  • Patent number: 5785859
Abstract: The invention relates to an optimized process for conditioning a stream of superheated steam laden with steam-volatile organic components by condensation of the steam phase with recovery of the heat of condensation and at least partial separation of the steam-volatile organic components from the water-based condensate. The process operates with a first heat exchange stage in which the continuously introduced vapor stream is combined with a circulated and cooled liquid stream of condensed vapors. In a following second energy transfer stage, heat is indirectly removed from the liquid stream thus heated. A sidestream is removed from the liquid circuit of the condensed vapors and subjected to separation in a membrane process while the rest of the liquid stream is returned to the first stage.

  • Patent number: 5786436
Abstract: A polymer useful as an inorganic pigment dispersant is provided. The polymer is derived from monomers consisting essentially of an ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer, and an ethylenically unsaturated amide monomer. The amount of said ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer is sufficient to permit said polymer to associate with an inorganic pigment in an aqueous medium in a manner which disperses said inorganic pigment in said aqueous medium to form a stable aqueous dispersion of said inorganic pigment, and the amount of said ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomer is sufficient to reduce the water sensitivity of a dried coating of a latex paint comprised of said stable aqueous dispersion of said inorganic pigment. A process of preparing a polymer useful as an inorganic pigment dispersant and a method of preparing an inorganic pigment dispersion useful in the preparation of latex paints are also provided.

  • Patent number: 5785210
Abstract: A dispenser container for a paste is provided. The dispenser container is formed from a cylinder open at one end for holding the paste, a displaceable tightly fitted follower plate means is arranged at the open end of the cylinder and a dispenser for transporting the paste from the container is arranged to cooperate with the follower plate. A motor and transmission are mounted near the center of the follower plate and has a shaft which extends through the follower plate and has mounted thereon a multiple blade stirrer. The stirrer rotates in the paste below the follower plate. The dispenser removes the paste from the container at a position away from the center of the follower plate in an area below which the multiple blade stirrer rotates. The multiple blade stirrer by rotating in the paste lowers the viscosity and permits the paste to be more easily transported from the container by the dispenser.
