  • Patent number: 6712471
Abstract: A wide-field-of-view projection display comprises a circularly symmetric lens and an array of light emitters, positioned along the focal circumference of the circularly symmetric lens so that light from each of the light emitters is substantially collimated by the lens in a different direction. A ray-diverting means, such as a slab waveguide or a reflector, ejects the collimated light out of the plane of the lens to the viewer. The planar circularly symmetric lens has no aberration, allowing adjacent views to be seamlessly joined because they can all be diffused by the same angular amount.

  • Patent number: 6708421
Abstract: A locating device for locating a body such as an electrical box behind a wall or ceiling. The device includes a first member positionable in the body and a second member that can be positioned on the outer surface of the wall or ceiling. A magnet positioned in the first member cooperates with a magnet positioned in the second member to maintain the second member in an aligned position with respect to the electrical box. Two magnets can be used to enhance the alignment of the second member with the electrical box. A circular first member can be used for locating circular boxes or lights. A second member having an arm can be used with a circular first member. • Patent number: 6707191
Abstract: A clockspring driven permanent magnet generator comprising a bobbin-mounted coil, inner and outer frame members defining diametrically opposite pole pieces and a structure which cages or essentially surrounds the bobbin and coil combination. A rotor comprising the integral combination of disc and shaft portions carries a two-pole permanent magnet and is, in the assembled structure, located such that the shaft portion extends through the frame structure and the caged coil to place a permanent magnet between the pole pieces which are defined by the caging frame structure. A flat wound clockspring drives the shaft portion relative to the frame structure to induce a short duration voltage in the coil which can be used, by way of example, as an electronic fuse in an explosive device such as a hand grenade.

  • Patent number: 6705537
Abstract: An apparatus imparts movement to a fluid dispersing nozzle with a mechanism for converting rotational movement about an axis of rotation into orbital movement about the axis of rotation, and an elongate member is connectable to the mechanism at one end and is connectable to a fluid nozzle at an opposite end from the mechanism. The orbital member provides orbiting movement of the opposite end in response to rotation of the mechanism about the rotational axis, and provides stationary centered positioning of the opposite end in response to a non-rotating mechanism. A speed multiplier transmission or gearbox can be provided between the motor shaft and drive spindle if desired. A separate mixer is positionable within the member and is moveable longitudinally with respect to the member during use. The mixer includes a valve member connected to one end for movement relative to a valve seat defined by an inner surface of the cone.

  • Patent number: 6698736
Abstract: A clamping and locating fixture includes a hollow body, a pin mountable to the body, a locking arm positionable within the body locatable between two positions and a drive pin moveable within the body to engage the locking arm. A workpiece can be directed to a clamping position by the guide pin. The pin includes an aperture allowing a locking projection of the locking arm to extend therethrough and over a workpiece to clamp the workpiece for a processing operation. The locking projection can be retracted through the aperture while the workpiece is being located or is being removed. The drive pin can be moved within the body to engage a cam follower of the locking arm. The drive pin can be supported during movement by one or more rollers mounted in the body. The drive pin can include a pin body and a pin member moveably associated with one another to selectively define the position of a cam surface.

  • Patent number: 6700088
Abstract: A sealing apparatus for effecting a temporary seal against an elongate object. The object is placed in a chamber(17) and supported between inlet and outlet apertures in the walls of the chamber. A resilient seal (32) is placed at the point where the object passes through one of the apertures. A piston (34) is located on the remote side of the seal being operable to compress the seal towards the relevant aperture thereby deforming the seal laterally into contact with the object to seal the periphery of the object. When the piston is released, the seal reverts to its relaxed condition thereby enabling the object to be moved between the two apertures.

  • Patent number: 6700795
Abstract: The architecture of an automotive wiring, power distribution and accessory control system is described. The system comprises semi-custom two-tier nodes which are distributed in locations around the vehicle to service load devices associated with or found in different regions of the automobile topology. A multiplexed control network interconnects the nodes along with a two-wire bus. Each node consists of a first common board carrying a microcontroller and a basic number of FET driver switches associated with a basic level of accessorization for that region of the vehicle. Each node further comprises a second larger pass through board which supports the first common board in spaced parallel relationship therewith and which carries terminal connectors. The larger pass through board has vacant locations for the addition of FET drivers needed for higher levels of accessorization. These locations are preconnected to the microcontroller but are unused in vehicles with lower levels of accessorization.

  • Patent number: 6694995
Abstract: The specification discloses a rapidly-opening hunting blind comprising a fabric enclosure including an opening and moveable side panels at least partially defined by a resilient framework. The moveable side panels at least partially define a closure for the opening. The hunting blind has a closed condition, wherein free ends of the side panels are releasably connected to at least partially define a tent-like closure for the opening, and an opened condition, wherein the side panels extend radially outwardly and expose the opening. The resilient framework is biased towards the opened condition of the hunting blind such that when, in the closed condition of the hunting blind, the connected free ends of the side panels are released, the side panels tend spontaneously away from each other towards their radially extending configuration.

  • Patent number: 6694908
Abstract: An apparatus and method for changing the volume of the watertight hull of a ship in the light or no cargo condition to achieve the required ballast drafts. At least one trunk extending longitudinally from a first end at a bow of the ship to a second end at a stern of the ship. The first and second ends of the trunk connectible to the water surrounding the ship by operation of an inlet valve and an outlet valve adjacent each end. When in the light condition, or no cargo condition, the valves at each end of the trunk or trunks are moved to an opened position to reduce the volume of the watertight hull in order to achieve the desired ballast draft. While the ship is in motion, sufficient pressure differential exits between the bow and the stern of the ship to exchange the volume of water in the trunks over a period of time. Preferably, the fluid flow through the trunks exchanges the water at least approximately every hour when the ship is moving at normal speed.

  • Patent number: 6691932
Abstract: An applicator dispenses a pressurized fluid to a workpiece to be processed with an elongate housing having a first end and a second end. An enlarged annular flange extends radially from adjacent the first end of the housing and is connectable to a source of pressurized fluid. A tapered cone is formed on the second end to define a reduced diameter relative to the housing to enable streaming of the pressurized fluid to be applied. A separate mixer is positionable within the housing. Preferably, the mixer is moveable longitudinally with respect to the housing during use. The mixer includes a valve member connected to one end for movement relative to a valve seat defined by an inner surface of the cone. The valve member moveable between an opened position and a closed position. A piston is connected to an opposite end of the mixer from the cone to move the mixer longitudinally within the housing. The piston is moveable within a chamber between first and second end limits of movement.
