Abstract: RNA interference is provided for inhibition of Rho kinase mRNA expression for treating patients with ocular disorders, particularly for treating intraocular pressure, ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Rho kinase mRNA targets include mRNA for ROCK1 and ROCK2.
Abstract: An ophthalmic pharmaceutical composition useful in the treatment of glaucoma and control of intraocular pressure comprising an effective amount of a selective modulator of ALK5 receptor activity is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method of treating glaucoma and controlling intraocular pressure comprising applying a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising a selective modulator of ALK5 receptor activity to an affected eye of a patient.

Abstract: The present invention provides improved dietary supplements and methods for inhibiting the progression of macular degeneration and promoting healthy vision, while at the same time maintaining general health. The dietary supplements of the invention contain vitamin E and carotenoids in the form of Vitamin A, lutein and/or zeaxanthine. The dietary supplements of the invention further contain Vitamin C, copper and zinc and may also contain such ingredients as rosemary, DHA, and other vitamins and minerals.
Abstract: The present invention provides a combination therapy for the treatment of pathologic ocular disorders, such as age-related macular degeneration and choroidal neovascularization. The combination therapy of the invention includes administration of anecortave acetate and bevacizumab or ranibizumab.

Abstract: A syringe-like device having a chamber in which a pressurizing piston reciprocates. The chamber is connected on one end to a vial containing a drug to be delivered to an eye and on the other end to a needle or cannula for administering the drug to an eye. Pulling proximally backwards on the piston creates a vacuum in the chamber and draws the drug out of the vial. Upon release of the piston, a spring pushes the piston forward, pressurizing the chamber. Delivery of the drug is controlled by a roller pinching off a section of compliant tubing between the chamber and the cannula, with a design similar to a peristaltic pump. A one-way valve prevents the drug from being expelled back into the vial. The flow rate of the drug out of the cannula can be controlled by rotation of the roller.
Abstract: A method for optimizing a prescription for laser-ablation corneal treatment achieves the modification of wavefront-based refractive correction data with the use of user/doctor-input nomograms. Data comprising a wavefront description of a patient eye are received and displayed to a user, who can then make modifications to these treatment data. A modification is calculated based upon the desired correction to yield corrected wavefront description data, which are displayed to the user. A system includes a processor and a device for transmitting a wavefront description of a patient eye to the processor. An input device is adapted to receive a desired correction to the wavefront description data. Software is resident on the processor having code segments for implementing the calculations as described.

Abstract: A two-optic accommodative lens system. The first lens has a negative power and is located posteriorly within the capsular bag and laying against the posterior capsule. The periphery of the first lens contains a pair of generally T-shaped haptics oriented along a vertical meridian of the capsular bag and having a generally rectangular slot within the top portion of the âTâ. The first lens further having a plurality of elongated haptics oriented along a horizontal meridian of the capsular bag. The second lens is located anteriorly to the first lens outside of the capsular bag and is of a positive power. The peripheral edge of the second lens contains a pair of encircling haptics having a notched tab sized and shape to fit within the slots in the haptics on the first lens to lock the second lens onto the first lens. Hinge structures on the encircling haptics allow the second lens to move relative to the first lens along the optical axis of the lens system in reaction to movement of the ciliary muscle.
Abstract: The present invention provides benzodifuran imidazoline derivatives and benzofuran imidazoline derivatives for lowering intraocular pressure and providing ocular neuroprotection.
Abstract: Covalently-bound, hydrophilic copolymer coatings for implants are disclosed. The copolymer coatings comprise a hydrophobic aryl acrylic monomer, a hydrophilic monomer selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylates, n-vinyl pyrrolidone and acrylamides, and a (meth)acrylamide reactive plasticizer.
Abstract: An antenna is formed from one of the structural components of a vehicle with which the antenna is used. A preferred antenna is formed as a portion of a roof side rail of a vehicle.
Abstract: An ergonomic footswitch having a substantially planar tiltable treadle positioned on a base enables up and down or pitch movement of the footswitch around an axis of rotation located on the horizontal rotational axis of an operator's ankle. This arrangement reduces fatigue in the operator's leg and ankle and also permits the operator to vary the speed of an instrument or vary an operational parameter of the instrument via both the up and down motion of the treadle.
Abstract: A dispensing device for fluid medicine includes a housing having an opening leading to an interior and a plastic dropper bottle at least partially disposed in the interior through the opening. The bottle has a container holding fluid medicine to be dispensed and a nozzle with an aperture in fluid communication with the container. The device may include a tilt switch, a closure switch, and other electronics that improve patient compliance.
