Abstract: Techniques are described herein that provide an interface for receiving and deserializing digital bit stream(s). For instance, a receiver for a high-speed deserializer may include digital slicers, a digital phase interpolator, and a digital clock phase generator. The digital slicers may be configured to determine a digital value of a data input. The digital phase interpolator may be configured to generate an interpolated clock signal based on input clock signals that correspond to respective phases of a reference clock. The phase of the interpolated clock tracks the data input to the receiver through a clock recovery loop. The digital clock phase generator may be configured to generate output clock signals to control timing of the respective digital slicers. The receiver may further include a single digital eye monitor configured to monitor a data eye of the data input.

  • Publication number: 20140148101
Abstract: A wireless microphone and wireless earpiece each may exchange radio frequency (RF) signals with a base unit and render content contained within the exchanged RF signals to a user. This wireless earpiece further includes a wireless interface, a processor, a speaker, a user interface, and an authentication module. The wireless interface allows the earpiece to wirelessly communicate with the base unit. The processor recovers communications exchanged with the base unit that the speaker then renders audible. A user interface coupled to the processor may alert the user to any additional incoming audio communications. Having received the alert, the user may select between the communications. The authentication module allows the wireless earpiece and microphone to pair and register with the base unit.

  • Publication number: 20140146707
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are provided for determining operating modes of a communications link for a user equipment (UE) in a communications system based on whether the UE is configured for network coded transmission control protocol (TCP-NC). The operating modes can include physical layer channel error recovery, modulation, channel selection, among others. For example, physical layer channel error recovery can be scaled-back, or disabled, when TCP-NC is available because it is a redundant error recovery scheme. Accordingly, power can be saved, higher spectral efficiency can be achieved, and the user experience can be improved while the TCP-NC protocol recovers any data loss due to channel, errors.

  • Publication number: 20140145300
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are described for integration of integrated circuit die and silicon-based trench capacitors using silicon-level connections to reduce connection lengths, parasitics and necessary capacitance magnitudes and volumes. A trench capacitor can be fabricated on silicon and mounted on or embedded in a chip or one or more sides of a through silicon interposer (TSI) for silicon-level connections to chip circuitry. Aspect ratio dependent, as opposed to trench diameter or trench depth dependent, trench capacitors formed by a dense array of high aspect ratio trenches with thin, high permittivity dielectric increase capacitance per unit area and volume, resulting in thin, high capacitance trench capacitors having thickness equal to or less than chip thickness.

  • Publication number: 20140148095
Abstract: Various configurations and arrangements of various communication devices and antenna solutions are disclosed. Antenna solutions disclosed herein include a single NFC controller configured to control activation/deactivation of multiple NFC antennas. The single NFC controller can control activation/deactivation of the multiple NFC antennas by providing control signals to a switch which can switch activation/deactivation of each of the multiple antennas based on the received control signals. Various patterns of activation and/or deactivation of the multiple NFC antennas can be implemented by the NFC controller. Upon detection of another NFC capable device by one of the multiple antennas, the NFC controller can freeze the activation state of the multiple antennas until an RF_DEACTIVATE signal is received.

  • Patent number: 8737917
Abstract: A dual-mode BLE device identifies idle intervals within Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. The identified idle intervals are used by the dual-mode BLE device to concurrently perform various BLE activities. For example, advertising packet transmissions, advertising packet scanning, connection setup, and/or data packet communication may be concurrently performed within identified idle intervals within the Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. Packet transmission timing, advertising interval, scan window, and/or packet size are determined based on the identified idle intervals within the Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. A scan window is adjusted based on timing of expected advertising transmissions and/or advertising interval(s) for saving power. BLE packets and Bluetooth BR/EDR packets may be detected in a single advertising channel. Maximal payload size is set based on the identified idle intervals within Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications.

  • Patent number: 8736475
Abstract: A FIRDAC with a return-to-zero or return-to-open drive uses multiple DACs receiving delayed copies of a digital input data signal to reduce thermal noise and intersymbol interference to produce a summed analog output. The SNR of sigma-delta ADCs using current-source-based DACs is significantly limited by the thermal noise of the DAC current sources. DACs using a switched voltage connected via a resistor or other passive element are quieter, but in a non-return-to-zero configuration tend to suffer from intersymbol interference if used at GHz clock frequencies. The intersymbol interference can be avoided by using a return-to-zero or return-to-open drive using multiple DACs clocked on successive half clock cycles (a finite-impulse-response DAC).
