  • Patent number: 6006360
Abstract: A head portion has an open front portion through which a face mask extends. The front portion is elastically biased into engagement with the mask to provide a good seal between the front portion and the face mask. A skirt extends from the lower part of the head portion and flares downwardly and outwardly to overlap the collar of a firefighter coat to provide a good seal with the coat and prevent entry of debris between the skirt and the collar. A flap has one end permanently secured to the head portion and the skirt; and the opposite end of the flap is detachably connected to the head portion. A thermal liner is permanently secured to the head portion and skirt and is spaced from both the topmost part of the head portion and the opposite end of the flap.

  • Patent number: 6006758
Abstract: A method and comb device for detection and removal of human head lice, and eventual elimination of the lice infestation, from infested individuals by sequential combing, with no use of pesticides. The comb device has six sides, three of the sides of the comb having sets of differently sized and spaced teeth so that hair can be detangled, first with the thick, widely spaced teeth on side (1), and then with the standard comb teeth on side (2), and then the thin, closely spaced teeth of the lice removal side (3) can be used to comb out lice. The method also be used to inspect for lice, with the capability of detecting lice at an earlier stage in an infestation than possible with the current, traditional inspection method (visual searching for nits or lice eggs.

  • Patent number: 6004383
Abstract: A membrane dryer apparatus for moist air includes a housing (1) that contains a tubular fabric strand bundle (7) of tubular fabric strands (8) made of selective absorption material through which air to be dried flows, water vapor diffusing through the fabric and collecting on its outside. A portion of the dried compressed output air is channeled off near the discharge (12) of the membrane dryer and passed through a scavenging air duct (14) having a throttle (16) and passed around the outside of the fabric strand bundle to scavenge moisture and remove it through discharge openings (17, 18) to the outside air. To limit consumption of scavenging air, an independent shut-off valve (19), working as an airflow sensor, is installed in the output air duct (13), and this shut-off valve (19) opens only when output air is actually extracted by a user.
