Abstract: A method and device for performing media independent handover (MIH) in a wireless communication system. The method includes, and the apparatus is configured to, generate a higher layer handover message, send the higher layer handover message encapsulated in a lower level formatted communication, set a higher layer timing device for a timeout period in connection with the sending of the encapsulated higher layer handover message, and resend the higher layer handover message encapsulated in a lower level formatted communication unless a higher layer acknowledgement is received before expiration of the timeout period.

Abstract: A method for operating a subscriber unit that communicates with a code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless network is provided. At the subscriber unit, synchronization information is encoded with a CDMA code. The CDMA encoded synchronization information is transmitted from the subscriber unit in discrete repeating intervals. The discrete repeating intervals are separated by other discrete repeating intervals during which the subscriber unit does not transmit synchronization information.
Abstract: A fluidized bed apparatus for batch-by-batch or continuous process control is provided that allows the processes in the fluidization region to be influenced as desired, especially in terms of material movement and dwell time. The fluidized bed apparatus is formed from at least two processing regions and the processing regions are connected to each other by overflow channels. The first processing region is provided with a solids inlet and the last processing region is provided with a solids outlet. For influencing the dwell time, the material to be treated is supplied to at least two processing regions one after the other and flows through these regions, wherein the material transport direction is a cross flow relative to the flow of the fluidization means.

Abstract: A transmitter site transmits a plurality of different data signals at a chip rate over a shared spectrum in a code division multiple access communication system. Each transmitted data signal experiences a similar channel response. A combined signal of the transmitted data signals is received. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of the chip rate. The channel response for the combined signal is determined. A spread data vector is determined using the combined signal samples and the estimated channel response. The data of the different data signals is determined using the spread data vector.

Abstract: Methods are provided for the fabrication of abrupt and tunable offset spacers for improved transistor short channel control. The methods include the formation of a gate electrode within a dielectric layer, with only a top portion of the gate electrode exposed. Silicon is added on the top portion of the gate electrode, by selective epitaxial growth, for example. Etching of the dielectric layer is performed with added silicon at the top portion of the gate electrode serving as a silicon mask to prevent etching of the dielectric layer directly underneath the silicon mask, which includes overhangs over the gate electrode sidewalls. The etching creates offset spacers in a production-worthy manner, and can be used to form offset spacers that are asymmetrical in width. By running the methodology in a microloading regime, wider offset spacers may be created on narrower polysilicon gate features, thereby improving Vt roll-off.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for a two semiconductor device package where the semiconductor devices are connected in electrical series. The first device is mounted P-side down on an electrically conductive substrate. Non-active area on the P side is isolated from the electrically conductive substrate. The second device is mounted P-side up at a spaced apart location on the substrate. Opposite sides of each are electrically connected to leads to complete the series connection of the two devices. A method of manufacturing such a package includes providing an electrically conductive lead frame, mounting one device P-side up and flipping the other device and mounting it P-side down on the lead frame with non-active area of the P side isolated from the lead frame, and connecting the other side of each device to separate leads. Isolation of the non-active area of the P side of the device can be through modification of the substrate or lead frame surface by grooves or raised portions.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reliably transmitting data by transmitting a plurality of radio link control (RLC) unacknowledged mode (UM) protocol data units (PDUs) over at least one primary channel and at least one auxiliary channel. If at least one RLC UM PDU is missing from the data transmitted over the primary channel, the missing RLC UM PDU is obtained from the auxiliary channel after a predetermined delay. A service data unit (SDU) is completed by combining PDUs received over the primary channel with at least one missing PDU received over the auxiliary channel. The SDU is sent to an application layer. If the missing PDU cannot be obtained before a predetermined time period expires, the transmitted data is deleted. The RLC UM PDUs may be used for streaming multicast applications.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for blindly equalizing received signals in the time domain based on independent component analysis (ICA). Received signals are demodulated and over-sampled by a rate at least twice the symbol rate to populate a mixing matrix. The received signal samples are cast into the form of a signal separation problem as represented by the multiplication of the mixing matrix with the transmitted symbols such that the unknowns can be solved by ICA. Applying ICA to the received signal samples provides a de-mixing matrix which can be multiplied by the received signal samples to estimate the transmitted symbol sequence. The proposed ICA-based equalization method simultaneously corrects other transmission imperfections, such as DC-offset, carrier phase offset and in-phase and quadrature imbalance, all in the time domain. As an alternative to over-sampling, multiple copies of the received signals are received via a plurality of antennas.

The simplified QAM signal constellation symbol-wise remapping scheme takes advantage of the separate I and Q labeling bits in a QAM signal to reduce the complexity of a receiving node. A method for adaptive switching between bit-wise and symbol-wise constellation remapping for data packet transmissions according to channel coding rate to achieve optimum performance across the range of channel coding rates.

Abstract: A method for adjusting a camshaft of an internal combustion engine during a stop phase and during a subsequent new startup phase of the internal combustion engine.
