Abstract: The present invention is directed to improved speech intelligibility in telephones with multiple microphones. Such a telephone includes a first microphone, a second microphone, a voice activity detector (VAD), a receiver module, and a signal processor. The first microphone outputs a first audio signal, which comprises a voice component when a near-end user talks and a background noise component. The second microphone outputs a second audio signal. The VAD generates a voice activity signal responsive to a ratio between the first audio signal and the second audio signal. The voice activity signal identifies time intervals in which the voice component of the near-end user is present in the first audio signal. The receiver module receives a third audio signal, which comprises a voice component of a far-end user. The signal processor modifies the third audio signal responsive to the voice activity signal.
Abstract: A quad SRAM based one time programmable memory cell is provided. Prior to programming, the memory cell operates as an SRAM memory cell. After programming, the memory cell operates as a one-time programmable non-volatile memory cell. The memory cell includes a storage element coupled at a first side to a first upper fuse and a first lower fuse and coupled at a second side to a second upper fuse and a second lower fuse. When the first upper fuse and second lower fuse are programmed, the storage element outputs a first value. When the second upper fuse and first lower fuse are programmed, the storage element outputs a second value. After programming the upper fuse acts as a pull-up fuse and the lower fuse acts as a pull-down fuse hold the state of the cell.

Abstract: A reduced-complexity maximum-likelihood detector is disclosed that provides a high degree of signal detection accuracy while maintaining high processing speeds. The detector processes the received symbols to obtain initial estimates of the transmitted symbols and then uses the initial estimates to generate a plurality of reduced search sets. The reduced search sets are then used to generate decisions for detecting the transmitted symbols.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed, in an interactive broadband set-top box receiving broadband signals from a headend, to facilitate communications with an installed card within the set-top box using a single IC chip that processes the broadband signals. The single IC chip is configured to a PCMCIA PC-card mode such that PC card signals are multiplexed to certain I/O pins of the single IC chip. In the PCMCIA PC-card mode, the single IC chip attempts to detect the presence of and identify an installed card in the set-top box. If an installed card is present and is identified as a POD module, then the single IC chip is reconfigured from the PCMCIA PC-card mode to a POD mode such that POD-compatible signals are multiplexed to certain existing I/O pins of the single IC chip when operating in the POD mode.

Abstract: A Multi-tone transmission system processes input data through a plurality of intermediate processing stages 12, 14, 16 and corresponding stages of intermediate data 18,20. A symbol including a number of tones is obtained therefrom by an inverse Fourier transform 24 and stored in a buffer 158. The peak amplitude that the symbol would contain after the subsequent processing in the analogue front end 146 is modelled and compared with a threshold. If the modelled peak amplitude in the symbol exceeds the threshold, the symbol stored in the buffer 158 is regenerated. The symbols stored in the buffer are output through the analogue front end 146.
Abstract: The present invention finds the optimum organization of compiled code within an application to ensure maximal cache efficiency. A configuration file specifies predefined cache, optimization, and application parameters. The cache parameters include a cache size, cache line size, set associativity, address-to-cache-line mapping algorithm, and set replacement algorithm. The optimization parameters specify the minimum acceptable efficiency level. The application parameters include a list of object modules and functions within those modules. All possible orderings of the modules are stepped through to determine where the specified functions fall within the cache given the location of the function within the module. The function locations in each permutation of the orderings are analyzed to find a solution that matches or beats the optimization parameters.
