Abstract: Linear polypropylene ether glycols of high molecular weight are made by reacting a linear polypropylene ether glycol of lower molecular weight first with an alkaline agent such as sodium hydroxide or other suitable base to form an alcoholate, and then coupling the alcoholate with a suitable difunctional coupling agent, such as the benzene-sulfonic acid diester of ethylene glycol or with some other suitable arylsulfonic acid diester of a C.sub.2 to C.sub.6 alcohol, thereby obtaining a 100 percent linear polypropylene ether glycol of a desirably higher molecular weight. Materials so produced find use in an aqueous medium as defoaming agents, thickeners, or emulsifiers, and use as protective colloids to improve the low-temperature stability of polyurethane and other latices.
Abstract: The graft polyester compositions of the invention are especially useful as size compositions since they can be applied to the yarn from a solventless mixture and require only at least one of the application of heat or irradiation to graft polymerize the size in situ on the yarn. The graft polyester of the invention comprises the reaction product of (1) an unsaturated polyester which is the reaction product of at least one polycarboxylic acid reactant, preferably a dicarboxylic acid reactant and at least one polyhydric alcohol reactant, preferably a diol, wherein a minor effective proportion of at least one of said reactants is .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated with (2) at least one monovinyl monomer reactant comprising at least one acidic monovinyl monomer containing at least one carboxyl group or a mixture of said vinyl monomer with any monovinyl monomer.
Abstract: Apparatus for accurately positioning a transducer head relative to parallel tracks on a recording medium such as magnetic tape. The apparatus includes a frame having a guide to direct the tape along a horizontal path past the transducer head, and a cam mounted for rotation on the frame. The cam has a cylindrically shaped upstanding portion in which a series of graduated planar steps is formed, each such step corresponding to a separate track on the tape. The apparatus further includes a lever having one end pivotally mounted to the frame and a remote end positioned to bear on one of the steps of the cam, and a platform assembly which carries the transducer head and which bears on a mid-portion of the lever. Rotation of the cam raises or lowers the remote end of the lever by a controllable number of steps, and thereby raises or lowers the transducer head by a corresponding but lesser amount, to align it with a selected track on the tape.

C. The stabilized chromium dioxide magnetic pigments may be used for the manufacture of magnetic recording media exhibiting improved stability of the magnetic properties under adverse climatic conditions.
