Publication number: 20100251307Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention significantly decrease the processing requirements as well as the cost of digital television receivers. In an embodiment, processing requirements of both hardware and software components in digital television receivers are lowered by generating the channel map without regard to channel map information present in a Virtual Channel Table (VCT). In another embodiment, significant recurring portions of an ATSC signal can be neglected with no processing power, cost, and time spent thereon. In another embodiment, processing typically used to process channel map information contained in the VCT portion of the ATSC signal is freed and may instead be used to process other information, thereby enabling further enhancements and features in digital television services.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2009Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Adil Jagmag, Rajesh Mamidwar

Publication number: 20100245012Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programmable attenuation and a programmable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters utilize multi track spiral inductors with shields to increase circuit Q. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2010Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: James Y.C. Publication number: 20100246634Abstract: A method for successive interference cancellation in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is provided that uses variable interferer weights. This method allows interfering signals to be cancelled in order to recover a transmitted data signal. This method involves receiving the data signal subject to interference from at least one interfering signal. A first interfering signal is identified. Then an interferer weight coefficient associated with the first interfering signal is generated based on its signal strength and SF upon acquisition of the SF. This SF may be monitored such that the Interferer weight may be adjusted when the SF changes based on the detected changes. This allows the first interfering signal to be cancelled from the received data signal using the interferer weight coefficient. These processes may then be reiterated for other interfering signals. It is then possible to recover the transmitted data signal from the received data signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2008Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: Arkady Molev-Shteiman, Arie Heiman

Publication number: 20100245624Abstract: An audio/video (A/V) capture device and method that capture audio and video in a spatially synchronized manner. In one implementation, the device and method automatically adjust the shape of a spatial directivity pattern of a microphone array used for acquiring audio so that the pattern is spatially synchronized with an amount of video zoom being applied by a video acquisition section to acquire video. For example, a wider spatial directivity pattern may automatically be used during wide-angle shots and a narrower spatial directivity pattern may automatically be used during close-ups. This beneficially allows for the consistent attenuation of audio signals received from audio sources that lie outside the field of view of the video acquisition section while passing or even enhancing audio signals received from audio sources that lie within the field of view even though the width of the field of view has changed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2009Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventor: Franck Beaucoup

Patent number: 7804893Abstract: The feedback of reinterleaved correctly decoded data blocks to a decoder is provided for use in channel decoding operations of channel coded word containing data block. Once a properly decoded data block has been determined, feedback of constraints on the estimated bit sequences decoded data characteristics to a turbo decoder assist in additional decoding operations. Estimated bit sequences may be selected from those trellises that pass through the constraint imposed by knowledge of re-interleaving properly decoded data blocks. This allows the decoder to generate solutions having a minimum probability of error that are also confined by the re-interleaved properly decoded data blocks.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2007Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Arie Heiman, Arkady Molev-Shteiman
