Abstract: Improved intraocular irrigating solutions are described. The solutions have enhanced viscosities that reduce the risk of damage to intraocular surgical procedures by reducing the turbulence of the solutions and dampening the movement of tissue fragments and air bubbles. The solutions preferably also have modified surface tensions that more closely resemble the surface tension of the aqueous humor.

Abstract: RNA interference is provided for inhibition of connective tissue growth factor mRNA expression in ocular disorders involving CTGF expression. Ocular disorders involving aberrant CTGF expression include glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, choroidal neovascularization, proliferative vitreoretinopathy and wound healing. Such disorders are treated by administering interfering RNAs of the present invention.
Abstract: The invention is directed to the use of ?-adrenoceptor antagonists for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of disorders of the outer retina.

Abstract: A surgical system having a cassette latching mechanism having two pivoting latching rails. The rails are connected to a rotating latching wheel by spring-loaded latching arms. The latching wheel is connected to a motor by a latching pushbar. The cassette is pressed into the rails which initiates the rotation of the rails, which close onto the cassette. The motor next rotates the latching wheel, producing cam-like movement of the latching arms and thereby further pivoting the latching rails to the fully closed and locked position.
Abstract: Arylaminopropane analogues are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for the lowering and controlling of normal or elevated intraocular pressure as well as a method for the treatment of glaucoma using compositions containing one or more of the compounds of the present invention.
Abstract: A method of conducting traditional two-handed phacoemulsification through two relatively small incisions by using a phacoemulsification tip/sleeve with reduced diameter along with a second irrigation tip, with or without an attached manipulation tool.

Abstract: Compounds with 5HT7 receptor affinity (some of which are novel) useful for lowering IOP, improving blood flow to the optic nerve head and the retina, providing neuroprotection, and treating retinal diseases are disclosed. The Compounds are also useful for treating sleep disorders, depression, and other psychiatric disorders, such as, schizophrenia, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, circadian rhythm disorders, and centrally and peripherally mediated hypertension. Compositions and methods for their use are also disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed are carrageenan-based transitional viscoelastics that will induce little or no IOP spike when left in the eye at the close of surgery thereon. Drug delivery systems for delivering therapeutic agents during post-operative recovery stages are also disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention provides a high throughput assay for human Rho kinase activity in vitro, and methods and kits therefor. A high throughput method of assaying a test compound for human Rho kinase modulating activity is also provided.

Abstract: A system and method for converting measured wavefront data into an ablation profile for correcting visual defects includes providing measured wavefront data on an aberrated eye by a method such as known in the art. The measured wavefront data are correlated with accumulated data on previously treated eyes. Next an adjustment is applied to the measured wavefront data based upon the correlating step. This adjustment is used to form adjusted wavefront data for input to a wavefront data correction algorithm to calculate an ablation profile therefrom. The wavefront data correction algorithm may be modeled as, for example, Zernike polynomials with adjusted coefficients.
Abstract: A surgical console having a panel display mounted on a three-axis gimbel that permits articulation of the panel display via swivel, spin and tilt axes. The articulation mechanism uses two helix cable wraps with a single continuous cable that allows for large rotation of the panel display. The continuous cable simplifies construction and minimizes the electrical signal noise to the panel display.
Abstract: The use of low molecular weight amino alcohols in ophthalmic compositions is described. These compounds have been found to enhance the efficacy of anti-microbial preservatives.
Abstract: A single optic accommodative lens. The lens includes a non-circular ring with radial dimensions that are different in at least two meridians. The radial dimension of vertical meridian of the lens approximates the natural diameter of the capsular bag. The optic of the lens is connected to the ring at the vertical meridian by a pair of haptics.
Abstract: The use of amidoamines to treat or prevent infections attributable to Acanthamoeba and fungi is described. The amidoamines are highly effective against both Acanthamoeba and fungi, and are less toxic to delicate tissues that may become infected with these types of microorganisms (e.g., the cornea).

Abstract: Inhibitors of cytokine synthesis in nonimmune, resident ocular surface cells are useful for treating dry eye disorders and other disorders requiring the wetting of the eye.
Abstract: An improved footswitch is disclosed. The footswitch may have an adjustable length treadle to accommodate different size feet. The footswitch may also have a treadle having a slidable plate that facilitates the actuation of a side switch.
Abstract: A tapered infusion sleeve that has an orifice whose exterior margin is either rounded off, beveled, tapered, curved inclined or otherwise forms an angle with an adjacent exterior of the sleeve that is other than ninety degrees and other than substantially ninety degrees. As a result, the exterior margin is less likely to become caught or ensnared when being passed through an incision opening with a surgical instrument.
