Abstract: Polyethers having molecular weights of about 1000 to about 75,000 modified with alpha-olefin oxides having about 12 to about 18 carbon atoms exhibit increased thickening efficiency in aqueous systems. About 1 to about 20 percent by weight based upon the weight of the polyether is required, the proportion of alpha-olefin oxide modifier varying inversely with the molecular weight of the polyether. Modified polyethers, processes for the preparation of thickened aqueous systems, and thickened aqueous compositions are disclosed. The modified polyether thickening agents of the invention are particularly useful for thickening water or water-glycol mixtures which are useful as hydraulic fluids.
Abstract: Fiber-reinforced materials are produced by a process in which a heat-stable thermoplastic aromatic polyether A which contains reactive groups, preferably nitrile groups and/or sulfur bridges and/or arylthio or alkylthio groups, if necessary together with a heat-stable thermoplastic polymer B which does not contain any reactive groups, is applied onto reinforcing fibers, the resulting semi-finished product is molded and, in the molding obtained, the plastic matrix is crosslinked so that the glass transition temperature increases and it becomes virtually insoluble.

Abstract: A compound useful for dyeing acid-modified fibers, having the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.5 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each methyl, ethyl, .beta.-hydroxyethyl, .beta.-hydroxypropyl or benzyl; A.sup.- is an anion; m is 2 or 3 and n is 0.1 to 1 based on statistical averages.
Abstract: In the production of resist images by application of a radiation-sensitive positive-working resist layer based on degradable polymers onto a substrate, imagewise exposure of the resist layer to actinic radiation and removal of the irradiated parts of the layer with development of the resist image, the radiation-sensitive resist layer used is composed of poly(diacetylenes), in particular soluble ones. Preferably, the radiation-sensitive resist layer based on the poly(diacetylenes) contains sensitizers which can be activated by actinic radiation and which, after being activated, induce or accelerate molecular degradation of the poly(diacetylenes). Dry film resists comprise a temporary dimensionally stable base and a radiation-sensitive resist layer which is applied on the base, can be degraded by exposure to actinic radiation and is based on poly(diacetylenes), in particular soluble ones, with or without a cover sheet on top of the said resist layer.

Abstract: Improved diarylide yellow pigment compositions having high color strength. The compositions are manufactured by modifying tetrazotized 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine with a solution of about 3 to about 5 mole percent of a first acetoacetarylide, followed by coupling into a second acetoacetarylide such as acetoacetanilide.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of cellular or noncellular plastics, preferably polyurethane coatings, by reacting at least two components with one another, preferably organic polyisocyanates and polyhydroxyl compounds, by feeding the components into a mixing zone separately, and mixing them together and then discharging the reaction mixture from the mixing zone, while adding air heated to a temperature of 100.degree. to 1200.degree. C. to the reaction mixture as it emerges from the mixing zone.
Abstract: The invention relates to copolymers as ingredients for detergents and cleaning agents, which contain monoethylenically unsaturated mono- and dicarboxylic acids, their hydroxyalkyl esters and, if appropriate, other ethylenically unsaturated compounds as monomer units, and are distinguished by a particular calicum-binding and magnesium-binding capacity, detergents and cleaning agents containing these copolymers, and their use in detergents and cleaning agents, in particular as sequestering agents and anti-redeposition agents.

Abstract: Insoluble polymer powders which are only slightly swellable and are based on N-vinylpyrrolidone are prepared by polymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone or a mixture of this with copolymerizable monomers and from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the total amount of monomers, of a crosslinking agent in a powder bed in the presence of a heat-transfer medium, which is inert to the reactants, and in the absence of oxygen and polymerization initiators, at from 90.degree. to 220.degree. C., while maintaining the powder state, circulating the reaction mass and evaporating the heat-transfer medium from the polymerization zone. The resulting insoluble polymers which are only slightly swellable are used as adsorbents or formulation assistants for fertilizers and crop protection agents.

Abstract: A resist image is produced from a high-resolution, radiation-sensitive resist material by a process in which paraffin is applied as a resist material in a thin layer onto a substrate and irradiated in a predetermined pattern, for example by means of an electron beam, with crosslinking, and the non-irradiated, non-crosslinked parts of the resist layer are then removed. Particularly advantageously, the resist layer consisting of the paraffin is applied onto the substrate by vapor deposition and, after imagewise irradiation, the non-irradiated parts of the resist layer are removed by evaporation in order to develop the resist image.
Abstract: Isoprene is recovered from a C.sub.5 -hydrocarbon mixture containing isoprene, penta-1,3-diene and cyclopentadiene by separating the said mixture by liquid-liquid extraction or extractive distillation with the aid of a selective solvent, in combination with a distillation upstream or downstream from the liquid-liquid extraction or extractive distillation, by a method in which a stream containing penta-1,3-diene and cyclopentadiene is separated off in the upstream or downstream distillation and is catalytically hydrogenated, and the hydrogenated stream is fed to the upper part of the liquid-liquid extraction or extractive distillation.
