Abstract: A thermoplastic molding material comprises copolymers I and II.Copolymer I is a high-impact (graft) copolymer which is derived from a monovinyl-aromatic monomer and a polymer or copolymer predominantly containing polymerized 1,3-diene units, and is present in a proportion of 0.1-1.0% by weight, based on the molding material.Copolymer II is a block copolymer with star-shaped branching, ie. a radial block copolymer, having an average of more than two branches per molecule. It is substantially derived from 55-80% by weight of a monovinyl-aromatic monomer and 20-45% by weight of a 1,3-diene monomer. The molding material may contain conventional assistants and is used for the production of blown film.

Abstract: Concentrated, stable water-in-oil emulsions of water-soluble or water-swellable polymers are prepared by polymerization of one or more water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomers in a water-in-oil emulsion and removal of water from the water-in-oil polymer emulsion by azeotropic distillation, by a method in which superheated vapor of an inert organic solvent which is immiscible with water is passed into the water-in-oil polymer emulsion. Using the process, it is also possible to concentrate emulsions which tend to coagulate or water-in-oil emulsions which are sensitive to shearing, without the polymers losing their effectiveness.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of unsaturated alcohols and/or esters thereof by reacting conjugated dienes with water and/or aqueous carboxylic acid solutions in the presence of a macroporous acid ion exchanger and suitable solvents. The diene has the general formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are hydrogen or a methyl group and R.sup.2 also can represent an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 2 to 6 carbon atoms which may contain a double bond which is not in a conjugated position relative to the double bonds of the diene, and preferably R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 each represent groups CH.sub.3 or CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.3. Said diene is reacted in a homogeneous or quasi-homogeneous phase in the presence of said macroporous acid ion exchanger.
Abstract: Polyether-ketones containing the structural unit ##STR1## have a completely linear structure, and are heat-stable and free from crosslinking reactions during processing at from 390.degree. to 420.degree. C.They are prepared by Friedel-Crafts acylation of terephthaloyl chloride or terephthaloyl fluoride with diphenyl ether in hydrogen fluoride as a solvent and with boron trifluoride as a catalyst, the polycondensation reaction being carried out by a method in which the reaction mixture is a homogeneous solution.
Abstract: Novel pigmentary forms of isoindoline pigments which contain(a) a pigmentary form of the compound of the formula (I) ##STR1## and (b) from 2 to 50% by weight, based on (I), of one or more isoindoline pigments of the formula (II) ##STR2## where R is --CN, --CONH.sub.2, N--C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylcarbamyl, N-phenylcarbamyl, 2-quinazolonyl, 2-quinoxazolonyl and 2-benzimidazolyl, and the phenyl radical in the phenylcarbamyl and/or the heterocyclic radicals stated for R are unsubstituted or substituted, are obtained by heating a mixture of the finely divided pigments (I) and (II) in an aqueous medium.Advantageously, the mixture is prepared directly by synthesizing (I) in the presence of finely divided (II) in water. The novel pigmentary forms are transparent pigments which have high color strength, and whose transparency and color strength are substantially superior to those of very similar pigments.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a stable aqeuous ketone resin or ketone/aldehyde resin dispersions and a process for the production of surface coating binders. For this purpose, a melt or a highly concentrated solution of the ketone resin or ketone/aldehyde resin is dispersed in water in the presence of an organic protective colloid. These aqueous resin dispersions can be used, in combination with other film formers, as surface coating binders.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a mixed-phase pigment based on iron oxide and chromium oxide by heating a mixture of the oxides, hydroxides or oxide hydroxides of iron and of chromium at from 600.degree. to 1100.degree. C. and then comminuting the product and working it up in a conventional manner. The essential feature of the invention is that a mixture of transparent .alpha.-iron oxide having an orthorhombic bipyramidal crystal structure and a chromium(III) hydroxide, which has been applied onto the transparent iron oxide by precipitation with an alkali, preferably sodium carbonate, is heated. The pigments according to the invention give deep colorations and are readily dispersible.

Abstract: Diarylide yellow pigment compositions comprising the reaction product of tetrazotized 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine coupled into an acetoacetarylide, and, a ketimine formed by the reaction of a primary amine and an acetoacetarylide. The ketimine-containing diarylide yellow pigment compositions have improved color strength, improved transparency and contain essentially no free primary amine. Printing inks manufactured with the diarylide yellow pigment compositions of this invention have increased color strength, increased transparency, decreased degradation of publication gravure ink vehicles and decreased acidic fountain solution emulsification in offset ink printing processes.
Abstract: For the production of printing plates, in particular lithographic printing plates by exposing a photopolymerizable recording material imagewise to actinic light and then effecting development with an aqueous alkaline developer, it is proposed to use photopolymerizable recording materials possessing a photopolymerizable copying layer (L) applied on a dimensionally stable base, where, in addition to containing ethylenically unsaturated photopolymerizable low molecular weight compounds, one or more photoinitiators, dyes and/or pigments, and, if required, further additives and/or assistants, the said copying layer (L) also contains, as a binder, one or more oligomeric and/or relatively high molecular weight copolymers which are soluble or dispersible in aqueous alkaline media and are based on cyclic dienes, in particular unsubstituted or substituted cyclopentadiene or unsubstituted or substituted di- or tricyclopentadiene.
