  • Patent number: 6782040
Abstract: A code division multiple access communication system transmits a pilot and traffic signal over a shared spectrum. The pilot and traffic signal have an associated code. Signals are received over the shared spectrum. The received signals are sampled. The samples are delayed to produce a window. The window has evenly time spaced samples. Each window sample is despread with a pilot code. A weight for each despread pilot code window sample is determined using an adaptive algorithm. Each window sample is despread with a traffic code. Each despread traffic code window sample is weighted with a corresponding weight of the determined weights. The despread traffic code window sample are combined as data of the traffic signal.

  • Patent number: 6781385
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a current direction in a PWM converter or an inverter having one or more upper and lower arms, each of which consists of a switching device with an anti-parallel diode. The voltage across the switching device presents a different value and a polarity that depend on the direction of the current flowing through the switching device, wherein the current direction is acquired by sampling this voltage in the period of the trigger signal being on. In a case of small current, this sampled voltage value is relatively large to the flowing current magnitude and is easy to be distinguished. Furthermore, this invention presents a method for obtaining the phase angle between the load current and the output voltage, and judging whether the output current is zero or includes DC component. As a result, this method presents high precision.

  • Patent number: 6782359
Abstract: Linear predictive coding (LPC) filter parameters are determined for use in encoding a voice signal. Samples of a speech signal using a z-transform function are pre-emphasized. The pre-emphasized samples are analyzed to produce LPC reflection coefficients. The LPC reflection coefficients are quantized by a voiced quantizer and by an unvoiced quantizer producing sets of quantized reflection coefficients. Each set is converted into respective spectral coefficients. The set which produces a smaller lag-spectral distance is determined. The determined set is selected to encode the voice signal.

  • Patent number: 6778515
Abstract: A subscriber station for a cellular system that utilizes transmission diversity by transmitting a plurality time slotted signals for communicating data. A receiver sequentially receives at least a first data signal corresponding to the data in a first time slot and a second data signal corresponding to the data in a second time slot. The second time slot occurring after the first time slot so that the data signals are not simultaneously received. A combiner for reconstructs the data from the received data signals. Where the subscriber station is for a CDMA cellular system, the receiver receives the first and second time slotted data signals as PN spread spectrum modulated data signals. A despreader and demodulator despreads and demodulates the received data signals using PN codes and the combiner reconstructs the data from the despread and demodulated data signals.

  • Patent number: 6778840
Abstract: A method of controlling transmission power during the establishment of a channel in a CDMA communication system utilizes the transmission of a short code from a subscriber unit to a base station during initial power ramp-up. The short code is a sequence for detection by the base station which has a much shorter period than a conventional spreading code. The ramp-up starts from a power level that is lower than the required power level for detection by the base station. The subscriber unit quickly increases transmission power while repeatedly transmitting the short code until the signal is detected by the base station. Once the base station detects the short code, it sends an indication to the subscriber unit to cease increasing transmission power. The use of short codes limits power overshoot and interference to other subscriber units and permits the base station to quickly synchronize to the spreading code used by the subscriber unit.

  • Patent number: 6778178
Abstract: A graphic accelerator interface device for a computer is provided. The accelerator has a host data path that includes a plurality of comparators, each assigned to permit os/application access to a different “surface” which is defined by an address range corresponding to a block of data in a frame buffer. • Patent number: 6778812
Abstract: A call admission control method which operates under a variety of conditions. When only common measurements are available, the call admission control function at the CRNC will accept or reject a request based on: common measurements of the target cell and neighboring cells; estimated common measurements after admission; and the measure of load of the target cell and neighboring cells. When no measurements are available, the call admission control function at the CRNC can accept or reject a request based on estimated load of the target cell and neighboring cells, instead of relying on UE/UTRAN measurements. The load may be estimated using the following information: 1) required signal to noise ratio (SIR) of the radio link setup/reconfiguration request; and 2) required SIR of existing CCTrCHs in the target cell and neighboring cells.

  • Patent number: 6776528
Abstract: Cooperating strips respectively having loop-type and hook-type connector surfaces are passed through loops forming handles of carrying bags to retain the carrying bags as a group. The ends of the strips, which are typically taken from supply rolls have saw tooth ends, and are heat sealed for protection against fraying. In one embodiment, the strips are aligned end to end. In another embodiment, the loop-type and hook-type connections are staggered so that a first end of one of the strips lies intermediate the ends of the other strip, and whereby the opposite end of the first strip, after being passed through the handles of the bags is brought around so as to lie adjacent to the first end of the first strip. A method is provided for forming the hook-type and loop-type strips to prevent fraying due to use.

  • Patent number: 6775531
Abstract: A subscriber unit of a time division multiple access (TDMA) radiotelephone system is, from a power consumption standpoint, reconfigured in each time slot of a TDMA frame to a power consumption tessellation in which subscriber unit circuit components not needed for communication signal processing in that time slot are powered down, and other components are powered up. Some circuit components are powered down by switching their power supply circuits. In order to minimize the extent of circuitry that must be provided to distribute power consumption control signals, other techniques (which utilize circuitry provided for other purposes), such as clock frequency control or power down commands, also are utilized to modify controlled circuit component power consumption without actually controlling power supply circuits.

  • Patent number: 6773467
Abstract: A storage capacitor of a planar display is disclosed. The storage capacitor includes a substrate, a lower electrode, an insulator layer, and an upper electrode in space order. The lower electrode is made of a semiconductor material such as polysilicon. The upper electrode is made of metal or polysilicon. For the metallic upper electrode, the upper electrode is patterned to have a comb, fishbone or net shape in order to allow dopants penetrating therethrough to reach the lower electrode, thereby increasing the conductivity of the lower electrode. A process for fabricating such storage capacitor is also disclosed. For the case that both the upper and lower electrodes are made of polysilicon, two doping procedures of different doping intensities are performed to provide dopants for the upper and lower electrodes, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6774903
Abstract: An advanced dot-stretch anti-sparkle technique analyzes the stream of display pixels to determine an optimal time for performing the dot-stretch operation. The system searches the stream of display pixels for a current and previous pixel that are the same color. The system then performs the host access and the dot-stretch during the pixel match. If a pixel match is not detected within a predetermined period of time, the search for two matching pixels is abandoned and the dot-stretch process is implemented.

  • Patent number: 6770984
Abstract: The proposed voltage regulator has a power converter, a switch, a transformer, and a switching control device. The power converter is electrically connected to a power source for providing a voltage to compensate the output voltage of the voltage regulator when the output voltage is higher or lower than a predetermined level. The transformer is electrically connected to the switch for being used as a variable voltage source and the connecting configuration of the switch is determined by the input voltage. Also, the switching control device is electrically connected to the power converter for causing the voltage to have a phase shift with the input voltage and the inner product of the voltage and the input current being a positive value. The proposed control method is employed for generating a compensation voltage to stabilize the output voltage of the voltage regulator.
