Patent number: 12056346Abstract: A user may provide finger press input to a surface such as a touch sensitive input surface. The input surface may be formed from a two-dimensional touch sensor overlapping a display of an electronic device. The electronic device and an associated device such as a finger-mounted device may form a system for gathering the finger press input from the user. A sensor may be used in monitoring when the finger-mounted device and a user's finger in the device approach the input surface of the electronic device. In response to detection of the finger near the input surface, actuators in the finger-mounted device may squeeze the finger inwardly to cause a finger pad on the finger to protrude outwardly towards the input surface, thereby softening impact between the finger and the input surface. The electronic device may also have an array of components to repel the finger-mounted device.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2023Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Paul X. Patent number: 12058720Abstract: Systems and methods for improving the robustness of a DCI triggered beam update in 5G NR are disclosed herein. A g Node B (gNB) may associate a reference signal to a beam pattern (or beam configuration) and prepare Downlink Control Information (DCI) of a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) that includes aperiodic Channel-State Information Reference Signal (AP CSI-RS) information indicating the beam pattern. A user equipment (UE) may decode the DCI, extract the AP CSI-RS information, update the beam pattern of a reference signal based on the AP CSI-RS information, and generate an uplink (UL) feedback message indicating that the PDCCH was successfully decoded by the UE. The gNB may then decode the uplink (UL) feedback message and, in response, update a receive (RX) beam of the gNB to correspond to the beam pattern associated to the reference signal.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2020Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Zhibin Yu, Yushu Zhang

Patent number: 12056321Abstract: Touch electrode architectures for reducing the occurrence of negative pixels in mutual capacitance touch sensor panels that are caused by poorly grounded objects are disclosed. A touch electrode architecture can utilize mutual capacitance unit cells, each of which include a drive electrode, a sense electrode, and one or more ground bars. The one or more ground bars can provide an increased capacitive path to ground for a poorly grounded finger, which can result in a larger reduction in mutual capacitance between the drive and sense electrodes, improving touch detection. In addition, the increased capacitive coupling between the object and ground reduces the amount of charge that couples back onto nearby sense electrodes, which can reduce the negative pixel that can occur at those electrodes and reduce the number of touch detection errors. The one or more ground bars can be formed in the same layer as the drive electrode.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2023Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Karan S.
