  • Patent number: 8755316
Abstract: An active reception period (active time) of a power saving pattern (DRX) is masked to a measurement period (ABS) of a serving or neighbor cell interference mitigation pattern (eICIC) such that the masked active reception period repeatedly coincides with the measurement period. Then the masked active reception period is utilized for communicating resource allocations (PDCCHs) between a serving cell (eNB) and a user equipment (UE). In various embodiments: the masking is done without shortening a sleep opportunity (DRX opportunity) of the power saving pattern; the masking is implemented by delaying an on-duration start time of the active reception period; the on-duration start time is controlled by a timer which runs only during measurement periods of the interference mitigation pattern, or by applying a second offset generated by the UE in addition to applying a first offset configured by the serving cell; and the masking is by adopting a default power saving pattern.

  • Publication number: 20140161007
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that may reduce unnecessary resource consumption and network traffic in a communications network, such as an LTE network. Initiating a tracking area update (TAU) procedure may be avoided in instances where a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle length chosen by a user equipment (UE) would be ignored in accordance with standards governing paging in the communications networks. To determine whether or not a TAU should be initiated, three parameters may be considered. A first parameter may be the DRX cycle length that is already configured in a mobility management entity (MME). A second parameter may be a DRX cycle length chosen by the UE that the UE wishes to indicate to the MME. A third parameter may be a DRX cycle length that is broadcast by an evolved Node B serving a cell in which the UE is operating.

  • Publication number: 20140162651
Abstract: Mobile terminated call establishment during inter radio access technology (IRAT) re-direction. Handovers between different respective radio access technologies (RATs) may be performed (e.g., IRAT redirection procedure) such that a given wireless communication device may be in communication with a given RAT cell, and then switch from that RAT cell to another RAT cell (e.g., a target RAT cell). This transition may be from a 3G cell to a target 4G cell. During such a redirection procedure, there may be some instances in which the target RAT cell may not be available immediately, and a device can check back with the first/original RAT cell during the search for the target RAT cell. That is to say, there may be some duration of time during the search for the target RAT cell in which that particular cell may not be available, and the device checks for pages in the first/original RAT cell.

Coordination and management of delivery of a source sequence, that has possibly undergone adaptive bit rate (ABR) encoding upstream to generate a number of respective fragments that may have different respective bit rates associated therewith, to one or more downstream, user, or client devices is achieved via appropriate communication network management and coordination performed by one or more communication devices within the system. In one instance, a home gateway communication device operates to perform such coordination management of a convergent network or convergent digital home network (CDHN). Consideration of any one or more local and/or remote conditions, parameters, etc. may be employed by such an application to ensure effective delivery of a source sequence to one or more client devices.

  • Publication number: 20140160957
Abstract: A dedicated calibration device may be utilized by a wireless transceiver device, such as a base station, to compute compensation matrices. The wireless transceiver device and the dedicated calibration device can exchange training sequence signals. Based on the exchanged training sequence signals, the wireless transceiver device and the dedicated calibration device can estimate overall baseband to baseband channel responses taking into account the amplitude and phase responses of the respective transmit and receive radio chains, and the wireless transceiver device can determine the compensation matrices. Furthermore, the wireless transceiver device can estimate a baseband-to-baseband uplink channel response relative to actual user equipment, approximate a downlink channel response using only one of the determined compensation matrices, and perform beamforming to the actual user equipment using the approximated downlink channel response.

  • Publication number: 20140160357
Abstract: A method and system are provided in which a processor may perform fast source switching and/or automatic source switching by keeping active the signals from multiple sources. The processor may determine which received video signals are locked-in within a front-end portion of the processor. A video signal may be locked-in when a demodulator is locked to a carrier in the video signal or when a decoder is programmed to decode the video signal. During operation, the processor may switch from processing a current video signal to processing a video signal selected from those determined to be locked-in. The processor may maintain active a portion of a back-end portion of the processor to handle the switch from the current video signal to the selected video signal. The processor may switch to process between video signals when a predetermined content and/or metadata is detected within one of the video signals.

Abstract: There is determined a first uplink-downlink configuration for subframes in a frame, which in various examples is fixed or dynamically allocated. A second uplink-downlink configuration is semi-statically allocated such as in system information. When mapping automatic repeat request signaling for a first user equipment which is dynamically allocated an uplink-downlink configuration, at least some downlink subframes mapped by the second uplink-downlink configuration are excluded by the mapping. In one example, UL resources mapped from a first group DL subframes are indexed according to the second configuration, and then UL resources mapped from a second group of DL subframes are indexed according to the first configuration, and the excluded DL subframes are within the first group and excluded from the second group and the automatic repeat request signaling is in an uplink resource mapped from the second group.

  • Publication number: 20140160139
Abstract: A system implements rate control for encoding and decoding operations, for example, operations performed on slices of data such as image data. The system implements fine-grained bit rate control allowing for non-integer bit rates to be specified for the system. The non-integer values may allow the system to more accurately characterize a data rate of a communication link between a source and sink. The more accurate characterization may facilitate improved utilization of the communication link capacity.

  • Patent number: 8750089
Abstract: A method and system for iterative discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based channel estimation using minimum mean square error (MMSE) techniques are presented. Aspects of the method and system include a procedure for computing channel estimates in both the time domain and frequency domain (or mixed domain) using an iterative DFT method based on MMSE techniques. One aspect of the method and system may achieve low computational complexity and produce more accurate channel estimate values in low signal to noise ratio (SNR) regimes in comparison to conventional DFT-based channel estimation methods, which utilize least squares (LS) techniques. The method and system disclosed herein may be practiced in connection with a wide range of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based systems, for example wireless local area networks (WLAN, for example IEEE 802.11 WLAN systems), and LTE systems.
