Abstract: The radiation power emitted from the UV radiation sources (2) in a weathering apparatus is controlled such that the radiation power of each of the radiation sources (2) is measured in a predetermined spectral range of the radiation emitted from the radiation sources, with the spectral range being chosen such that the measured radiation power is representative of the radiation power in the UV, an averaged radiation power is calculated from the measured radiation powers, and the averaged radiation power is used for controlling the electrical power to be supplied to the radiation sources (2). In particular, the control process can be carried out in such a way that the same electrical power, within a predetermined tolerance bandwidth, is supplied to each of the radiation sources (2), and the averaged radiation power is kept constant over time at a desired nominal value.

Abstract: A sigma-delta difference-of-squares RMS-to-DC converter and method for performing such a conversion in which an analog feedback signal is combined with an analog input signal, following which the combined signals are multiplied to produce an analog product signal that includes at least one signal component corresponding to a difference between a square of the analog feedback signal and a square of the analog input signal. This analog product signal is filtered and digitized to produce a digital output signal to be available for use downstream in or with the host system, with such digital output signal also being converted to the analog feedback signal.

Abstract: A central processor unit (CPU) is connected to a system/graphics controller generally comprising a monolithic semiconductor device. The system/graphics controller is connected to an input output (IO) controller via a high-speed PCI bus. The IO controller interfaces to the system graphics controller via the high-speed PCI bus. The IO controller includes a lower speed PCI port controlled by an arbiter within the IO controller. Generally, the low speed PCI arbiter of the IO controller will interface to standard 33 MHz PCI cards. In addition, the IO controller interfaces to an external storage device, such as a hard drive, via either a standard or a proprietary bus protocol. A unified system/graphics memory which is accessed by the system/graphics controller. The unified memory contains both system data and graphics data. In a specific embodiment, two channels, CH0 and CH1 access the unified memory.

An extruding unit includes an annular plunger disposed movably within the housing, and dividing the upper passage section into the inner and outer passage sections. Two differently colored plastics can be extruded by the single annular plunger from the inner and outer passage sections through the die head.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating hierarchical depth culling characteristics includes determining a first minimum depth value and a first maximum depth value for a first graphical element. The graphical element may be a primitive. The first minimum depth value may be a minimum Z-plane depth of a pixel within the primitive and a first maximum depth value is a maximum Z-plane value for a pixel within the primitive. The method and apparatus further includes determining a second minimum depth value and a second maximum depth value for a second graphical element, which may be a tile. The method and apparatus further includes calculating an intersection depth range having an intersection minimum depth value and an intersection maximum depth value based on the intersection of the first minimum depth value and the first maximum depth value and the second minimum depth value and the second maximum depth value.

Abstract: A computing device that allows for a flexible allocation of bandwidth among peripheral devices using a peripheral bus is disclosed. The computing device includes a peripheral bus and at least two slots. The computing device may be used with a single peripheral card or multiple peripheral cards. In a multi-card configuration the invention allows the bandwidth on the peripheral bus to be shared by all the cards. In a single-card configuration, the computing device allows available bandwidth on the peripheral bus to be used by a single card. The device is particularly useful with PCI express compliant expansion cards, such as graphics adapters.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for multi-modal communication includes a controller (236) operably coupled to at least one multi-modal session proxy server (226). On a per multi-modal session basis, the controller (236) provides the multi-modal session proxy server (226) with a multi-modal proxy identifier (138). The multi-modal proxy identifier (138) is then provided to at least one browser with a per session multi-modal proxy evaluator (220) having a browser proxy identifier (140) wherein the browser proxy identifier (140) is evaluated in view of the multi-modal proxy identifier (138). The multi-modal session proxy server (226) then receives an information request (231) from the browser with per session multi-modal proxy evaluator (220) wherein the requested information is fetched from a content server (240).
Abstract: A video signal mode detector for automatically detecting and indicating the type of video signal being received in terms of its video signal characteristics, including horizontal line count and progressive or interlaced scanning.
Abstract: A snow plow with a clutch mechanism for allowing the plow blade to deflect when an off-center portion the blade strikes an obstacle. The clutch comprises two plates in axial alignment, with one plate being attached to brackets for the plow support and the other plate being attached to brackets supporting the blade. One plate has a number of small protuberances and the other plate a corresponding number of shallow pockets. The plates are releasably held in nested relation by an axially adjustable mechanism.
Abstract: An automated X-ray imaging system and method for producing a plurality of X-ray imaging signals having selectively enhanced volumetric image resolutions, e.g., for magnifying the field of view and providing a volumetric display image having features not otherwise visible to an unaided human eye. Successive doses of X-ray radiation are applied to a portion of the subject to produce corresponding volumetric image signals. Such doses of X-ray radiation are controlled by controlling X-ray radiation characteristics, such as intensity, focal spot size, focal spot location, focal spot shape, or collimation, to cause a subsequent volumetric image signal to differ from a prior volumetric image signal in one or more volumetric image characteristics, such as volumetric image resolution.

Abstract: A method for determining consistency of a permeability of a ferromagnetic material in integrated circuits in which a test strip of the subject ferromagnetic material is included for testing with an impedance measurement instrument, such as an inductance-capacitance-resistance (LCR) meter, with which the resistance of the strip of ferromagnetic material over a range of measurement signal frequencies is determined based upon the measured impedance values. The measured impedance values, measurement signal frequencies and selected permeability values are then used in numerical simulations to produce multiple resistance versus frequency curves each of which corresponds to one of the selected permeability values.
