  • Patent number: 7538610
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for enhancement of power amplifier (PA) efficiency through controlled variation of gain in a power amplifier driver are presented. Aspects of the system may comprise an envelope detector that enables detection of an amplitude of an analog input signal. The envelope detector may enable computation of a first gain value based on the detection. A second gain value may be computed based on the first gain value. A PA may enable generation of an analog output signal based on the analog input signal, the first gain value and the second gain value.

  • Patent number: 7539918
Abstract: A K-bit information signal represented by a polynomial U(x) having a degree K?1 is received. The information signal is transformed to form a transformed information signal using a first transform represented by a polynomial G1(x) having a degree P. The transformed information signal is represented by a polynomial T(x) having a degree K+P?1. T(x) equals U(x)G1(x). An initial cyclic code represented by a polynomial R1(x) is generated for the transformed information signal using a second transform represented by a polynomial G2(x), where G2(x) has high-order leading-zero terms. R1(x) equals the remainder obtained by dividing T(x) by G2(x). The initial cyclic code is transformed to form a final cyclic code represented by a polynomial R2(x) using the first transform. R2(x) equals R1(x)/G1(x).

  • Patent number: 7539274
Abstract: A signal weighting and combining method implemented within a receiver having a plurality of receive antennas is disclosed herein. Each receive antenna is disposed to produce a received RF signal in response to a transmitted RF signal received through a channel. The method includes weighting the plurality of received RF signals produced by the antennas in accordance with a corresponding plurality of RF weighting values selected to maximize an output signal-to-noise ratio of the receiver averaged over the channel, thereby forming a plurality of weighted RF signals. The method further includes combining ones of the plurality of weighted RF signals in order to form one or more combined RF signals. A similar splitting and weighting method capable of being implemented within a transmitter having a plurality of transmit antennas is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7538962
Abstract: A media event timer includes a counter module for generating a sequence of counts based on a clock signal of a disk drive unit. A counter reset module sets the counter module to a reset count in response to a servo address mark detection signal. A detector module detects that a servo address mark has been missed and sets the counter module to a restart count when the servo address mark has been missed. A trigger module triggers a first media event when a first media event count compares favorably to a count of the sequence of counts.

  • Patent number: 7538741
Abstract: A Radio Frequency (RF) structure services an antenna having a characteristic impedance and includes a differential Power Amplifier (PA), a differential Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), and a balun transformer. The differential PA has a differential PA output with a PA differential output impedance. The differential LNA has a differential LNA input with an LNA differential input impedance. The balun transformer has a singled ended winding coupled to the antenna, a differential winding having a first pair of tap connections coupled to the differential PA output and a second pair of tap connections coupled to the differential LNA input, and a turns ratio of the single ended winding and the differential winding. The turns ratio and the first pair of tap connections impedance match the PA differential output impedance to the characteristic impedance of the antenna. The turns ratio and the second pair of tap connections impedance match the LNA differential input impedance to the characteristic impedance of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 7537167
Abstract: Modular, portable data collection terminals are disclosed for use in mixed wireless and hard-wired RF communication networks, wherein various radio transmitter modules and associated antennas may be selectively added to a base terminal unit to solve networking problems associated with specific types of business environments. Modularity exists in both the hardware (splitting data collection and processing control circuitry from radio transceiver control circuitry) and software (splitting transceiver-specific, lower level communication protocol from generic, higher level communication protocol). The control circuitry, including associated microprocessors devices, interact to selectively activate communication circuits to perform necessary communication or data processing functions and enter and remain in a power-saving dormant state during other times. To support such dormant or “sleeping” states, a series of communication protocols provide for channel access to the communication network.

  • Patent number: 7539501
Abstract: A method for receiving a frame in a high data throughput wireless local area network begins by receiving a preamble of the frame via a channel in accordance with a default receiver filter mask. The processing continues by validating the preamble. The processing continues by, when the preamble is validated, interpreting the preamble to determine a high data throughput channel configuration. The processing continues by reconfiguring the default receiver filter mask in accordance with the high data throughput channel configuration to produce a reconfigured receiver filter mask. The processing continues by receiving a data segment of the frame in accordance with the reconfigured receiver filter mask.

  • Patent number: 7539885
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for performing adaptive run-time power management in a system employing a CPU and an operating system. A CPU cycle tracker (CCT) module monitors critical CPU signals and generates CPU performance data based on the critical CPU signals. An adaptive CPU throttler (THR) module uses the CPU performance data, along with a CPU percent idle value fed back from the operating system, to generate a CPU throttle control signal during predefined run-time segments of the CPU run time. The CPU throttle control signal links back to the CPU and adaptively adjusts CPU throttling and, therefore, power usage of the CPU during each of the run-time segments.

  • Publication number: 20090129483
Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding and displaying a bitstream, such as, for example, Motorola/GI HITS bitstream, is provided. The method avoids displaying artifacts caused by displaying incompletely decoded pictures after channel acquisition. After the channel acquisition, an entry picture, a P-picture with the refreshed I-slices at the top of the picture, is first displayed with all pixels below the refreshed I-slices zeroed (blacked) out. Then the subsequent P-pictures are displayed with all pixels below their respective refreshed I-slices zeroed out. Once a P-picture has been completely decoded, normal decoding process is started.

  • Publication number: 20090132186
Abstract: A charge stored in a battery is estimated by multiplying estimated charge currents supplied during charge phases and estimated discharge currents discharged during operational modes by the respective amounts of time of charging and discharge. The state of charge of the battery is calculated from the estimated stored charge. Furthermore, parameters of the battery may be measured to be used to adjust the estimated state of charge of the battery. In a first case, the estimated stored charge may be adjusted to a charge value corresponding to the detected completion of a constant current charge phase. In a second case, the estimated stored charge may be adjusted to a charge value corresponding to the detected completion of a constant voltage charge phase. In a third case, the estimated stored charge may be adjusted to a charge value corresponding to a detected predetermined discharge level of the battery.

  • Publication number: 20090128097
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for determining battery state of health are provided. A battery that is substantially uncharged is charged with a substantially constant charge current. A time duration of the charging of the battery with the substantially constant charge current is determined. A state of health of the battery is estimated based upon the determined time duration and the constant charge current. The state of health of the battery may be calculated by multiplying the determined time duration with a value of the constant charge current to determine a total accumulated charge, and applying a predetermined factor to the accumulated charge to determine the state of health. The predetermined factor is a fixed percentage of the total charge capacity of the battery that corresponds to the battery type.

  • Publication number: 20090129484
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed to map a sequence of data to Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) constellation symbols. The method and apparatus encodes only a portion of the sequence of data and leaves a remaining portion of the sequence of data unencoded. The encoded portion of the sequence of data and the remaining unencoded portion of the sequence of data are then mapped into modulation symbols of the QAM constellation. The encoded portion of the sequence of data selects subsets of the QAM constellation, and the remaining unencoded portion of the sequence of data determines a specific modulation symbol within each subset of the QAM constellation.
