data associated with image descriptor library data. An automated library user interface presents selectable matched object descriptor data associated with the image descriptor library data when a recognition match occurs between the selected object data of the digital image and the image descriptor library data. In response, the automated library user interface provides user feedback data to confirm that the image descriptor library data corresponds with the selected object data of the digital image, or entered descriptor data if no match or an incorrect match occurs, to create library descriptor associated image data.

  • Patent number: 7623279
Abstract: Systems and methods for recovering data in a holographic memory system. The systems and methods use homodyne detection to introduce a local oscillator beam into a reconstructed data beam of the recovered hologram. An image of the combined beam comprising the reconstructed data beam and local oscillator beam may be processed to obtain contrast level information for the pixels of the detected image. This contrast level information may then be used to obtain an increased contrast image of the recovered hologram, which may increase the SNR of the recovered data.

  • Patent number: 7624287
Abstract: In a power management scheme for a power-consuming (e.g. electronic) device, one of multiple predefined operating parameter sets is selected. Each of the sets comprises multiple operating parameter values for the device. Examples of operating parameters include clock frequency or voltage for example. The selection may be responsive to the detection of an event which warrants a change in a current power consumption state of the device. Any operating parameter value in the selected set that would prevent the device from meeting current operating demands is modified to a new value. The new value may be taken from another operating parameter set. The modified set of parameters is applied to the device in order to change the current power consumption state of the device.
