Abstract: Contact of acid or alkaline cleaned aluminum surfaces, particularly cans, with a water based composition containing a combination of (i) alkoxylated phosphate esters, (ii) ions of aluminum, zirconium, iron, tin, and/or cerium, (iii) a metal etching component, and (iv) a combination of alkoxylated alcohol and alkoxylated alkyl phenol emulsifiers, gives the surface after drying lowered surface friction without loss of high quality printability and lacquer adhesion and removes any brown spotting on the cans that may have developed during the cleaning or post-cleaning rinses. The cans after treatment are substantially free from any water breaks when rinsed with water.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a homogeneous, storage-stable detergent for dishwashing machines in the form of fused blocks containing alkali metal hydroxide, alkali metal silicate, water, penta-alkali metal triphosphate, active chlorine donor, and organic complexing agent; comprising preparing a melt of alkali metal silicate, alkali metal hydroxide and water, maintaining the melt at a temperature of about 50.degree. C. to about 75.degree. C., adding to the melt an active chlorine donor and an organic complexing agent, introducing the melt into a flow mixer together with a penta-alkali metal triphosphate and distributing the triphosphate in the melt, pouring the resulting liquid mixture into flexible molds, and allowing the mixture to solidify.

Abstract: The invention relates to aqueous, clear solution-forming, substantially soap free lubricant compositions and to the use of the lubricant compositions according to the invention, especially as lubricants for the transport of glass bottles or poly(ethylene terephthalate) bottles. The substantially neutral aqueous lubricant compositions (pH 6-8) contain alkyl benzenesulfonates, partial phosphate esters with alkoxylated aliphatic alcohols, and aliphatic carboxylic acids, optionally in addition to typical solubilizers, solvents, foam inhibitors and disinfectants.
Abstract: A metal treatment solution comprising an effective amount of a soluble or dispersible compound which is a derivative of a polyphenol. The present invention comprises novel derivatives of polyphenol compounds useful in the treatment of the surface of metal articles. The present invention also encompasses novel surface treatment solutions or dispersions, and methos of using these solutions or dispersions. The compositions of the present invention include amine oxide containing polyphenol compounds and derivatives thereof. The molecular weight of the polyphenols used in derivatives of the present invention have molecular weights of from about 360 to about 30,000 or greater. The resulting derivatives of the present invention typically have a molecular weight of up to about 2,000,000 with molecular weights within the range of about 700 to about 70,000 being preferred.

Abstract: An effective autodeposition bath with low volatile organic compound emissions can be compounded with polymer solids made by polymerizing a mixture of monomers consisting of certain acrylates and other monomers. E.g., a suitable mixture is, in percents by weight, 44% butyl acrylate, 36% acrylonitrile, 10% styrene, 7% methacrylic acid, 2% of the methyl ether of methacrylamide, and 1.5% of hydroxyethyl acrylate.
Abstract: Adhesives containing some bifunctional and some at least trifunctional epoxide compounds, photoinitiators, and acrylates of methacrylates corresponding to general formulaCH.sub.2 =C(R.sup.1)-CO-(OC.sub.m H.sub.2m).sub.n -OR.sup.2in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbon radical containing a cationically cleavable oxacycloalkyl or oxacycloalkenyl group, continue to harden in darkness after their hardening has been photoinitiated, and thus can produce strong bonds between opaque substrates, when the substrates are coated with the adhesives, the adhesive coatings are exposed to light to initiate the hardening, and the coated substrates are pressed together within a short interval before the hardening of the photoinitiated adhesives advances to the gel point.

Abstract: A process and an apparatus are disclosed for the monitoring and treatment of circulating water of open circulation systems, preferably in cooling tower circulation systems, in which at least one partial minor stream is continuously diverted from the main circulating water supply and directed through a compact module in which, in an automatic sequence, the pH value of the partial stream is measured and adjusted by the addition of any necessary acid, the conductivity of the partial stream is measured, preferably inductively, and an elutriation unit is activated to drain excessively conductive water, corrosion inhibitor is added to the partial stream in dependence upon the quantity of fresh water added to the circulating water, organic and/or inorganic biocides can be added and the partial stream is filtered and returned continuously to the main circulating water supply.
Abstract: The invention is a metal treating process which uses a chrome-free deoxidizing bath. The process is useful for cleaning and deoxidizing aluminum substrates followed by conversion coating of the cleaned and deoxidized substrates.
Abstract: Radiation curable compositions containing outstanding reactive diluents have been developed. The diluents are lower alkyl ether acrylates and methacrylates of particular alkoxylated and non-alkoxylated polyols.Examples are mono-methoxy trimethylolpropane diacrylate, mono-methoxy neopentyl glycol monoacrylate and mono-methoxy, ethoxylated neopentyl glycol monoacrylate having an average of about two moles of ethylene oxide.
