Abstract: A wireless terminal tracks a tracked wireless terminal and displays tracking information to a user. The tracking wireless terminal sends a tracking request for the tracked wireless terminal via a supporting wireless network infrastructure. When the tracking request is valid, the tracking wireless terminal receives a tracking response for the tracked wireless terminal. Based upon the tracking response, the tracking wireless terminal accesses a map segment corresponding to received location coordinates. The tracking wireless terminal determines a relative position of the location coordinates of the tracked wireless terminal with respect to the map segment. With this determination made, operation concludes with the tracking wireless terminal displaying the map segment and an icon on the map segment that represents the tracked wireless terminal. The icon representing the tracked wireless terminal is displayed at the relative position of the location coordinates of the tracked wireless terminal.

Abstract: LDPC coding systems for 60 GHz millimeter wave based physical layer extension. LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) encoding in cooperation with sub-carrier interleaving, in the context of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), and appropriate symbol mapping is performed in accordance with transmit processing as may be performed within a communication device. In a receiving communication device, receive processing may be performed on a received signal based on the type of LDPC, sub-carrier interleaving, and symbol mapping thereof. The LDPC code employed in accordance with such LDPC encoding may have a partial-tree like structure. In addition, appropriate manipulation of the bits assigned to respective sub-carriers may be performed to ensure that the bits emplaced in the MSB (Most Significant Bit) location of various symbols has some desired diversity (e.g., from different codewords, from appropriately different locations within a given codeword, etc.).

  • Publication number: 20090279643
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for estimating transmission noise in a programming information signal. Channel noise power in binary phase shift keying (“BPSK”) modulated telecommunication may be estimated. Such a method may include receiving over the channel a reference signal and a data BPSK signal. The data BPSK signal may include the programming information. The method may include formulating a channel transfer function estimate for the channel based on the reference signal. The estimate may include a channel estimation error. The data BPSK signal may be equalized using the transfer function estimate. The data BPSK signal may include noise, which may be quantified in terms of power. The data BPSK signal noise power may be estimated in such a manner that is independent of the channel estimation error.

Abstract: A polar transmitter includes a two-point modulation phase-locked loop (PLL) for producing an RF signal with a wide bandwidth. The PLL includes a first input for receiving a phase signal of a variable-envelope modulated signal and providing the phase signal along a first signal path to produce a first frequency modulation signal and a second input for receiving the phase signal and providing the phase signal along a second signal path to produce a second frequency modulation signal. The PLL further includes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) having two modulation points, one for receiving the first frequency modulation signal and the other for receiving the second frequency modulation signal. The VCO is controlled by an aggregate of the first frequency modulation signal and the second frequency modulation signal to up-convert the phase signal from an IF to an RF to produce the RF signal with a wide bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 7617291
Abstract: A method and system for handling received out-of-order network data using generic buffers for non-posting TCP applications is disclosed. When incoming out-of-order data is received and there is no application buffer posted, a TCP data placement may notify a TCP reassembler to terminate a current generic buffer, allocate a new current generic buffer, and DMA the incoming data into the new current generic buffer. The TCP data placement may notify the TCP reassembler the starting TCP sequence number and the length of the new current generic buffer. Moreover, the TCP data placement may add entries into a TCP out-of-order table when the incoming data creates a new disjoint area. The TCP data placement may adjust an existing disjoint area to reflect any updates. When a TCP application allocates or posts a buffer, then the TCP reassembler may copy data from a linked list of generic buffers into posted buffers.

  • Patent number: 7616701
Abstract: ZEB (zero excess bandwidth) modulation. The modulation rate of a signal is increased to the entirety of a communication channel's available bandwidth. Spectral zeroes at the edges of the available bandwidth now coincide with spectral zeroes at the edges of the Nyquist band and lead to ISI (intersymbol interference), which cannot be eliminated by equalization. Thus, in a ZEB system intersymbol interference (ISI) is intentionally allowed and dealt with by the known technique of TH (Tomlinson-Harashima) precoding. Comparison of conventional zero-ISI systems with ZEB systems, both exhibiting identical transmit spectra with finite spectral roll offs towards the edges of the available bandwidth, illustrate significant gains in channel throughput achievable by the ZEB systems. Similar gains can hardly be achieved by more sophisticated channel coding for zero-ISI systems. For ZEB systems an effective spectral shaping involving a simple infinite impulse response (IIR) of the overall channel is proposed.
