Abstract: Parts of a pump head of a scroll pump facilitate an assembly process in which the stationary and orbiting scroll blades of the pump are angularly aligned or synchronized with one another. A metallic bellows of the pump head provides a primary means of synchronizing the stationary and orbiting scroll blades. The assembly process may be carried out using a fixture configured to be mountable to an assemblage including the bellows and the orbiting plate scroll. The fixture has a reference feature, and the orbiting plate scroll or the frame has another reference feature that can be aligned with the reference feature of the fixture, in the circumferential direction of the bellows, during the course of the assembly process.

  • Publication number: 20140303922
Abstract: A method for operating a data processing system to perform compliance testing of an instrument system is disclosed. The instrument system includes an underlying instrument and a computerized data system (CDS) that controls the underlying instrument. The method includes causing data indicative of a measurement made on a test sample by the underlying instrument to be received by the data processing system. The data processing system then performs data reduction computations on the received data while the received data is in a technology neutral format using the data processing system to generate one or more outputs in a technology neutral format. A final report in a technology neutral format is then generated with the one or more outputs. The data processing system can be separate from the CDS or a program that runs under the CDS.

  • Publication number: 20140294638
Abstract: The speed of a cooling fan of a scroll pump is controlled such that fan-generated noise can be kept low. The scroll pump includes a pump head, a pump motor, the fan, a controller and one or more sensors. The pump head includes a plate scroll set in which a tip seal is provided to create a seal between the blade and the opposing plates of the plate scrolls of the set. The speed of the fan is cycled by the controller, and the power draw on the pump motor as a result is checked. These results are used to infer the state of the pump, i.e., to discriminate several different states of the pump from one another, including a state in which a new tip seal is being worn in, and to control the speed of the fan accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8841923
Abstract: A system for measuring a property of a device under test (DUT) includes a stimulus signal generator and a receiver. The stimulus signal generator generates a repetitive stimulus signal under control of a first clock, and provides the stimulus signal to an input port of the DUT. • Patent number: 8843336
Abstract: A method of detecting a trigger event includes receiving an input signal for analysis. The received input signal is used to generate first data corresponding to sequential sets of spectral output data sets, at least some of the spectral output data sets corresponding to sample points in time acquired from the input signal as the input signal changes with time. At least part of the first data is then compared with second data, the second data corresponding to a predetermined sequential set of signature spectral data sets corresponding to a time-varying spectrum associated with a trigger event. A trigger signal is then generated in response to a change in a state of match between the at least part of first and second data.

  • Publication number: 20140271106
Abstract: System and method for testing a pump. The testing of the pump includes determining a Mechanical Power Index (MPI) for the pump. The MPI is determined by operating the pump at operating speed for a minimum operating interval. When the pump is stopped under normal operation by the application, the pump speed is continuously monitored. The time when the pump speed decreases to an initial speed close to the operating speed is read as an initial time. When the pump speed decreases to a final pump speed close to the critical speed, the end time is read and the elapsed time is determined as ?t=end time?initial time. The MPI is calculated to be the initial pump speed minus the final pump speed divided by ?t. The MPI can be used during the lifetime of the pump to determine when the pump is deteriorating.
