Abstract: A polymeric peroxide comprising a dilvalent recurring unit having the formula: ##STR1## wherein the recurring unit of Formula I has a 10 hour half-life temperature of at least 80.degree. C. and optionally a divalent recurring unit having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.5, X, X.sup.1, Y, Z, y and z are as defined in the Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments and the polymeric peroxide has a molecular weight of 1,000 to 200,000. Abstract: Polymeric flame retardants comprise halognenated aromatic compounds having acylamino functional groups which are chemically bonded to cyclic imide-containing or imide-forming polymers or copolymers. The polymeric flame retardants are prepared by the reaction of halogenated aromatics containing a reactive hydroazido group with some or all of the anhydride groups of an cyclic alpha, beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride polymer or copolymer to form pendant halogenated-aromatic-substituted imide or amic acid groups. In addition, polymeric flame retardants are used to render thermoplastic resin less flammable under conditions which promote combustion. Novel flame retardant hydrazides are disclosed.
Abstract: A continuous method is provided for preparing alkanesulfonyl halides, particularly chlorides and alkanesulfonic acids in high yields without the formation of undesirable side-products, and without the net production of hydrogen chloride as a by-product. The method involves the continuous electrolysis of an alkanethiol (RSH) or dialkyl disulfide (RSSR') in an aqueous hydrochloric acid-containing solution, continuously removing the electrolyzed product mixture from the electrolysis zone, and recovering the alkanesulfonyl chloride (RSO.sub.2 Cl) or alkanesulfonic acid (RSO.sub.3 H) product from the mixture. The alkyl groups in the dialkyl disulfide (R and R') may be straight or branched chain, substituted or unsubstituted, have 1 to 20 carbon atoms, preferably 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and may be different, but are preferably the same. The aqueous hydrochloric acid-containing medium and any unreacted sulphur compounds may be recycled through the electrolysis chamber.
Abstract: An improvement in the method and apparatus for transversely folding a continuous tubular sleeve. The sleeve is unwound onto a plurality of movable conformators mounted on a rotatable platen which supports the folded sleeve segments. After the desired amount of concentric folds are formed, the platen and conformators are rotated essentially 90.degree. to bring the folded segment into a horizontal plane for extraction. Also disclosed is a mobile device for performing the extraction of the folded sheath segment.
