Abstract: A single-segment drive scheme for an electronic paper display (EPD) is replaced by a multiplexed drive scheme that reduces the number of driver pins to the number of display segments per digit or alphanumeric character plus one input/output (I/O) line per digit or alphanumeric character. In accordance with the invention, a passive digit selection mechanism enables a multiplex display drive scheme when the EPD material used typically has a stable threshold combined with a small hysteresis. Typically, display operation is better the smaller the hysteresis and the more stable the threshold of the EPD material that is used.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for authorizing a person. The method comprises the step of receiving authentication data from a personal authentication device transmitting said data to a reader associated with a central authorization system. Further, the method comprises the steps of including the received authentication data in a request message and transmitting the request message to the central authorization system, receiving the request message at the central authorization system and retrieving the authentication data from the request message. The method also comprises the steps of performing an authentication process at a central authentication system using said reader authentication data and executing an authorization process at the central authorization system based on the authentication process result.
Abstract: There is set forth herein in one embodiment an image sensor array including a global shutter shared by first and second pixels. The global shutter can include a charge storage area having an associated shield for reducing charge build up on the charge storage area attributable to incident light rays. There is set forth herein in one embodiment an imaging apparatus having one or more configuration. The one or more configuration can include one or more of a configuration wherein a frame read out from an image sensor array has unbinned pixel values, a configuration wherein a frame read out from an image sensor array has binned pixel values corresponding to an M×N, M>=2, N>=2 arrangement of pixel values, and a configuration wherein a frame read out from an image sensor array has binned pixel values corresponding to a 1×N, N>=2 arrangement of pixel values.

Abstract: A method is presented that enables the viewing of network data consumption from an alternative data plan (ADP) by a mobile device in terms of content. The method includes associating a mobile device, an application and content with an ADP and viewing data consumption in terms of content. A counter may be adjusted each time content associated with the ADP is consumed and the counter may be displayed on the mobile device which may also display data consumption in terms of megabytes (MB). The threshold size for the counter to increment may be preset per the rules of the ADP.
Abstract: A network device may store information identifying a coverage area associated with each of one or more cells that are associated with the network device. The network device may receive information identifying a geographic location of a user device. The network device may compare the geographic location of the user device to one or more of the stored coverage areas. The network device may also determine, based on the comparing, that the user device is within a particular coverage area of a particular cell, of the one or more cells. The network device may further send, to the user device, and based on determining that the user device is located within the particular coverage area of the particular cell, an instruction for the user device to connect to the particular cell, where the user device is to attempt to connect to the particular cell in response to the instruction.

Abstract: A method of controlling a ballast in a circuit for a lighting application and connected to a mains power supply is disclosed. The method comprises determining whether a dimmer is present in the circuit; in response to detecting that a dimmer is present, determining a zero-crossing of the power supply and setting a bleeder current through the ballast in dependence on the phase of the power supply within a mains half-cycle; and in response to determining that a dimmer is not present, disabling the bleeder current. A ballast which is controlled by such a method is also disclosed. Additionally, a controller, which may include a digital signal processor, for a ballast and operable according to the above method is disclosed.
Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments relate a system and method for supplying power. The system may include an input/output port, a regulator, and a clamp. The regulator may supply power to the input/output port in a first mode, sink current from the input/output port in a second mode, and be disabled in a third mode. The clamp may be disabled in the first and second modes, and may limit the voltage at the input/output port below a first value in the third mode.
Abstract: A proximity check ensures that a card is physically close to the reader device in order to inhibit relay attacks. The proximity check makes relay attacks more difficult because an additional channel must be intercepted and/or spoofed or relayed. This solution can be used for any kind of short-range communication, including Near Field Communications (NFC).

Abstract: A method for enhancing detail information in rasterized, continuous tone images includes a function that enlarges the contrast of a pixel in a neighborhood of pixels when in that neighborhood one of the pixels has a value that is close to a white color. This is determined by selecting the whitest pixel in the neighborhood. The function shows a gradual transition between the situations in which the whitest pixel is close to the white color and in which the whitest pixel is far from the white color. The method results in a better rendering of fine print when the image is sent to a printing system that reproduces the image on receiving material. For small characters, the legibility is improved by application of this method.
Abstract: An electronic device having a touch sensitive panel has an opened and a closed state, and comprises a sensor circuit, a touch simulation facility and a comparator. The sensor circuit is for generating a touch signal indicative for a position where a touch of the touch sensitive panel is detected. The touch simulation facility is for evoking a touch signal at a position of the touch sensitive panel, and comprises a touch simulation element which in the closed state of the electronic device is arranged opposite the touch sensitive panel. The comparator is for comparing the touch signal with a reference value corresponding to the touch simulation element and for generating a correction signal for adjusting a setting of the sensor circuit for compensation of a difference detected between the position where the touch signal is evoked and the position indicated by the touch signal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to lithographic apparatuses and processes, and more particularly to tools for optimizing illumination sources and masks for use in lithographic apparatuses and processes. According to certain aspects, the present invention enables full chip pattern coverage while lowering the computation cost by intelligently selecting a small set of critical design patterns from the full set of clips to be used in source and mask optimization. Optimization is performed only on these selected patterns to obtain an optimized source. The optimized source is then used to optimize the mask (e.g. using OPC and manufacturability verification) for the full chip, and the process window performance results are compared. If the results are comparable to conventional full-chip SMO, the process ends, otherwise various methods are provided for iteratively converging on the successful result.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for ultrasonic welding of at least two plastic foil layers for manufacturing for example a package.
