Abstract: A terrestrial magnetism responsive device adapted to use a north or south seeking magnet in both north and south headings, the device including a housing having a north or south seeking magnet therein, the magnet being suspended adjacent one pole by a sensitive spring to permit the magnet to be movable horizontally, when released, from a north pointing position or a south pointing position. The method includes the releasing of a north or south seeking magnet in the housing so that it is free to move easterly or westerly on the spring, moving the housing over the areas to be explored, and recording the east/west diversions of the magnet and the exact locations of the diversions.
Abstract: My invention consists of an attachment adapted to be connected to a road grader blade. It has a mounting means in the form of a frame for attachment to the blade, a support carried by said mounting means which in turn carries a curb shoe, the support being capable of being raised or lowered in order to position the blade in the proper horizontal plane. The vertically adjustable support carries a universal joint and the universal joint in turn carries a curb shoe which consists of an element having a relatively flat surface which engages a surface of the curb.
Abstract: An apparatus for fluid pressure testing of engine cylinder heads and similar parts by sealing the fluid circulating jacket ports and subjecting the head to a fluid pressure comprising, a lockable pivoting frame structure on which the head is positioned and secured by clamp bars, individual port closure members secured to the cylinder head by clamps and bolts so as to seal the cylinder head ports and a modified port closure member when connected to a pressurized fluid supply conduit allows a pressurized fluid to be introduced into the fluid circulating jacket.
Abstract: A convertible seat-bed in which a hinged connected seat frame and back frame are supported on a base structure and interconnected by a plurality of articulated control members which coact to control the movement of the seat frame and back frame between a seat forming position in which the seat frame extends generally horizontally and the back frame extends generally in an upright position, and a bed forming position in which the seat frame and the back frame extend horizontally in a generally coplanar relationship, the controlled movements of the back frame being such that the path of movement of the top edge portion of the back frame, during conversion from the seat forming position to the bed forming position and vice versa, is confined to a substantially vertical plane.
Abstract: A traffic controlling and road hazard warning device comprising a resilient frustro-conical or cylindrical road marker and a plurality of informational sign cards that are interchangeably and separably mounted on the upper end of the marker by means of slots and so designed to engage the upper end of the marker thereby securing the cards and preventing their rotation, yet allowing rapid installation and positioning of the cards on the marker.
Abstract: A bread packaging device having a stack of bags supported on a table and into which freshly baked bread or the like is inserted for packaging. The apparatus has means whereby when the stack of bags has been exhausted, the wicket and remnant parts are removed and a new stack of bags installed in its place, this being done automatically and without delay so as not to interfere with the movement of the loaves of bread along the conveyor leading from the oven.
Abstract: A self-drilling screw having an elongated threaded shank with a driving head at one end and a drilling body portion at its other end formed with longitudinally extending flutes located substantially on opposite sides of the body, these flutes defining rectilinear tip and side cutting edges positioned along opposite sides of the body, the tip-cutting edges being forwardly offset and angularly diverging from the ends of a transverse cutting edge, formed on a tip web, to diametral opposite points on the body providing a transverse width at least equal to the root diameter of the threads on the shank, and at which points the tip-cutting edges connect with the side-cutting edges which are angularly inclined towards their outer ends in a rearward direction circumferentially of the body.

Abstract: An instrument holder for use on a disabled hand including a band being adapted to encircle the hand, the band having an instrument holding device adapted to support an instrument so as to extend from the holding device adjacent the forefinger, a latch within the holding device to removably secure an instrument therein, and expansible structure forming a part of the band to permit the band size to be varied according to the size of the hand.
Abstract: A track guided carriage unit for selectively supporting a variety of work performing devices, tools and the like for movement along a predetermined working path, in which a supporting platform has spring loaded wheels that are releasably clamped by a manually operable handle into and out of engagement with opposed surfaces of a guide track, and wherein a motor driven pinion has adjustable meshing relation with a linear rack extending along the track, the pinion being operative to advance the platform at a predetermined rate of guided movement along the work path.

Abstract: An anemometer for measuring the component of air or of a similar fluid speed along its axis of rotation, in which the anemometer has a plurality of generally radially directed, helicoidal airfoils. The airfoil effect is produced by the helicoidal twisting which results in a vacuum being produced on one side thereof according to the direction of rotation. Each of the airfoils has a plurality of helicoidal edges, each edge being formed by the intersections of two or more plane surfaces so as to form airfoils having parallelogram or substantially parallelogram cross-sections. Each airfoil extends outwardly from a rotatable hub and is attached to the hub at its inner end but is spaced in part from the hub by a cutout area, such as a slot across the airfoil.
