Patent number: 11659012Abstract: Establishing a communication channel via a relay server with reduced setup time. Upon request by an initiating communication device a relay allocation server may allocate a single relay server for use in a communication session between the initiating communication device and one or more recipient communication devices. The relay server may be selected to perform favorably for the initiating communication device. Messaging for establishment of the communication session may be performed using persistent messaging connections, to avoid connection establishment cost. Messaging may also be performed using address tokens to avoid the cost of discovering global IP addresses. Following establishment of the communication session, the relay server may discover the IP address of one or more recipient communication devices, and may initiate reallocation of those devices to another relay server.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2016Date of Patent: May 23, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Amol V. Patent number: 11656661Abstract: Apparatuses and systems can mitigate the ingress of debris such as small foreign particles or fluids passing into a joint of an electronic device. Some aspects of the systems prevent particles from passing between a flexible cable and a mandrel surface used to limit bending of the cable. Other aspects provide particle relief features including gaps, grooves, or reduced-size sections of the mandrel so that particles can pass into them and thereby cause no damage or pass out of the electronic device. Another aspect provides a protective layer configured to limit pressure applied to the cable by particles or other contaminants. These apparatuses and systems can improve the life and durability of the mandrel and cable, thereby improving the reliability of operating the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2021Date of Patent: May 23, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Karan Bir, Adam T. Patent number: 11659512Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a network to notify user equipment device (UE) whether a network slice the UE has requested is subject to a quota. An AMF of the network may inform the UE if an allowed slice(s) is subject to quota management as part of a registration procedure via a registration accept and/or a UE configuration update command. In addition to providing information regarding whether an S-NSSAI is subject to quota management, the AMF may also share the percent of quota availability to the UE. The UE may implement access control logic based on the received available quota for a particular network slice.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2021Date of Patent: May 23, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Alosious Pradeep Prabhakar, Alistair M McFarlane, Krisztian Kiss, Vijay Venkataraman

Patent number: 11656586Abstract: A system can provide mechanisms for managing devices that lack certain user interfaces by operation of a separate device that includes a user interface. Such user interfaces, such as a display and/or a user input element can be operated on one device (e.g., a user interface device) to manage the operational parameters of a different device (e.g., a managed device). The user interface device can provide input and/or output features when the managed device is brought into a vicinity of the user interface device. The selected operational parameters can then be applied when the managed device is operated independently of the user interface device and/or with another device.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2021Date of Patent: May 23, 2023Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventor: Paul G. Patent number: 11658775Abstract: A method and system to improve the link budget of a wireless system using fast Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) protocol. In one embodiment of the invention, the Medium Access Control (MAC) logic in a base station determines whether the quality of the communication link with a mobile station is bad. When the MAC logic in the base station determines that the quality is bad, the base station uses a fast Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) protocol to indicate to the mobile station to send identical information to the base station in each of a plurality of successive or consecutive communication intervals before processing any received identical information from the mobile station. The fast HARQ protocol reduces the latency of receiving the identical information correctly, as compared with the current HARQ protocol.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2021Date of Patent: May 23, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Aran Bergman
