  • Patent number: 7580462
Abstract: A method comprises determining a plurality of time intervals Tp and Tn within a variable bit rate (VBR) representation of an image sequence. The time intervals Tp are those in which a number of blocks of information per unit time is greater than a baseline value. The time intervals Tn are those in which a number of blocks of information per unit time is less than the baseline value. A second representation of the image sequence is created in which some blocks of information Bp are removed from the time intervals Tp and interlaced with blocks of information Bn in the time intervals Tn to reduce a variation in a number of blocks of information per unit time between the time intervals Tp and Tn.

Abstract: The present invention pertains generally to a monitoring system for a resuscitator which detects operation of the resuscitator and a controller unit for a supply of therapeutic gas to a resuscitator, and more specifically, a flow controller for a supply a therapeutic gas to an automatic resuscitator which is triggered by a single point pressure signal provided by the cycling of the automatic resuscitator from a controlled inhalation phase to a controlled exhalation phase. The monitoring aspect of the system detects single point low pressure signals which are sequentially compared against a time clock. Failure of the resuscitator system itself to generate a low pressure signal against the integrated time clock causes an alarm condition.

  • Patent number: 7577243
Abstract: A data structure, which identifies a party of a telecommunication network and a telecommunication feature unavailable to the party, is stored in a database. After storing the data structure, availability data is inputted. The availability data indicates an availability of the telecommunication feature to a portion of the telecommunication network which serves the party. The data structure and the availability data are processed to determine that the telecommunication feature has become available to the party.

  • Publication number: 20090203270
Abstract: A jet propulsion system includes an inlet receiving a fluid, and a housing defining a discharge nozzle through which fluid is discharged to provide propulsion of a vehicle in a first direction. The jet propulsion system also includes a reverse mechanism movable between a deployed position redirecting fluid from the discharge nozzle toward the first direction and providing propulsion of the vehicle in a second direction substantially opposite the first direction and a non-deployed position allowing fluid to exit the discharge nozzle and provide propulsion of the vehicle in the first direction. The reverse mechanism produces a flow entrainment that enhances forward thrust while the reverse mechanism is in the non-deployed position which results in a net thrust gain over the thrust attributed to the discharge nozzle alone.

  • Patent number: 7567655
Abstract: A system and method for providing easy access to messaging services in a telecommunications network having office switches that are used by different providers of telephone and messaging services. The system uses a supplementary services database to maintain customer records including whether the customer uses messaging services and whether the customer subscribes to a short dialing sequence service for access to the messaging services. The customer is connected to the central office switch, which analyzes the dialing sequences generated by the customer. When the customer attempts access to the messaging services, the customer dials a short dialing or message sequence, such as *XX. The central office switch triggers a query to the supplementary services database for a call forwarding number to the messaging service used by the customer when the selected short dialing sequence is recognized by the switch.

  • Patent number: 7567901
Abstract: Systems and methods for bio-phonetic multi-phrase speaker identity verification are disclosed. Generally, a speaker identity verification engine generates a dynamic phrase including at least one dynamically-generated word. The speaker identity verification engine prompts a user to speak the dynamic phrase and receives a dynamic phrase utterance. The speaker identity verification engine extracts at least one voice characteristic from the dynamic phrase utterance and compares the at least one voice characteristic with a voice profile the generate a score. The speaker identity verification engine then determines whether to accept a speaker identity claim based on the score.

  • Patent number: 7563059
Abstract: It is the object of the present disclosure to provide an improved end mill that can be easily manufactured, reduces cutting forces on the driving tool, limits chatter at high rotation speeds, has better stability, produces smoother cutting surfaces, and has less natural resonating frequencies while in use to permit operation of the end mill over a wider range of operating conditions. The end mill is equipped with a series of sinusoidal cutting edges with a single long pitch arranged regularly or irregularly along the circumferential cutting surface. In another embodiment, the pitch, the cutting angle of the datum line of the sinusoidal cutting edges and the amplitude of the sinusoidal function can be varied.

  • Patent number: 7549577
Abstract: According to one aspect, an air travel agent who reviews photo IDs of prospective travelers is advised by an expert system that directs the agent to give certain travelers more or less (or different) scrutiny, depending on the type of photo ID they present (e.g., depending on the jurisdiction from which their driver's license was issued). The system relies on a database in which historical incidents of fraud associated with different types of identification documents are logged, thereby serving as a resource by which future frauds might be better identified. Events that may signal increases in fraud beyond historical norms for particular types of ID documents, such as reported thefts of security laminates or other consumables used in their production, can also (or alternatively) be tracked in the database, and considered by the expert system. Such techniques allow security personnel to focus their efforts where they will do the most good.

  • Publication number: 20090150349
Abstract: A method for performing a dynamic spatial search for points of interest proximal to a path of travel of a moving user. As the user moves along a path, a search is regularly conducted to provide updated information about points of interest for the user. The method includes automatically detecting a position of the user. One or more attributes of the user's movement and/or of a vicinity around the position of the user are detected. To provide the updated search information a new search region is determined based on the user's position and the one or more detected attributes. The new search region is compared to the previously determined search region to determine an overlap region that the two have in common. Search results from the overlap region are reused as part of point of interest search results for the current search region. New point of interest search results are calculated only for a portion of the new search region outside of the overlap region.

  • Patent number: 7545924
Abstract: A system and method for providing call information query stores modified call information associated with a telephone number within the local databases of a service provider's local network. The modified call information enables a service provider to unilaterally alter how calls are routed and rated. The service switching points (SSPs) located within a same local network are equipped with modified intelligent network or advanced intelligent network software that enables the local SSPs to receive remote call information resulting from a remote query performed by a remote SSP. The local SSPs analyze the remote call information and generate queries to their local databases to obtain modified call information. New services requiring modified call information can then be implemented based upon the modified call information received as a result of the queries.
