Abstract: A magnetic media for magnetic data recording having a plurality of magnetic grains protected by thin layers of graphitic carbon. The layers of graphitic carbon are formed in a manner similar to onion skins on an onion and can be constructed as single monatomic layers of carbon. The thin layers of graphitic carbon can be formed as layers of graphene or as fullerenes that either cover or partially encapsulate the magnetic gains. The layers of graphitic carbon provide excellent protection against corrosion and wear and greatly reduce magnetic spacing for improved magnetic performance.

Abstract: For a location-based broadcast messaging service, a broadcast server receives a broadcast request from a business application server. The broadcast request includes a message, at least one identifier for target mobile devices, and an identifier for a location. The broadcast server sends a location query including the identifier for the location to location agents associated with the target mobile devices. In response to receiving the location query, each location agent determines whether the location of the associated mobile device is within or otherwise satisfies a requirement related to the identified location. If the location of the device is within the identified location or satisfies the requirement, the location agent sends a query response to the broadcast server and receives, from the broadcast server, the message included in the broadcast request. The broadcast request can include a time-period identifier, such that the location agent determines the device location during the time-period.

Abstract: A push messaging platform includes a push server system having push engines (PE) for maintaining persistent connections with mobile devices, and push controllers (PC) for maintaining records of mobile devices' connections. The platform provides high scalability by including a load balancer for distributing connection requests received from mobile devices across the PEs, and dispatchers for forwarding each received message to a PC associated with the mobile device identified in the message. The platform provides high availability by using local backup PCs and remote mirror PCs. A global registered process (GRP) on each PC is linked to a process on a backup PC, and the backup process replaces the GRP if the GRP fails. Local registered processes (LRP) on each PC are linked to corresponding processes on a remotely located mirror PC, and the mirror process replaces the LRP if the LRP fails.

Abstract: A metal component (262M, 300M) is designed for use in an EUV lithography apparatus, for example as a spectral purity filter (260) or a heating element (300) in a hydrogen radical generator. An exposed surface of the metal is treated (262P, 300P) to inhibit the formation of an oxide of said metal in an air environment prior to operation. This prevents contamination of optical components by subsequent evaporation of the oxide during operation of the component at elevated temperatures.

Abstract: A method for measuring a glomerular filtration rate in a mammalian kidney comprises a source of reporter and marker fluorescent molecules. The fluorescent molecules are introduced into the blood stream of a mammalian subject. Over a period of time, a measurement of the intensities of the reporter and marker fluorescent molecules is taken. A ratio is calculated to determine the health of the subject's kidney. This method measures volume of plasma distribution based on a fluorescence of a marker molecule relative to a fluorescence of a reporter molecule.

An exemplary device has a main body comprising a pressure chamber, the latter being provided with a pressure piston and a pressure spring, a piston and a piston chamber which draws liquid from a container, and fills the pressure chamber with that liquid as a user operates a trigger in various compression and release strokes. The piston chamber has both an inlet valve and an outlet valve, which serve to prevent backflow. A dome valve can be provided near the outlet channel at the top of the dispensing head, such that once its pressure is exceeded by the liquid, it opens and allows for a spray. Alternatively, in an activated embodiment, the dome valve is locked unless opened by a user.
