  • Patent number: 8977208
Abstract: A transmitter front-end for wireless chip-to-chip communication, and for other, longer-range (e.g., several meters or several tens of meters) device-to-device communication is disclosed. The transmitter front-end can include a plurality of reflector power amplifiers implemented on an IC chip and an on-chip or on-package antenna for wireless transmitting a signal to another IC chip or device. The plurality of reflector power amplifiers can reflect the radiation of the on-chip or on-package antenna in a particular pattern such that the effective radiation pattern is reinforced in a desired direction and suppressed in an undesired direction. This helps to reduce the required output power of the transmitter front-end and mitigate interference with other potential wireless chip-to-chip or longer-range communications.

  • Publication number: 20150063484
Abstract: A communication device includes a communication interface and a processor. In one example, the processor generates an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol that includes information modulated within sub-carriers and then interleaves the sub-carriers of the OFDM symbol to generate an interleaved OFDM symbol. This interleaving of the sub-carriers operates to write the plurality of sub-carriers to rows of a two dimensional (2D) array and read the plurality of sub-carriers from columns of the 2D array. This interleaving also operates to read a column of the columns using a bit-reversed address of the column when the bit-reversed address is less than a number of the columns and using the address of the column when the bit-reversed address is greater than or equal to the number of the columns. The processor transmits, via the communication interface, the interleaved OFDM symbol to another communication device.

  • Publication number: 20150063498
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for efficient tree-based detection of multi-carrier modulated signals, such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. In an embodiment, a plurality of signals occupying respective tones are received and processed to determine an order, based on a tone quality metric, for the plurality of signals. The plurality of signals are then dispatched to a pool of tree detectors in accordance with the order. In an embodiment, the order ensures that signals occupying higher quality tones, and requiring shorter detection times, are dispatched first to the pool of tree detectors. In another embodiment, a maximum runtime of busy tree detectors of the pool is updated based signal on actual detection times to exploit the time slack of early terminating detectors.

  • Publication number: 20150066438
Abstract: A sensor interface includes on-chip relaxation oscillator circuit and a PLL that operate cooperatively to generate a highly accurate clock signal on-chip using low-power components. A photodiode generates a current signal based on an optical signal that is representative of a sensor signal. An ADC that operates based on the highly accurate clock signal generates a digital signal based on the current signal generated by the photodiode, and a processor processed the digital signal to estimate sensor data within the sensor signal. Examples of characteristics that may be sensed can include environmental characteristics (e.g., temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc.) and/or biomedical characteristics (e.g., body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, etc.). In desired, an amplifier processes the photodiode-provided current signal before it is provided to the ADC. Also, one or more CDACs that generate feedback currents may be used to reduce noise sensitivity of the sensor interface.

  • Publication number: 20150066517
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are provided for resolution-independent dither sample insertion for audio transmissions. Audio transmitters transmit audio data streams to audio receivers. Data inactivity in the data stream triggers the audio receivers to enter power-saving/sleep modes in which synchronization with the audio transmitters is lost thus requiring time consuming resynchronization. Inactivity such as silence or zero-value data is detected in a data stream. Upon detection, a dither sample is inserted into the data stream and transmitted to the audio receiver to prevent the loss of synchronization. The dither sample may have a negative value and be formatted for resolution-independence with respect to the audio receiver.
