  • Patent number: 6801516
Abstract: A spread-spectrum system having an assignor, a spread-spectrum processor, a call processor, and an information-channel-mode modifier. The assignor assigns each information signal arriving at the spread-spectrum system to a message-code signal. Each of the message-code signals supports a pre-determined information-channel rate. Several information signals have different channel rates, and each information signal is assigned according to the required channel rate. The spread-spectrum processor generates a pilot-code signal, and spread-spectrum processes the information signals with the message-code signals to generate a plurality of spread-spectrum processed-message signals, respectively. The message-code signals are synchronized to the pilot-code signal. The call processor provides a call-type signal corresponding to the information signal rate for the several information signals having several different channel rates.

  • Patent number: 6801260
Abstract: An automatic focusing camera which includes an image sensor is provided having a fixed lens system with a lens having an object side and an image side. The fixed lens system is located in a fixed position relative to the image sensor. A mirror is moveably positioned between the image side of at least one lens and the image sensor. The mirror is located at an angle such that an image observed through the fixed lens system is reflected toward the image sensor. An actuator is connected to the mirror and moves the mirror relative to the lens system to change a distance between the lens system and the image sensor to adjust an object focal length between an object and the object side of the lens.

  • Patent number: 6801517
Abstract: A base station receives access opportunities and packet data over a common packet channel. The common packet channel is defined by a predetermined set of codes and has a plurality of access opportunities. Each access opportunity is defined by a time slot and a signature. A code selection controller selects a currently unused code based on a code associated with a received access opportunity, such that a code, if available, is selected in response to receiving a signature in one of the time slots. The access opportunity defined by the received signature and the one time slot. A transmitter transmits an identifier of the selected available code. The transmitter sends communications encoded with the selected code.

  • Patent number: 6798824
Abstract: A subscriber unit receives a plurality of first spread spectrum signals. Each first spread spectrum signal has a first code. An impulse response of multipath components of each received first spread spectrum signal are analyzed to determine a first received component of that received first spread spectrum signal. In one embodiment, for each received first spread spectrum signal, a second spread spectrum signal having a second chip code time synchronized to the first received component of that received first spread spectrum signal is transmitted. In another embodiment, a code timing difference is determined between the first received components of the received first spread spectrum signals. The code timing difference is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6795417
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) for a wireless time division duplex communication system which uses code division multiple access. The system communicates using communication bunts that have unique channelization codes and corresponding midamble codes where each midamble code is uniquely related to one or more channelization codes. The UE has a midamble detector which detects each midamble code in a received communication burst. A logic block determines the channelization codes related to each detected midamble and a channelization code detector detects channelization codes from among channelization codes determined by the logic block. A multiuser detection device recovers data from the received communication burst based on the detected channelization codes. Where all midamble codes are uniquely related to one channelization code, the channelization code detector is not needed.

  • Patent number: 6795423
Abstract: A method is disclosed for receiving transmitted signals in the presence of CW interference in a communication system that determines the presence of a code in a received signal by comparing with a detector threshold calculations made in accordance with a sample of a received signal. Such systems include but are not limited to those incorporating a Sequential Probability Ratio Test. The method includes obtaining a first input power value of the received signal at a first sample time and obtaining a second input power value of the received signal at a second sample time. The first and second power values are compared in order to provide an input sample comparison and the forgoing steps are repeated in order to provide a plurality of input sample comparisons. The detector threshold is adjusted in accordance with the plurality of sample comparisons. The CW signal can be strongly correlated with a short code used for the acquisition purposes.

  • Patent number: 6790230
Abstract: An anchoring element including a replacement heart valve for the purposes of intraluminal anchoring of the heart valve element to mammalian hearts, the anchoring element having a small enough initial volume prior to its placement that it can be brought to its point of use using a catheter through a blood vessel and can be expanded there to its functionally correct dimensions. The anchoring element is shaped differently from a cylindrical shape such that it is connected to the aorta at the point of use at least in areas in a form-locked manner. This facilitates an especially good seating of the anchoring element containing the replacement heart valve.

  • Patent number: 6791961
Abstract: An order for physical channel reassignment is to be selected in a hybrid time division multiple access/code division multiple access wireless communication system. A fragmentation gauge is determined for each of a set of the physical channels. For each physical channel, the fragmentation gauge represents a fragmentation over time slots of that physical channel with respect to other physical channels of a user service of that physical channel. An order is selected for the set of physical channels for reassignment from a lowest to a highest quality. The order is based on in part each individual channel's fragmentation gauge.

  • Patent number: 6792403
Abstract: Voiceband compression techniques are employed in order to enable an RF telecommunications base station to accommodate data signals of high speed voiceband modems and FAX machines. An Ultra-High Speed Codec supports voiceband modem and FAX transmissions up to 14.4 kb/s and operates using four 16-phase RF slots. Because these codecs transmit information over several RF slots which can be contiguous, the slots within RF communication channels are dynamically allocated. The Dynamic Time slot/Bandwidth Allocation feature detects and monitors the data transmission and forms a data channel from the necessary number of slots.

  • Patent number: 6792032
Abstract: An apparatus and method for data processing particularly useful in combining convolutions of the spreading code, scrambling code and channel response in order to construct a system transmission coefficient matrix, while maintaining the same circuit size and execution time relative to performing each convolution separately. One register for processing real channel response values and a second register for processing imaginary channel response values, are used for moving channel responses through the convolution. In place of multipliers, an optimized minimum number of adders connected in a pyramid configuration are used to perform the necessary multiplication of the codes, for simplicity of construction. By including the channel code transformation from binary representation to complex representation as part of the overall method, unnecessary adders are eliminated from the apparatus.
