  • Patent number: 11675476
Abstract: Techniques for displaying widgets are described. In some examples, while displaying a first plurality of application icons, an electronic device detects a first user input. In response to detecting the first user input, in accordance with a determination that the first user input includes movement in a first direction, the electronic device ceases display of the first plurality of application icons, and displays a second plurality of application icons. In response to detecting the first user input, in accordance with a determination that the first user input includes movement in a second direction, the electronic device modifies display of the first plurality of application icons to change a distance between a first application icon and a second application icon of the first plurality of application icons, and concurrently displays the modified first plurality of application icons and the first set of one or more user interface elements.

  • Patent number: 11678172
Abstract: Techniques for on-device enrollment of a secondary wireless device in an add-on cellular plan include receiving, at the secondary wireless device, cellular plan information for a cellular plan of a primary wireless device associated with the secondary wireless device. Based on the cellular plan information, the secondary wireless device displays an option to add the secondary wireless device to the cellular plan of the primary wireless device. A selection of the option to add the secondary wireless device to the cellular plan of the primary wireless device is received, and a request is transmitted to the primary wireless device for enrollment information for enrolling the secondary wireless device in an add-on plan of the cellular plan. The enrollment information, which includes a list of available add-on plans for the secondary wireless device or information associated with a provider of the cellular plan, is received at the secondary wireless device.

  • Patent number: 11676327
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to ray intersection in the context of motion blur. In some embodiments, a graphics processor includes time-oblivious ray intersect circuitry configured to receive coordinates for a ray and traverse a bounding volume hierarchy (BVH) data structure based on the coordinates to determine whether the ray intersects with one or more bounding regions of a graphics space. In some embodiments, in response to reaching a temporal branch element of the BVH data structure, the ray intersect circuitry initiates a shader program that determines a sub-tree of the BVH data structure for further traversal by the ray intersection circuitry, where the sub-tree corresponds to a portion of a motion-blur interval in which the ray falls. This may provide accurate ray tracing for motion blur while reducing area and power consumption of intersect circuitry, relative to time-aware implementations.

Abstract: A semi-supervised machine learning model can provide for classifying an input data point as associated with a particular target location or a particular action. Each data point comprises one or more sensor values from one or more signals emitted by one or more signal sources located within a physical area. A tagged sample set and an untagged sample set are combined to train the machine learning model. Each tagged sample includes a respective data point and a label representing a respective location/action. Each untagged sample includes a data point but is unlabeled. Once trained, given a current data point, the machine learning model can classify the current data point as associated with a particular location/action, after which a target object (e.g., other device or application to be used) can be predicted.

  • Patent number: 11671835
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide for a satellite device that can be associated with a user account of a minor aged (e.g., child or adolescent) user that does not have a smartphone that can be used as a companion device to the satellite device. The satellite device can be configured to be used as a primary device, without reliance upon a paired smartphone. Certain information can be synchronized with the satellite device via the association with the family account. During initial configuration, a set of cryptographic keys can be generated to associate the account of the satellite device with the set of accounts in the family. The satellite device can then access calendars, media, or other data that is shared with user accounts within a family of user accounts.

  • Patent number: 11669205
Abstract: Various embodiments for detecting and rejecting false, unintended rotations of rotary inputs of electronic devices are disclosed herein. In one example, an electronic device is provided with an optical detector that measures the distance between the electronic device and the wearer's forearm or hand, and when the distance is smaller than a threshold distance, the turns of the rotary input are false, unintended turns. In another example, a crown of a rotary input includes a plurality of capacitive sensors that detects the presence of a wearer's finger, which when absent, the turns of the rotary input are false turns. In another example, deflections or positions of a shaft of the rotary input are measured and if the deflections/positions indicate an upward force on the rotary input (which are likely caused by the wearer's forearm or hand), the turns of the rotary input are false turns. Other embodiments are described herein.

  • Patent number: 11669243
Abstract: Disclosed herein are single-finger gestures for activating a trackpad mode on a touch-sensitive device with no force sensors. An example method includes: displaying a virtual keyboard on a touch-sensitive display with a spacebar key and other keys. Detecting a first extended contact over the virtual keyboard and, in accordance with a determination that the first extended contact is over any of the respective displayed representations of the other keys, interpreting the first extended contact as a keyboard input and activating a corresponding extended keyboard function. The method also includes: detecting a second extended contact over the virtual keyboard. The method further includes: in accordance with a determination that the second extended contact is over a respective displayed representation of the spacebar key, interpreting the second extended contact as a mode-switching input that causes the electronic device to operate at least a portion of the touch-sensitive display as a trackpad.

  • Patent number: 11669199
Abstract: Acoustic touch and/or force sensing system architectures and methods for acoustic touch and/or force sensing can be used to detect a position of an object touching a surface and an amount of force applied to the surface by the object. The position and/or an applied force can be determined using time-of-flight (TOF) techniques, for example. Acoustic touch sensing can utilize transducers (e.g., piezoelectric) to simultaneously transmit ultrasonic waves along a surface and through a thickness of a deformable material. The location of the object and the applied force can be determined based on the amount of time elapsing between the transmission of the waves and receipt of the reflected waves. In some examples, an acoustic touch sensing system can be insensitive to water contact on the device surface, and thus acoustic touch sensing can be used for touch sensing in devices that may become wet or fully submerged in water.
