Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for detecting Bluetooth signals utilizing a wideband receiver are provided. In this regard, a portion of a frequency band may be scanned multiple times, where each scan comprises receiving signals present in the scanned portion of the frequency band. Based on results of a Fast Fourier Transform performed on the received signals, presence of one or more Bluetooth transmissions in the received signals may be detected. In instances that a Bluetooth transmission is detected, a type of the Bluetooth transmission may be determined based on a number of the scans in which the Bluetooth transmission was detected. In instances that a detected Bluetooth transmission is a page, a Bluetooth transceiver in the wireless communication device may be powered up and/or enter a page scanning mode. The scans may be performed by a wireless local area networking receiver within the wireless communication device.

Abstract: A system and method for utilizing multiple communication pathways for communication hand-off (e.g., in a MIMO system). Various aspects of the present invention may comprise an access point communicating with a communication system utilizing a first number of transceivers. After determining to perform a hand-off of the communication system to a second access point, simultaneously, a second number of communication system transceivers may be utilized to communicate with the first access point and a third number of communication system transceivers may be utilized to communicate with the second access point. Various aspects of the present invention may also comprise an access point initially communicating with a communication system utilizing a first number of transceivers. After determining to hand-off the communication system, the access point may communicate with the communication system utilizing a second number of transceivers that is different from the first number of transceivers.

Abstract: A circuit includes a package substrate that supports an on-chip gyrating circuit that generates a motion parameter based on motion of the circuit. The package substrate further supports a die that supports a processing module that processes the motion parameter to produce motion data, wherein the processing module further generates a receive control signal and a transmit control signal in accordance with the motion data. The die further supports a wireless local area network transceiver that generates an outbound RF signal that includes outbound data and that generates voice inbound data from an inbound RF signal, wherein the wireless local area network transceiver is further operable to adjust a receive parameter based on the receive control signal and to adjust a transmit parameter in response to the transmit control signal.
Abstract: An external power supply unit (PSU) for an appliance includes rectification circuitry operable to convert an AC voltage from mains power lines to a DC voltage output, decoupling circuitry operable to decouple a broadband data signal from the mains power lines, timing circuitry operable to provide a signal representative of the mains AC voltage timing, and conveyance circuitry operable to convey the DC voltage output, a ground reference signal, the signal representative of the mains AC voltage timing, and the broadband data signal to the appliance, wherein the conveyance circuitry has no more than four conductors. The timing circuitry may be further operable to modulate the signal representative of the mains AC voltage timing onto either the DC voltage output or the broadband data signal. The timing circuitry may be a zero-crossing detector.

Abstract: A primary computing device and a secondary computing device couple with an internal storage component of the primary device powered by, and data accessed by either the first or secondary computing device. The internal storage component includes multiple connectors for connecting internal buses and external buses over which data can be accessed, internally or externally. It includes an internal storage unit (in general, at least one storage unit, and multiple storage units are supported) to which data can be written and from which data can be read. It also includes arbitration and isolation circuitry that makes it possible to access the internal storage unit (for read/write data access, etc.) over one of the buses. The arbitration and an isolation circuitry also facilitates powering the internal storage component employing power supplied by an internal power source, or via an external power source, such as power from an USB connection.
Abstract: A video transmission system includes a transceiver module that transmits a video signal to a remote device over at least one communications channel wherein the video signal is transmitted as at least one separate video layer stream chosen from, an independent video layer stream and at least one dependent video layer streams that require the independent video layer for decoding. A control module determines at least one channel characteristic of the at least one channel and chooses the at least one separate video layer stream based on the at least one channel characteristic of the at least one channel.

A processing module generates at least one power mode signal based on first transmit power control data received via the first inbound RF signal. Abstract: A method and system supporting handoff of a multimedia call session using background network scanning is disclosed. A mobile multimedia handset may engage in the exchange of a multimedia information stream via a first wireless network, and may sniff a portion of radio frequency spectrum for a second wireless network. Information about available services and network quality of service for the second network may be received by querying the second wireless network or from advertising by the second wireless network. Hand-off between the two networks may be based upon the results of the comparison and one or more user-defined criteria, and the handoff may be synchronized according to predefined events in the stream of multimedia information.

Abstract: Determining pixel behavior type of a pixel or a group of pixels of a LCD and triggering adjustment in drive power of the pixel or the group of pixels based on the pixel behavior type. The pixel behavior type indicates relative motion of areas on the LCD in a video. A pixel behavior determination module is one or combination of a software and a hardware and directs one or more selected pixels of the LCD to be driven relative slower or faster based upon content of video that the selected pixels display. The module independently or in conjunction with another module identifies an active window from a plurality of windows corresponding to a plurality of applications running on the host device and sets the drive power of those pixels that correspond to the active window based on speed of a video displayed on the active window. The module may also adapt LCD drive power on a pixel by pixel basis based upon user input and/or remaining battery life.
Abstract: A system and method of throughput-based transmission rate adaptation for wireless transmissions is provided. An adapted transmission rate is determined based on transmission feedback from previous wireless frame transmissions. The adapted transmission rate is determined by comparing nominal throughputs derived from packet success rate (PSR) estimates at the current rate and other rates, such that the adapted transmission rate chosen is one that maximizes the nominal throughput. The PSR estimates can include those associated with the current rate, a fallback rate, and other rates. The PSR estimates are updated after each frame transmission. The PSR estimates can be saved and used for calculating future estimates, and they can also be time-stamped so as not to use them if they are older than a predetermined age.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for improved thermal performance and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding in integrated circuit (IC) packages are described. A die-up or die-down package includes an IC die, a die attach pad, a heat spreader cap coupled to the die attach pad defining a cavity, and one or more peripheral rows of leads surrounding the die attach pad. The leads do not protrude substantially from the footprint of the encasing structure. The die attach pad and the heat spreader cap defines an encasing structure that substantially encloses the IC die, and shields EMI emanating from and radiating towards the IC die. The encasing structure also dissipates heat generated by the IC die during operation.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a circuit for providing a tail current for a line driver includes an adjustable current source. The adjustable current source includes a number of current source cells coupled together in a parallel configuration, where the current source cells are configured to provide the tail current for the line driver in response to a digital control signal. The circuit can further include a digital core coupled to the adjustable current source, where the digital core provides the digital control signal. The digital control signal provides a number of bits, where each bit controls one of the current source cells. In one embodiment, a current source cell can comprise a number of current source sub-cells. The current source cells can be configured to provide the tail current for the line driver in response to the digital control signal when the line driver is operating in a class AB mode.
