  • Patent number: 6524025
Abstract: A means for linearly connecting two non-circular pipes mainly includes a bar, upper and lower pads put around the bar, and a collar. The bar has two externally threaded ends adapted to screw into internally threaded holes preformed in the non-circular pipes. The upper and lower pads respectively have a cross section the same as that of a bore of the non-circular pipes, and are divided into an inner section and an outer section by a flange, such that the outer sections of said upper and said lower pads can be inserted into the pipes to synchronously rotate along with the pipes. The collar has cross section and outer diameter the same as that of the pipes and is initially put around the inner section of the upper pad, so that the collar can be downward moved to enclose the inner sections of the upper and the lower pads at the same time to confine them and accordingly the two pipes to a vertically aligned position.

  • Patent number: 6525332
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for detecting and compensating the disk tilt of an optical disk and an apparatus using it. The disk tilt causes the coma which degrades the carrier-to-signal ratio of a pickup. To reduce the coma induced by the disk tilt of an optical disk, the pickup of the present invention adapts a two-dimension (2-D) grating to produce a plurality of laser beams for detecting the disk tilt in the radial and tangential direction of the optical disk. In addition, according to the radial and tangential tilts of the disk, an actuation device adjusts a reflection angle of a reflective mean to change the incident angles of the laser beams for the compensation of the coma induced by the disk tilt of the optical disk.

  • Patent number: 6511235
Abstract: The present invention pertains to an integrated surface-emitting optoelectronic module and the method for making the same. The yellow light procedure is performed to define a V-groove width for disposing an optical fiber on a silicon substrate. After dry etching a vertical groove, a dielectric layer is grown on the surface of the silicon substrate to protect the vertical wall, preventing the groove from getting wider due to subsequent wet etching. A 45-degree mirror surface is formed so that an optoelectronic device can be disposed on the mirror surface in the flip chip method. The optoelectronic module employs a complete silicon substrate to assemble a surface-emitting optoelectronic devices and an optical fiber by passive alignment, and therefore can be free from misalignment due to separate assembly.

  • Patent number: 6500575
Abstract: A method for fabricating cylindrical and prismatic rechargeable metal-air batteries is devised. The method includes using micro fans to control air flowing through the batteries via air pathways between the packs of electrodes and separator sheet. The air pathways are created by protrusions printed or molded on plastic spacer film. The air is used by the positive electrode for generating electricity when the metal-air battery is discharged. By conjunction of a second positive electrode and an energy storage device, the micro fans can be actuated as soon as the metal-air battery is demanded by a load. The in-cell air management can not only supply air for reactions but also shut the system to preserve materials when they are not in service.

  • Patent number: 6482682
Abstract: The invention discloses a manufacturing method for improving the reliability of polysilicon thin film transistors to solve electric leaking problem due to the roughness of polysilicon layer surface. In the thin film transistor manufacturing process, a polysilicon layer surface is oxidized to produce a silicon oxide layer which is then removed by an etching solution. This method can planarize bumps on the polysilicon layer generated due to re-crystallization so as to effectively lower the roughness of the polysilicon surface, thus increasing the reliability of thin film transistors.

  • Patent number: 6483864
Abstract: A partial reflective laser output device comprising a partial reflective unit mounted on a laser output device (such as a vertical cavity emitting laser), the partial reflective unit allowing the laser beam emitted from the laser output device to be partially reflected while the rest penetrating through. On one hand, this device decreases the intensity of output laser light so as to comply with the eye safety standard; the reflected light is absorbed by a photodiode (PD) to perform auto power control on the laser output device on the other. In addition, by adjusting the tilting angle of the partial reflective unit or making a curvature thereon, the reflected light can have no destructive interference with the output light and can even be focused onto the PD so that there would be no relative intensity noise problem and the size of the PD can be made smaller to lower the cost.
