  • Patent number: 5968604
Abstract: A friction element has a base element on which a coating is applied by thermal spraying of a copper alloy. The copper alloy contains 27 to 35 wt % zinc, 4 to 6 wt % aluminum, 2 to 4 wt % nickel, 0.5 to 2 wt % titanium, and copper as the remainder, with random contaminants. The copper alloy is applied onto a base element by thermal spraying, and requires only a finish treatment by stamping to achieve good tribological properties and wear resistance that are comparable to molybdenum coatings. Alternative copper-zinc alloys can have, in particular, manganese, iron, and lead constituents.

  • Patent number: 5957069
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a multi-head multi-needle sewing machine system adapted to change threads by horizontally moving sewing heads, which system provides for space savings and further increase in the number of sewing heads and colors of threads to be employed. For this purpose, needle-bar support frames 6 are each guided in the horizontal movement thereof by one guide rail 31 horizontally extending over the whole length of a sewing machine system 1. A thread take-up positioning piece 63 for maintaining undriven needle thread take-ups 5 at a raised position is secured to place as extending substantially between the centers of adjacent arms 3. In this multi-head multi-needle sewing machine system 1, the movement ranges of the needle-bar support frames 6 of the respective sewing heads partially overlap with each other but there is no fear of interference therebetween because the needle-bar support frames 6 horizontally travel for the same amount in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 5955982
Abstract: To search for an avalanche victim wearing a radio transmitter continually transmitting at a standardized frequency, the method according to the invention comprises: a victim detection phase during which a rescue worker wearing a receiver methodically covers the zone snowed in by the avalanche during which time the receiver detects the moments when the amplitude of the signal received is greater than a lower threshold, a phase of directional search for the victim during which the rescue worker rotates with the receiver while the latter detects the moments when the amplitude of the signal received is at the maximum, and signals these moments to the rescue worker who is then pointed towards the victim, a phase during which the rescue worker advances towards the victim, during which the receiver checks that the amplitude of the signal remains at the maximum, and detects the moments when the amplitude of the signal received exceeds an upper threshold.

  • Patent number: 5843255
Abstract: A connecting pad of a magnetic head element is bonded to a signal conductor of a supporting beam. As a result of the bonding, the magnetic head element is mechanically coupled to the supporting beam and the connecting pad is electrically connected to the signal conductor. Also an auxiliary pad of the magnetic head element is bonded to the signal conductor. This bonding improves the mechanical coupling strength of the magnetic head element to the supporting beam. When the magnetic head element is to be bonded to the supporting beam, one of the pads is bonded to the signal conductor, and thereafter the other pad is bonded to the signal conductor. During the process of the latter bonding, a groove which is previously disposed in the signal conductor blocks heat given for the bonding from being transmitted to the former bonding portion in which bonding has been already completed, thereby preventing the bonding of the former bonding portion from being broken.

  • Patent number: 5833661
Abstract: The device includes a handpiece 1, its handle-shaped portion constituting an under pressure air receptacle 2. The handpiece 1 contains a pneumatic jack 15 fed by means of a pressure reducing valve 11 with constant air under pressure derived from the receptacle 2. The jack 15 pushes against a recall spring a catapult 16 bearing an injection needle 21. The piece 1 also bears a movable syringe 23 containing the liquid and connected to the needle 21 by a flexible pipe 22. A piston 29 moving in the syringe 23 is propelled by the air of a pressure chamber 35 fed from the receptacle 2 through a second pressure reducing valve 30. A squeezing piece 25 brings about a flattening of the pipe 22 by prohibiting the flowing of the liquid and it is pushed back at the outlet end of travel of the jack 15 so as to free the pipe 22 from squeezing.

  • Patent number: 5823679
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for visibly outlining the energy zone to be measured by a radiometer. The method comprises the steps of providing a laser sighting device on the radiometer adapted to emit more than two laser beams against a surface whose temperature is to be measured and positioning said laser beams about the energy zone to outline said energy zone. The apparatus comprises a laser sighting device adapted to emit more than two laser beams against the surface and means to position said laser beams about the energy zone to outline said energy zone. The laser beams may be rotated about the periphery of the energy zone. In another embodiment, a pair of laser beams are projected on opposite sides of the energy zone. The laser beams may be further pulsed on and off in a synchronised manner so as to cause a series of intermittent lines to outline the energy zone. Such an embodiment improves the efficiency of the laser and results in brighter laser beams being projected.
