  • Patent number: 12180473
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure include methods and compositions in which two inter-chromosomal or intra-chromosomal genomic DNA regions are rearranged upon exposure of the genomic DNA to a chimeric RNA that produces fusion of the two regions. The chimeric RNA hybridizes to the two different parts of the genomic DNA and forms a DNA/RNA hybrid in a sequence-specific manner, thereby facilitating genomic rearrangement. In particular embodiments this mechanism is utilized to produce directed gene fusion in targeted genomic DNA regions.

Abstract: A test device for indole concentrations in headspace gasses of bacterial cultures has a porous substrate imprinted with a wax barrier surrounding a test spot impregnated with p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde (DMACA). In embodiments, the test spot lies within a printed bar code and is configured to alter a reading of the bar code when the test spot darkens. The test device may optionally include a second test spot impregnated with Bromthymol Blue, Cobinamide, p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, or Chromotropic acid. The device is used by inoculating a sample into a culture; incubating the culture; inserting the test device into airspace of the culture, and observing the test spot for a color change indicative of indole presence.

  • Publication number: 20240428388
Abstract: A method and apparatus for evaluating soybean quality are disclosed. Automated or semi-automated image processing can be implemented with commercially available machine vision hardware. Post-harvest soybeans are separated, imaged, and analyzed to assess grain quality factors used in official grading. The system may be used prior to sale, purchase, further harvesting, or planting subsequent crops. The system reduces inspection errors, reduces variance in results, increases efficiency, enhances repeatability, and improves the standardization of soybean quality evaluation. Shape analysis, color analysis, and Haralick texture analysis are employed to determine when certain types of damage are present, to distinguish between types of damage, and to classify grains as smooth, cracked, or wrinkled. The system is sufficiently robust to allow successful deployment in rural, remote, and non-standard environments.

  • Patent number: 12171542
Abstract: Systems and methods for estimating quantitative histological features of a subject's tissue based on medical images of the subject are provided. For instance, quantitative histological features of a tissue are estimated by comparing medical images of the subject to a trained model that relates histological features to multiple different medical image contrast types, whether from one medical imaging modality or multiple different medical imaging modalities. In general, the trained model is generated based on medical images of ex vivo samples, in vitro samples, in vivo samples or combinations thereof, and is based on histological features extracted from those samples. A machine learning algorithm, or other suitable learning algorithm, is used to generate the trained model. The trained model is not patient-specific and thus, once generated, can be applied to any number of different individual subjects.

  • Patent number: 12174200
Abstract: A targeted DEFA5 antibody is disclosed herein. The targeted DEFA5 antibody has a high degree of specificity with DEFA5 protein, particularly with peptide sequences of the P, B, and/or M binding sites of the DEFA5 protein. The targeted DEFA5 antibody may be incorporated into an assay for diagnosing and treating ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease in a subject suffering from inflammatory bowel disease. The assay may be provided in a kit. The targeted DEFA5 antibody may be used in a method for measuring the level of DEFA5 or DEFA5 expression in a sample collected from a subject, and determining, based on the level of DEFA5 or DEFA5 expression, whether the subject is suffering from ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease. A treatment may be based on the determination of whether the subject has ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease.

  • Publication number: 20240416296
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to emulsions, and more particularly, to multiple emulsions. In one aspect, multiple emulsions are formed by urging a fluid into a channel, e.g., by causing the fluid to enter the channel as a “jet.” Side channels can be used to encapsulate the fluid with a surrounding fluid. In some cases, multiple fluids may flow through a channel collinearly before multiple emulsion droplets are formed. The fluidic channels may also, in certain embodiments, include varying degrees of hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity. As examples, the fluidic channel may be relatively hydrophilic upstream of an intersection (or other region within the channel) and relatively hydrophobic downstream of the intersection, or vice versa. In some cases, the average cross-sectional dimension may change, e.g., at an intersection. For instance, the average cross-sectional dimension may increase at the intersection.
