Abstract: Embodiments provide WiFi and LTE tailored transceiver radio frequency (RF) filtering techniques and configurations to enable coexistence between WiFi and LTE transceivers operating in close proximity. In particular, embodiments provide filtering techniques to reject emissions from LTE into WiFi, and vice versa. The filtering techniques eliminate the need for additional isolation between LTE and WiFi antennas (approximately 50 dB), which is beyond what is achievable in practice. Embodiments can be tailored according to different use cases of the WiFi and LTE transceivers (e.g., fixed CPE, portable router, smart phone with tethering).

Abstract: A circuit for measurement of a phase noise of an oscillator may include the oscillator to generate a first signal having the same oscillation frequency as an instantaneous oscillation frequency of the oscillator. The circuit may include a first circuit that is configured to generate a second signal from the first signal. An instantaneous amplitude of the second signal may be related to the oscillation frequency of the first signal. A second circuit may be configured to integrate the second signal to generate a third signal. The third signal can be a measure of the phase noise of the oscillator. The third signal can be used to cancel some or all of the phase noise of the oscillator.

  • Publication number: 20140140294
Abstract: The present invention proposes methods in relation to providing for random access in a local area network environment, and encompasses, from an eNB perspective, defining (S1) a set of N dedicated preambles among a total number X of preambles, allocating (S4) a dedicated preamble to a terminal responsive to a connection request received from said terminal, and identifying (S9) said terminal when requesting random access, based on the allocated dedicated preamble contained in a random access request received. From a UE perspective, it encompasses requesting (S3) a connection to be established with a network transceiver device, receiving (S5) information on a dedicated preamble being allocated, and issuing (S8) a random access request to said network transceiver device which includes the allocated dedicated preamble. It also addresses correspondingly configured devices and computer program products.

  • Publication number: 20140140317
Abstract: An interference suppression (IS) time/frequency zone for improved interference suppression at the user equipment (UE) is provided. The IS time/frequency zone can be scheduled and set up using existing signaling of the Almost Blank Subframe (ABS) framework. This includes using the existing signaling of the ABS framework to schedule the IS time/frequency zone, coordinate transmission parameters among base stations for the IS time/frequency zone, and signal the IS time/frequency zone to the UE. In another aspect, interfering base stations align respective reference signals during the IS time/frequency zone, which allows the UE to measure the channels from its serving base station and/or the interfering base stations(s). With channel state information knowledge at the UE, interference alignment can be achieved at the UE during the IS time/frequency zone.

  • Publication number: 20140140455
Abstract: A SAW-less receiver includes an interface, an RF to IF receiver section, and a receiver IF to baseband section. The RF to IF receiver section includes a frequency translated bandpass filter (FTBPF), a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), and a mixing section. The FTBPF includes a switching network and a plurality of baseband impedances. The switching network is operable to couple the plurality of baseband impedances to the interface in accordance with a plurality of phase-offset RF clock signals to RF bandpass filter the inbound RF signal. The LNA amplifies the filtered inbound RF signal and the mixing section mixes the amplified inbound RF signal with a local oscillation to produce an inbound IF signal. The receiver IF to baseband section converts the inbound IF signal into one or more inbound symbol streams. Filtering may be prior or after amplification by the LNA.

  • Publication number: 20140141713
Abstract: A transmitter front-end for wireless chip-to-chip communication, and for other, longer-range (e.g., several meters or several tens of meters) device-to-device communication is disclosed. The transmitter front-end can include a plurality of reflector power amplifiers implemented on an IC chip and an on-chip or on-package antenna for wireless transmitting a signal to another IC chip or device. The plurality of reflector power amplifiers can reflect the radiation of the on-chip or on-package antenna in a particular pattern such that the effective radiation pattern is reinforced in a desired direction and suppressed in an undesired direction. This helps to reduce the required output power of the transmitter front-end and mitigate interference with other potential wireless chip-to-chip or longer-range communications.

  • Publication number: 20140139733
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments directed to transcoding a bit stream in parallel. A bit stream may be divided into a plurality of segments, where a plurality of transcoders encode at least a portion of the segments in parallel. If encoding is performed using variable bit rate (BR) encoding, each encoder may encode a segment and vary a BR for the segment. A measured average BR is compared with a target average BR to determine whether to adjust a video quality level (VQL) or any other encoder parameter. A relatively constant subjective quality may be maintained using variable BR encoding while achieving a target average BR. When using constant BR encoding, a VQL or other encoder parameter is used by encoders to achieve relatively constant subjective quality. For example, a relatively continuous quantization parameter between adjacent encoded segments may be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20140141735
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for a broadband, closed-loop RF transmitter for multi-band applications that employs a single RF path to service multiple bands of operation. Embodiments of the present disclosure implement a broadband impedance matching module, which avoids the need for several costly and complex narrow-band matching networks. In an embodiment, the broadband impedance matching module includes concentric, mutually-coupled inductors. By adding this broadband impedance matching functionality, delay is significantly reduced because a single path can be used to service multiple bands.

  • Publication number: 20140141795
Abstract: A geo-fence capable device is disclosed that is capable of performing an accurate geo-fence operation while minimizing power consumption. The device includes sensors, Wi-Fi connectability and GNSS. Sensors intermittently detect whether the device is in motion. When determined to be in motion, Wi-Fi is used to acquire a wireless access point list and to compare the access point list to previously-stored access points in order to determine whether the device is still within a particular region. GNSS is used to confirm exit from a region and to intermittently monitor whether the device has entered a new region. GNSS and application processor use can be minimized by utilizing sensor and Wi-Fi functionality as preliminary region monitors.