Abstract: A self watering apparatus for home growing bean sprouts includes a housing divided into an upper compartment and a lower compartment by a horizontally positioned divider plate provided with orifices. An open top sprout container tray is placed within the lower compartment of the housing, the bottom of the sprout containing tray is provided with a drainage opening. A tilting water container is pivotally mounted in the upper compartment of the housing, the tilting water container has an established capacity and collects water from a water supply line at a controlled rate. Each time the volume of water collected in the tilting water container reaches the established capacity, the tilting water container discharges the collected water on the divider plate and drains through the orifices into the open top sprout container tray.
Abstract: The present splitting saw generally comprises an elongated housing one end of which generally constitutes a drive end and the opposite end a driven end for an endless saw blade. The drive end mounts an electric motor connected by gearing to a drive pulley around which the drive end of said saw blade is trained, and the driven end is provided with a takeup pulley over which the opposite end of the pulley is trained.Both the drive and the driven pulleys are provided with radially and uniformly spaced drive pins, and the saw blade is provided with apertures that are spaced to receive the outer ends of said drive pins thereby effecting drive connections between the drive pins and the pulleys and the apertures in the saw blade.
Abstract: An illuminated position indicator for a control shift lever in which the shift lever housing has an associated dial with viewable character indicia thereon representing the respective driving range positions of the shift lever, the dial being associated with a light source providing a general illumination of all the dial indicia, and wherein a lens positioned between the dial and light source provides a concentrated beam for intensified illumination of the indicium corresponding to a selected position of the shift lever, a connection with the shift lever being such as to provide relative movements between the light beam and dial in response to shifting movements of the shift lever. In a modified arrangement, the dial indicium is visually intensified by colored backing member that is moved rectilinearly below the dial in response to selective movements of the shift lever.
Abstract: A high performance portable knockdown boat structure having one or more unique inflatable hull structures in the form of a relatively low pressure envelope which tapers from its mid-length to its opposite ends, and is provided with a sectionalized light weight reinforcing tubular member which can be inserted endwise into a longitudinally extending surface sleeve. The reinforcing member is easily inserted into the sleeve when the envelope is deflated, and upon inflation of the envelope will be retained and anchored against removal. The unique envelope may be readily embodied in boats of the single hull type with or without an outrigger, as well as in boats having more than one hull, and particularly to provide a unique, lightweight, high performance catamaran.
Abstract: A fiberglass mat having high tear resistance which comprises a base or sheet made of chopped glass fibers, bonded together by a bonding agent. Randomly oriented, substantially continuous fiberglass strands may be embedded and bonded in the base, the strands being separated by layers of base material. The mat may also have one or more separate layers of longitudinal substantially continuous fiberglass strands, which may generally either be straight or sinusoidal, bonded into the base material.
Abstract: Welding apparatus in which a self-propelled wheeled carriage releasably supports a welding gun or torch of the hand-held type having a welding tip and control for controlling feed of a welding wire to the welding tip, wherein the carriage is guided along a joint to be welded at a predetermined proper welding speed, the welding gun being adjustably supported on a pivotally mounted cradle which is power-actuated to provide controlled oscillations of the welding gun and associated tip transversely of the joint at a rate of speed proportional to the propelled speed of the carriage, the amplitude of the oscillations being selectively adjustable between zero and a predetermined maximum. Interchangeable driving wheel units provide for use in the welding of planar disposed surfaces and angularly disposed surfaces.
Abstract: A panic exit door locking mechanism adapted particularly for mounting on a narrow stile door frame, and which includes top and bottom bolt mechanisms respectively at the upper and lower ends of the tubular frame at the swinging edge of the door, the locking instrumentalities including a rotatable lever arrangement concealed within the tubular stile, and being connected to the bolt mechanisms by concealed rod structures that are length adjustable for doors of different heights. Actuators for the rotatable lever arrangement comprise a manually operable panic exit actuator device mounted on the inner side of the door and/or a conventional key-controlled rotatable cam lever having a lost motion relation with the rotatable lever arrangement.
Abstract: A self-contained electric power driven bolt actuator unit for installation with a high security door locking mechanism comprising a housing adapted to be mounted on the door in operative association with the lock mechanism, a rotatable actuator shaft being mounted in the housing and connected at one end with a bolt actuating cam, an electric motor connected to drive the actuator shaft through a friction driving connection, a manually operable knob for overriding the actuation of the bolt by the cam independently of the motor, and switching means operable upon predetermined rotation of the actuator shaft in each direction of its rotation to reverse the driving direction of said electric motor and for indicating the operative position of the bolt of the locking mechanism.
