  • Patent number: 8965373
Abstract: Mobile terminated call establishment during inter radio access technology (IRAT) re-direction. Handovers between different respective radio access technologies (RATs) may be performed (e.g., IRAT redirection procedure) such that a given wireless communication device may be in communication with a given RAT cell, and then switch from that RAT cell to another RAT cell (e.g., a target RAT cell). This transition may be from a 3G cell to a target 4G cell. During such a redirection procedure, there may be some instances in which the target RAT cell may not be available immediately, and a device can check back with the first/original RAT cell during the search for the target RAT cell. That is to say, there may be some duration of time during the search for the target RAT cell in which that particular cell may not be available, and the device checks for pages in the first/original RAT cell.

  • Patent number: 8964521
Abstract: Aspects of the invention described herein may enable a greenfield access mode in IEEE 802.11n WLAN systems in comparison to an alternative approach that may not provide greenfield access. The utilization of greenfield access may reduce the portion of time required to transmit data due to overhead comprising preamble fields and header fields. This may enable higher data throughput rates to be achieved. This may further enable more robust transmission of data by enabling comparable data rates to be maintained while reducing the coding rate of encoded transmitted data. The reduction of the coding rate may enable comparable data rates to be maintained for transmission via RF channels characterized by lower SNR while still achieving desired target levels of packet error rates. In another aspect of the invention, mixed mode access may be achieved while reducing the portion of time required for transmitting data due to overhead.

  • Patent number: 8965757
Abstract: Multi-channel noise suppression systems and methods are described that omit the traditional delay-and-sum fixed beamformer in devices that include a primary speech microphone and at least one noise reference microphone with the desired speech being in the near-field of the device. The multi-channel noise suppression systems and methods use a blocking matrix (BM) to remove desired speech in the input speech signal received by the noise reference microphone to get a “cleaner” background noise component. Then, an adaptive noise canceler (ANC) is used to remove the background noise in the input speech signal received by the primary speech microphone based on the “cleaner” background noise component to achieve noise suppression. The filters implemented by the BM and ANC are derived using closed-form solutions that require calculation of time-varying statistics of complex frequency domain signals in the noise suppression system.

  • Patent number: 8964013
Abstract: A display system is provided that enables three-dimensional images to be displayed. The display system includes an elastic light manipulator positioned proximate an image generator. The image generator includes a pixel array. The elastic light manipulator includes an elastic material and is mounted in a manner that allows for automated stretching thereof. For instance, the elastic light manipulator may be an elastic lenticular lens, an elastic parallax barrier, etc. Because the elastic light manipulator can be stretched, optical properties of the elastic light manipulator can be dynamically modified, thereby changing the manner in which light emanating from the pixel array is delivered to the eyes of viewer(s). This allows for adaptive accommodation of, for example, a changing viewer sweet spot. The elastic light manipulator may be automatically rolled up or otherwise automatically removed from in front of the image generator in order to facilitate switching between 2D and 3D views.

  • Patent number: 8966643
Abstract: Members of a social network (SNET) circle can share content with other members of SNET circle, members of the same SNET that are not members of the same circle, or send content to people or devices outside of SNET. Different levels of content security can be applied to the shared content, depending on who requests the content, the destination of the content, user preferences, content type, SNET, SNET circle, or other security parameters. Content can be tagged to limit the number of times it can be accessed, the length of time access is allowed, and to otherwise control redistribution. Content can also be protected by limiting host network access to the content, implementing SNET circle firewalls and virtual private networks, or transcoding content before allowing transmission to non-SNET circle or SNET members. Docking of devices into an SNET security circle can be restricted to properly secured devices.

  • Publication number: 20150049052
Abstract: Often times, a touch-sensitive area of a touch-screen of a communication device is touched by a finger or a hand of a user. In some instances, a touch-based stylus of the present disclosure is available to the user. The user touches the touch-sensitive area of the communication device with the touch-based stylus. The communication device induces a current within the touch-based stylus. This induced current causes a voltage to accumulate within the passive object when touched by the user. This accumulated voltage transfers to the touch-sensitive area when the touch-based stylus touches the touch-sensitive area of the communication device. Thereafter, the communication device compares signal metrics of various regions of the touch-sensitive area to detect an instance and/or a location of the touch from the touch-based stylus.
