  • Patent number: 8327460
Abstract: The present invention allows simple and sensitive detection of microimpurities, microdefects, and corrosion starting points which may be present in a material. A probe microscope has a function to sense ions diffused from a specimen in a liquid. A probe is caused to scan over a predetermined range on a specimen. Then, the probe is fixed to a particular position in a liquid so as to set the distance between the specimen and the probe to a given value at which the microstructure of the specimen surface cannot be observed. Thereafter, one of the current between the probe and a counter electrode and the potential between the probe and a reference electrode is controlled, and the other of the current and potential which varies in accordance with the control is measured. Thus, ions diffused from the specimen are sensed.

  • Patent number: 8320298
Abstract: Parallel demodulators are provided in field units. Forward and reverse channel allocation information may be broadcast to the field units in the same epoch as traffic data but on first and second channels, such as paging and traffic channels. This assures that all field units are able to receive forward and reverse channel allocation information every epoch. By having parallel demodulators in the field unit, switching between the first and second channels is avoided and channel allocation information is not lost.

  • Patent number: 8321542
Abstract: A system and method are provided for allocating wireless channels in a base station processor to messages sent between a subscriber and the base station processor in a wireless network. A latency period is determined corresponding to a return message to be received from a responsive node in response to an outgoing message sent from a sender via the base station processor. A latency manager in the base station processor computes the latency period and stores the latency period in an allocation table. A scheduler schedules a channel to be available at the end of the latency period indicated in the allocation table. At the end of the latency period, the return message is received and the scheduler allocates a channel as defined in the allocation table. The scheduled channel is used to transmit the message to or from the corresponding subscriber.

Abstract: A device for connecting a generator to a belt drive of an internal combustion engine is provided, which includes a belt pulley (1) that is guided so that it can rotate relative to a hub (2) set on a shaft (3). At least one spring element is arranged between the belt pulley (1) and the hub (2) and connects the belt pulley (1) and the hub (2) to each other elastically for transferring rotational motion and here sets a relative rotation between the belt pulley (1) and the hub (2) corresponding to an effective torsional stiffness. The at least one spring element is placed with a defined movement play (s) with respect to the belt pulley (1) and/or the hub (2), in order to allow relative rotation through the movement play (s) in a first region (I) with a low torsional stiffness, while, in a second region (2), a high torsional stiffness can be generated by the at least one spring element.

  • Patent number: 8320492
Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein provides methods and apparatus for determining a singular value decomposition, providing feedback from a client station to a base station, and closed loop operation of a wireless system implementing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). The method may include determining one or more singular vectors using a closed form singular value decomposition. • Patent number: 8320919
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring a channel quality in wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) which are equipped with a subscriber based smart antenna. The WTRUs are equipped with a smart antenna so that the WTRU generates a plurality of directional beams and, optionally, an omni-directional beam. A dwell time is provided in a measurement period to switch a beam from an active beam to a non-active beam. The active beam is one of the plurality of directional beams or, optionally, the omni-directional beam, for communication with one or more serving base station(s). A beam is switched to a non-active beam at the initiation of the dwell time. Signals are received through the switched non-active beam, and samples of the received signals are generated. The samples are stored in a memory. Channel quality is measured using the samples, whereby the dwell time to measure the channel quality is minimized.

  • Patent number: 8320923
Abstract: A method for validating radio resource control (RRC) messages begins by receiving a RRC message at a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) from a radio access network. A determination is made at the WTRU whether the message is valid by applying a predetermined validation rule. The WTRU accepts the message if the message is valid. The WTRU rejects the message if the message is not valid. The message is rejected unless a new transport format combination set (TFCS) is provided, until the WTRU enters a CELL_DCH state, or both.

  • Patent number: 8320827
Abstract: Techniques for performing a handover in a network with a relay node (RN) are disclosed. The RN is a node deployed between an eNodeB (eNB) and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The RN receives data from one of the eNB and the WTRU and forwards it to the other. The RN receives a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) protocol data unit (PDU) from a serving donor evolved Node-B (DeNB) and transmits it to the WTRU. The RN makes a handover decision based on the measurement report received from the WTRU. After making a handover decision, the RN sends a handover request or a control message to the serving DeNB including a first unsuccessfully transmitted PDCP sequence number (SN). The serving DeNB then discards a PDCP PDU with an SN older than the first unsuccessfully transmitted PDCP SN.
