Abstract: A band saw with a complex coordination of a tilting motion and a translational motion between the workpiece and the band saw blade, so that a curved cut is made in the workpiece. The geometric parameters of the cut can be continuously adjusted. This makes it possible to optimize a contact length of the saw blade in the workpiece, which is an important factor in the cutting process. It is thus possible to saw workpieces made of stone and similar materials that are typically difficult to cut. The cut and the contact length of the saw blade can be tailored individually to each workpiece to be sawed. Thus, workpieces of different geometrical dimensions and different material properties, in particular with different material hardnesses, can be processed using the band saw according to the invention without having to undertake significant changes.

Abstract: An apparatus for determining measurements of an object moving along a conveyor path having a support surface is provided. The apparatus includes an object detector located along the conveyor path which is adapted to detect the leading edge of the object and generate a leading edge signal. An object speed detector is located along the conveyor path and is adapted to generate an object speed signal. Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for extracting information from a received signal with minimal loss due to noise. The system comprises of a transformer, for correlating the received signal to a wavelet function and producing wavelet decomposition coefficients, and a threshold circuit, which is responsive to the received signal, for applying predetermined threshold values based on the type of signal. Also included in the system is a filter, coupled to the transformer and threshold circuit, for altering the wavelet decomposition coefficients produced by the transformer using threshold values applied by the threshold circuit to produce altered wavelet coefficients from which the received signal is reconstructed with reduced noise.

Abstract: A method for admission control of control plane signaling requests includes receiving a signaling request. Upon receipt of the signaling connection request, a first determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to common resources. When the first determination is negative, a second determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to dedicated resources. When the second determination is negative, the signaling request is rejected. When the second determination is positive, the request is admitted to dedicated resources. When the first determination is positive, a third determination is performed to determine whether the quality of the signaling request is high or low. If the quality of the request is high, the signaling request is admitted to common resources. When the quality is low, a fourth determination is performed to determine whether to provide admission to dedicated resources.
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method which controls outer loop transmit power for transmission power of an uplink/downlink communication in a spread spectrum time division communication. The system receives a communication from a base station and determines an error rate on the received communication. The system then distinguishes between static and dynamic channels, produces a static adjustment value, and characterizes the dynamic channels to generate a dynamic adjustment value. The target power level is then adjusted by the static and dynamic adjustment values, setting the transmission power level.

Abstract: A continuously adjusted bandwidth phase-locked loop is used by a B-CDMA™ receiver to correct for any deviation, or offset, that may exist between the received radio frequency (RF) carrier signal and the frequency of the first stage LO that converts the received RF carrier signal to an intermediate frequency (IF). The PLL in the receiver includes a filter with an adjustable bandwidth. A wider bandwidth is used during initial acquisition of the received signal. After the PLL has acquired the received carrier signal using the wider bandwidth, the bandwidth of the filter is gradually narrowed to provide a low steady-state error.
