In one embodiment, there is presented a circuit for converting an unsigned code to a signed code. The circuit comprises a multiplexer. The multiplexer comprises a first input, a second input, and an output. The first input receives a first value, the first value being the right shifted unsigned code plus one. The second input receives a second value, the second value being an inverse of a right shifted unsigned code plus one. The output outputs a selected one of the first value received by the first input or the second value received by the second input. The multiplexer selects the selected one of the first value or the second value based on a least significant bit of the unsigned code.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2005Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Chhavi Kishore, Jagannath Sathyanarayana Shastry

Publication number: 20100232412Abstract: A communication system in which multiple protocols and proxy services are executed by an access point. In one embodiment of the invention, GVRP and GMRP registrations are combined in a single packet when a wireless device roams to a different VLAN. In addition, outbound GVRP and GMRP multicast messages are handled by an access point (also referred to as a GVRP and GMRP “gateway”) such that the wireless device is not burdened with the associated computational overhead. In a further embodiment, a wireless device may dynamically switch between a VLAN-aware state and a VLAN-unaware state depending on the nature of a detected access point. For example, if a relevant access point supports GVRP, the wireless device may operate as a VLAN terminal. If a wireless device is not attached to an access point with a matching VLAN ID, the wireless device sends and receives VLAN tagged frames.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2010Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventor: Robert C. Publication number: 20100235665Abstract: A system and method for enabling fallback states for energy efficient Ethernet (EEE). EEE devices can be designed to support multiple power saving states that impact layers higher than the PHY layer. Typically, these higher levels of power savings would require a greater period of time to accommodate a return to an active state. In a dynamic negotiation process, the receiving device can advertise multiple fallback power saving states to the transmitting device. The transmitting device's allocation of buffering can then determine which of the power saving states would be supported.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2009Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Wael William Diab
