  • Patent number: 4151783
Abstract: A flat, elongate workpiece such as a knitting-machine needle, stamped from sheet metal with a transverse lug whose narrow faces require precise machining, is clamped in a workpiece holder with its lug centered on an axis about which the workpiece holder and an associated tool mounting are relatively rotatable. The tool mounting includes two symmetrically positioned supports, carrying respective power-driven shaping tools such as grinding wheels or millers, which are limitedly movable in a plane including the axis and are interconnected by a tension spring drawing them toward each other. An interposed cam disk, engaged by rollers mounted on these supports, determines the extent to which the two shaping tools can approach the axis in machining respective lug faces during a relative rotation of up to 180.degree..

  • Patent number: 4151997
Abstract: An aerodynamic and hydromechanical hydroplaning disc with a solid unitary body comprised of aggregated material. The disc is heavier than the water it displaces and non-floating. A series of longitudinally oriented (i.e., meridionally oriented, or north-south) discontinuities are provided only on the extreme latitudinal periphery of the rim adjacent to the top and bottom surfaces of the disc. Said discontinuities: exert a greater interfering effect on the airflow and waterflow around the circumference than over the top and under the bottom surfaces; create a turbulent, separated and unseparated, peripheral boundary layer in air and water; reduce air resistance and water resistance; increase range, frequency of skips, and dynamic stability. Also, there is provided a granular texture on the bottom and circumferential surfaces of the disc which results in a more sure grip and improved hydroplaning stability (i.e., the ability of the disc to maintain a horizontal orientation while hydroplaning).

  • Patent number: 4151536
Abstract: A writing head overlying a recording medium, in the form of a sheet with edges respectively extending in mutually orthogonal directions X and Y, carries a linear array of equispaced electrodes extending in the X direction over a fraction of the width of the sheet. The writing head is displaceable in the Y direction along a supporting bar which in turn may be moved in the X direction. A control unit commands the selective energization of these electrodes to record a dot pattern as the writing head moves in the Y direction to sweep a column of dot positions, the column being wide enough to accommodate several alphanumerical characters and/or graphic symbols read out on a line-by-line basis from a plurality of memory sections. With at least one additional linear electrode array on the writing head, generally transverse to the X direction, heavy lines or curves may be traced on the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 4150776
Abstract: The procedure according to the invention, for joining together stainless el or superalloy parts, consists of placing an interface material, chosen from a group containing tin, indium, antimony, gallium and germanium or consisting of a combination of these elements, between the contacting surfaces of the parts, and then subjecting the entire assembly to heat treatment in a controlled atmosphere at a temperature greater than 900.degree. C. but in every case less than the solidus point of the parts to be joined together. If the parts are not of the same nature, the lower solidus point will be the limiting temperature. The treatment lasts as long as necessary to permit the interface material to migrate and compounds or solutions to form, ensuring the diffusion brazing of the parts to be joined. The parts are held together under a moderate pressure during at least part of the treatment, so as to maintain their positions relative to each other and to promote the diffusion without causing deformation.

  • Patent number: 4151529
Abstract: An air-navigational beacon, designed to simulate an imaginary circular ben with a multiplicity of pairs of diametrically opposite dipoles excited in cyclic succession, comprises an array of stationary dipole pairs disposed along lines parallel to a given direction. The spacing of the dipoles of each pair varies from one pair to another according to a sinusoidal law in their order of energization. The two dipoles of a pair are energized in relative quadrature and with a signal amplitude proportional to their spacing.

  • Patent number: 4149129
Abstract: The following specification describes a magnetic assembly for use in controlling the main contacts of a circuit breaker. The magnetic assembly includes a yoke, an armature for attraction to the yoke to move an operating lever and a pivotable adjustment arm. The lever operates the trip crossbar, which opens the main contacts and is in turn pivotably carried by the adjustment arm. One end of the operating lever is held against longitudinal movement relative the trip crossbar, when the adjustment arm is pivoted to calibrate the circuit breaker. The lever therefore pivots on the adjustment arm to move the armature towards or from the yoke to control the armature air gap without altering the lever travel distance to the crossbar. The armature is also mounted on the lever for relatively linear movement in relationship to the yoke.

  • Patent number: 4147624
Abstract: An adsorbate is removed from an adsorbent by contacting the adsorbent with a near critical liquid which is a solvent for the adsorbate. The near critical liquid containing the dissolved adsorbate is then subjected to at least partial vaporization to form a vapor in which the adsorbate is substantially less soluble thereby making it possible to remove the adsorbate from the near critical liquid. The vapor is then condensed to restore it to the near critical liquid state wherein it is a solvent for the adsorbate so that it may be reused. The process is particularly suitable for adsorbent regeneration in the treating of waste-waters.
