  • Patent number: 5629783
Abstract: A liquid crystal device includes a TFT or active element substrate on which TFTs and pixel electrodes are arranged in the form of a matrix, a counter substrate having a counter electrode formed thereon and arranged to oppose the active element substrate, a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer arranged between the active element substrate and the counter substrate and having a polymer resin and a liquid crystal which are dispersed, and a fluorescent film arranged on the pixel electrode. The device displays an image by controlling scattering, absorption, and transmission of light passing through the polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer. The phosphor film converts part of supplied light into fluorescent light having a predetermined wavelength and outputs colored light. Light used for a display is increased in intensity by the fluorescent light emitted from the phosphor film, thereby displaying a bright image.

  • Patent number: 5621554
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device comprises a pair of glass substrates, a driving circuit, and picture sections and arranged in a row. The sections form a first display area, and the sections a second display area. The driving circuit has signal terminals, which are connected by signal lines to the signal terminals of the picture sections. The picture sections have signal terminals located on that side of the first display area which faces away from the driving circuit. The signal terminals of the first display area are connected by interconnecting lines to the signal terminals of the second display area at side of the first and second display area which faces away from the circuit. Thus, the signal lines do not intersect with the interconnecting lines. Therefore, the driving circuit can be mounted directly on one of the glass substrates and can be connected to all display sections by the signal lines, the signal lines and scan lines all provided on the glass substrates.

  • Patent number: 5617468
Abstract: A portable telephone set is provided with a remote control button for remotely controlling the base station telephone set by operating the button. If the portable telephone set is out of the service area of the base station set when the remote control button is operated, the portable telephone set calls the base station set by using the telephone numbers of the base station set stored in the RAM of the portable telephone set to connect it to the base station set by way of a line and thereafter transmits a remote control signal for the operated remote control button to the base station set. If the portable telephone set receives control information from a radio base station as it enters the service area of the radio base station from outside the service area, the speaker of the portable telephone set sounds to notify the user of the situation.

  • Patent number: 5615685
Abstract: A control unit of a measuring apparatus controls a sound driving circuit to make a sounding unit generate pitch sounds at a predetermined pace for three minutes. After generation of the pitch sounds for three minutes, a heart rate sensor measures a heart rate of an exerciser who has executed an exercise in synchronism with the generated pitch sounds, and the measured heart rate is stored in RAM. Further, the control unit controls the sounding unit to generate pitch sounds at a different pace for another three minutes, and a heart rate of the exerciser is measured and stored similarly. Based on the measured heart rates and personal data such as an age of the exerciser input through a key input unit, a level of objective physical strength of the exerciser is calculated and displayed on a display device. In other words, physical strength of the exerciser is objectively evaluated based on physical data such as a heart rate that varies when the exerciser performs the exercise.

  • Patent number: 5612931
Abstract: When an electronic instrument has taken a predetermined attitude, an attitude-detecting switch incorporated in the instrument detects the attitude, and outputs a switch signal to a CPU. The CPU, in turn, drives a lighting device for lighting a liquid crystal display device. The lighting device is driven, for example, only when a predetermined number of pulses of the switch signal are generated within a predetermined period of time, or only when the switch signal has continued for a predetermined period of time or more. Thus, there are cases where the lighting device is not driven irrespective of the generation of the switch signal. As a result, the lighting device is prevented from operating so often, and hence the life of its battery is lengthened.

  • Patent number: 5612716
Abstract: An image display device which includes a ROM 33 where a multiplicity of image data on face parts such as eyes, eyebrows, a nose, and a face contour, and a hair style is stored. The user selectively reads any image data out of the ROM 33 by operating a key input unit 32, and synthesizes the read data into portrait data. The portrait data is displayed on a display 24 and stored sequentially in a RAM 36. The stored portrait data may be set as secret data which others cannot see. The secret portrait data is displayed as a silhouette and is returned from silhouette display to portrait one only when input data matches with password data stored beforehand in a password storage 39.

  • Patent number: 5611037
Abstract: A stored plurality of closed curved line data define a plurality of closed curved lines that represent parts of a face image. From the stored data, all coordinates of the closed curved lines on a raster grid plane are computed. A stored plurality of color data each designate a color of a different one of the image objects surrounded by the closed curved lines. Each coordinate on the plane is painted with a color designated by the stored color data of the image object having the highest priority in the image objects that include the coordinate, thus making a colored face image. The face expression of the image may be changed by transforming the closed curved lines with stored transforming data. An animation of an image sequence with a continuously changing face expression may be made by successively transforming the closed curved lines with a stored sequence of transforming data. Bit map data may be applied to represent part of the face image.

  • Patent number: 5608389
Abstract: A remote control device for an electronic appliance includes a plurality of channel number inputting keys for inputting a channel number and a further key different from the plurality of channel number inputting keys. When the further key was operated, a CPU determines whether any one of the plurality of channel number inputting keys was operated directly before the further key was operated. If so, the CPU sends the electronic appliance a first remote control code related to channel selection. If not, the CPU sends the electronic appliance a second remote control code which controls a function different from the channel selection. In this case, the sole key fulfills the two functions to reduce the number of keys.
