Abstract: Several methods are used in novel ways with newly identified and viable parameters to decrease the peak transition energies of the pseudomorphic InGaAs/GaAs heterostructures. These techniques, taken separately or in combination, suffice to permit operation of light emitting devices at wavelengths of 1.3 ?m or greater of light-emitting electro-optic devices. These methods or techniques, by example, include: (1) utilizing new superlattice structures having high In concentrations in the active region, (2) utilizing strain compensation to increase the usable layer thickness for quantum wells with appropriately high In concentrations, (3) utilizing appropriately small amounts of nitrogen (N) in the pseudomorphic InGaAsN/GaAs laser structure, and (4) use of nominal (111) oriented substrates to increase the usable layer thickness for quantum wells with appropriately high In concentrations.
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to an electrostatic coating apparatus for spraying a stream of particles onto a medium, and in particular to an apparatus equipped with a powder coating suspension device such as a multivolume chamber, or a air stream creation device. What is also contemplated is the use of a plurality of variable openings in the enclosure, used in conjunction with a plurality of conductors, to dispose a stream of particles onto a moving medium in successive layers. In yet another embodiment, the stream of particles is directed in a directional electrical field created by electrodes placed adjacent to directional shields. The present disclosure relates to an in-line industrial device able to coat paint, starch, thermoplastic materials, or any other powder material onto a medium by successively controlling a plurality of parameters.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adaptively introducing a compensating signal latency related to a signal latency of a data symbol decision circuit. Adaptive timing control circuitry, including an interpolating mixer implemented as a tapped delay line with correlated tap coefficients, introduces a latency adaptively and substantially matching the latency of the data decision circuit for use within an adaptive equalizer, thereby minimizing the mean-squared error of such decision circuit. This adaptive latency is used in generating the feedback error signal which, in turn, can be used by the feedforward equalizer for dynamically adjusting its adaptive filter tap coefficients.
Abstract: An image processing system and method receives one or more digital images in the form of image data, including selected object data of a digital image, and determines, by an electronic recognition process, if a recognition match is available between the selected object data of the digital image and image object library data associated with image descriptor library data. An automated library user interface presents selectable matched object descriptor data associated with the image descriptor library data when a recognition match occurs between the selected object data of the digital image and the image descriptor library data. In response, the automated library user interface provides user feedback data to confirm that the image descriptor library data corresponds with the selected object data of the digital image, or entered descriptor data if no match or an incorrect match occurs, to create library descriptor associated image data.
Abstract: Systems and methods for recovering data in a holographic memory system. The systems and methods use homodyne detection to introduce a local oscillator beam into a reconstructed data beam of the recovered hologram. An image of the combined beam comprising the reconstructed data beam and local oscillator beam may be processed to obtain contrast level information for the pixels of the detected image. This contrast level information may then be used to obtain an increased contrast image of the recovered hologram, which may increase the SNR of the recovered data.
Abstract: In a power management scheme for a power-consuming (e.g. electronic) device, one of multiple predefined operating parameter sets is selected. Each of the sets comprises multiple operating parameter values for the device. Examples of operating parameters include clock frequency or voltage for example. The selection may be responsive to the detection of an event which warrants a change in a current power consumption state of the device. Any operating parameter value in the selected set that would prevent the device from meeting current operating demands is modified to a new value. The new value may be taken from another operating parameter set. The modified set of parameters is applied to the device in order to change the current power consumption state of the device.

Each of the hinge pins having at least one hollow end portion communicating axially with one of the stationary and movable portions permitting ink flow. Each of the hinge pins also having a radial passage for ink, whereby the ink may pass from the stationary portion to the movable portion, and whereby the ink may be supplied to the movable portion during change of the relative positions of the stationary and movable portions.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to thermal management apparatus for a circuit substrate having heat generating components mounted on one or both sides thereof. The apparatus and method includes a circuit assembly having a first thermally conductive layer disposed on each side of the circuit substrate and being thermally coupled to one or more heat generating components of the circuit substrate. The apparatus and method includes a second thermally conductive layer disposed on each side of the circuit substrate and being thermally coupled to the first thermally conductive layer. The first thermally conductive layer and the thermally conductive layer can be shaped, sized, and/or configured to provide cooling of the one or more heat generating components disposed on each side of the circuit substrate by transferring and spreading the heat to the outside of the circuit assembly.

Abstract: A device and method are provided that generate an early warning disconnect signal from an electrical connector supplying external power to a connected device. The connected device includes an early warning disconnect power management circuit, operational to generate power consumption control information in response to generation of the early warning disconnect signal from the electrical connector. In one example, the electrical connector includes a lock release mechanism and a signaling mechanism, the signaling mechanism is operationally coupled with the lock release mechanism and configured to generate the early warning disconnect signal from the electrical connector to the connected device prior to the lock release mechanism being in an unlocked state.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for testing a modified specimen such as a dried blood spot, plasma or serum specimen, for an analyte of interest, such as cholesterol. In accordance with the disclosed subject matter, the level of the analyte of interest in the medium from which the modified specimen was obtained (e.g., from a patient's blood) is determined based on the level of an analyte in a solution formed from the modified specimen and on the level of at least one normalizing analyte. The analyte and normalizing analyte each may be an ion, compound, biochemical entity, or property of the specimen. Also disclosed are a fluid collector and a fluid collection device.
