Publication number: 20150063367Abstract: A system for providing oversubscription of pipeline bandwidth comprises a steer module, an absorption buffer, an ingress packet processor (IPP), a memory management unit (MMU), and a main packet buffer. The steer module receives packets that include start of packet (SOP), middle of packet (MOP), and end of packet (EOP) cells, attaches a packet identifier to the cells, passes the MOP and EOP cells to the MMU, and stores the SOP cells and EOP metadata in the absorption buffer. The IPP processes the SOP cells and EOP metadata and passes the same to the MMU. The MMU stores the MOP, EOP, and processed SOP cells in the main packet buffer, combines, upon receiving the processed EOP metadata of each packet, the processed SOP cell, the MOP cells and the EOP cell of each packet to reconstruct each packet, and queues each reconstructed packet in an egress port queue.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2013Publication date: March 5, 2015Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Mark David GRISWOLD, Mohammad Kamel ISSA, Mohan Venkatachar KALKUNTE

Publication number: 20150066517Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are provided for resolution-independent dither sample insertion for audio transmissions. Audio transmitters transmit audio data streams to audio receivers. Data inactivity in the data stream triggers the audio receivers to enter power-saving/sleep modes in which synchronization with the audio transmitters is lost thus requiring time consuming resynchronization. Inactivity such as silence or zero-value data is detected in a data stream. Upon detection, a dither sample is inserted into the data stream and transmitted to the audio receiver to prevent the loss of synchronization. The dither sample may have a negative value and be formatted for resolution-independence with respect to the audio receiver.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2013Publication date: March 5, 2015Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Umesh Mallappa Agalgave

Patent number: 8971326Abstract: The present invention provides methods for performing payload header suppression (PHS), expansion, and verification in hardware. A PHS verify circuit reads a data packet until it reaches the location where the first byte must be compared to PHS rule verify bytes. Next, all the relevant bytes in the payload header are compared to the PHS vile verify bytes obtained from a payload header suppression rule mask. Upon completion of the compare, a flag is generated to a PHS suppress circuit indicating that verification has passed or failed. For payload headers passing the verification process, the payload header suppress circuit examines the payload header suppression mask to identify one or more bits in the payload header for which an associated byte string is to be suppressed. Next, the associated byte string for each of the identified bits are suppressed to generate a suppressed packet payload header. Finally, a payload header suppression index is added to the suppressed packet payload header.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2010Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Shane P.
