  • Patent number: 6030180
Abstract: An apparatus for generating water currents in a swimming pool is provided in which an intake chamber, a discharge channel and a pump impeller are contained within a common housing. The discharge channel is defined within an open-ended discharge tube which extends longitudinally within the cylindrical housing. In use, the pump operates to suck water into the intake chamber around the tube through the front end of the housing. The water flows around the rear end of the discharge tube into the discharge chamber where it is expelled forcibly into the swimming pool through the discharge outlet at the open front end of the discharge tube. A pump stator member with radially extending guide vanes is provided in the discharge tube in front of the impeller to reduce swirling in the discharge channel. A safety guard may be provided over the inlet and the outlet at the front end of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6019455
Abstract: A method of depositing material on a surface (136) is described in which a bulk medium (for example ink 122) in the form of a composition of dispersed insoluble material (for example ink particles) and a support medium is supplied to a cell (120). A movement of the insoluble material within the bulk medium is effected towards a transfer aperture (128) within the cell, thereby concentrating the insoluble material within the bulk medium. Thereafter the insoluble material is removed from the concentration within the bulk medium through the aperture (128) and deposited onto the surface (136).

  • Patent number: 6019435
Abstract: A wheel hub with suspension includes a carrier arm, a swivel axle and a hub body rotatably secured to the swivel axle. A resilient element is positioned between the carrier arm and the swivel axle. A load on the wheel or the hub body will cause the swivel axle to be displaced relative to the carrier arm, whereby the resilient element is deformed and exercises its resilient effect. The wheel hub may be used in many different applications and for many different types of wheels, such as wheels on vehicles, driving wheels, and support wheels.

  • Patent number: 6019672
Abstract: A grinding/polishing cover sheet for placing on a rotatable grinding/polishing disc (3) consists of a thin foil (1), to which a coating (2) of a hard composite material has been applied through a stencil with or without an associated serigraphic membrane. The foil (1) is stiff in its own plane, but flexible perpendicularly thereto. The composite layer may consist of a matrix of artificial resin with one or more substances embedded therein, e.g. particles of one or more metals or ceramic materials, or fibers or particles of synthetic substances or graphite. The foil can be held in position on the grinding/polishing disc (3) by magnetism or by glueing.

  • Patent number: 6016708
Abstract: An strain measuring apparatus for analyzing the stability of a steel structure and a method thereof employs a controller for receiving a variation difference amount from the strain gauge input unit measured using a strain gauge between a strain degree obtained by applying a weight to a steel structure and a strain degree obtained by applying a weight to a steel structure having a hole formed at a predetermined portion and measuring a strain existing in the steel structure based on the variation amount using particular equations. A control command input unit inputs an initialization command for initialing the existing strain measuring apparatus, a radius of the hole formed in the steel structure, a distance between the center of the hole and the center of the strain gauge attached to the steel structurc and an external operating signal including a proceeding command which represents a testing procedure into the controller.

  • Patent number: 6012021
Abstract: A microelectric position sensor wherein an assembly of magnetic field sensitive elements assume first and second states when subjected to a magnetic field having an intensity below or above first or second predetermined values respectively. A magnet is selectively movable relative to the assembly, so that the elements are selectively subjected to the magnetic field. The magnet has focusing tongues for focusing the magnetic field at a region including substantially only one of the elements, so that the magnetic field within the region has an intensity above the second value, and the magnetic field outside the region has an intensity below the first value.

  • Patent number: 6010611
Abstract: This invention provides apparatus and a method for measuring the concentration of alumina in a molten electrolyte in a smelter. A test anode (101) (a mimic of the actual cell anode) supplied from a computer-controlled voltage source (303) with several to about (100) rapid cyclic voltammetry sweeps the voltage at which the anode effect occurs, as sensed by current measurement (305). In order to derive a measurement the voltage is compared within the computer (301) to previous measurements made from a calibration set of alumina samples in known concentrations. Brief rapid cycles and an improved electrode configuration help to provide results from the invention which are reproducible and accurate, and in addition the test electrode has a long life.
