Patent number: 9155354Abstract: The present invention is an insole topper pad adapted to provide an absorbent perspiration barrier between the bottom surface of the bare human foot and the top surface of a shoe's insole or footbed. The insole topper pad enables a user to easily transition from going barefoot to wearing shoes in a sockless manner, while further retaining a relatively hygienic environment within the shoe. The insole topper pad may be easily inserted in, or removed from, articles of footwear, and conveniently laundered on a daily basis. Further, the worry of unhealthy and embarrassing odors produced from prolonged bacteria build-up within a shoe may be substantially reduced. While eliminating the need for traditional socks, the insole topper pad allows the user to comfortably and sanitarily adapt to fashion and lifestyle trends which have significantly shifted, exposing the bare lower leg and ankle portion of the foot while wearing low rise shoes.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2012Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: William Curtis DesCampInventor: William Curtis Descamp

Patent number: 8991302Abstract: A brew basket for a brewing apparatus includes a splash protection structure to protect against spilling when the brew basket is removed prematurely with hot brewing liquid therein. The structure is a splash reservoir formed near the handle of the brew basket, extending the interior surface of the brew basket radially outward at the site of the compartment where the basket is pulled out of the brewing apparatus. A well or reservoir attenuates a wave of liquid created by pulling the basket out by directing the wave to the reservoir rather than impact the side wall of the basket, where hot liquid would then tend to splash or spill out.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2010Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: Wilbur Curtis CompanyInventors: Lucian Hite Lyall, III, Christopher Milner Enright

Patent number: 8951204Abstract: A system for continuously monitoring the blood pressure of a patient over an extended time interval requires using a blood pressure measuring unit (e.g. a sphygmomanometer) to calibrate an oximeter. Specifically, the oximeter is used to continuously detect and measure amplitudes for each blood flow pulse of the patient. Periodically, the sphygmomanometer is used to measure blood pressures (systolic and diastolic) in an artery of the patient. Immediately after the measurement cycle is completed, a computer correlates the measured systolic pressure with the pulse amplitude that is detected by the oximeter. Thereafter, the pulse amplitudes that are detected by the oximeter are used as indications of variations in the systolic pressure during the extended time interval that follows.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: The Guy P. Patent number: 8602140Abstract: Circuits, systems, and methods are disclosed to eliminate the requirement for an external electromechanical contactor. Integrating contactor circuits with a motor controller reduces cost. Additionally, the cost of the contactor circuit may be reduced by providing transistors designed to block current in only one direction in the event of an electrical fault corresponding to an electrical drive direction.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2012Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Curtis Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Roger White, Stephen Post

Patent number: 7898203Abstract: Electric motor controllers that dynamically adjust a motor resistance parameter are described. In order to adjust the motor resistance parameter, power is applied the electric motor while the controlled vehicle is stopped and its brake is set so that the vehicle remains stopped while a measurement is taken that can be used to determine motor resistance. A new motor resistance value is then generated based at least in part upon the measurement(s) and the motor resistance parameter is set to the new motor resistance value. The new motor resistance parameter may then be used in the control of the electric motor. In some embodiments, the measurements are taken after the controller receives a brake release request but before actually releasing the brake. The described arrangement can be used in a wide variety of motor controllers and is especially well suited for use in low cost controllers that control motors that are susceptible to wide variations in their resistance such as brushed permanent magnet DC motors.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2008Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignee: Curtis Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Marc R.
