Abstract: An installation for storing and handling a granular or pulverulent product, comprising a vessel for storing the product, which may be extracted by means of at least one handling apparatus comprising a raking scoop which causes, during its active travel, the product to pour over the upper edge of an upwardly divergent wall of the vessel. The storage vessel is disposed in a store protected from the exterior medium. The handling apparatus, or each handling apparatus is constituted by a dragline the raking scoop of which is carried by a rigid boom which is mounted on a movable frame located outside the vessel in a high position adjacent the divergent wall of the vessel. • Patent number: 4161652
Abstract: System for optically aiming a laser beam on to a target. The system comprises a mirror which reflects the laser beam towards the target and which is supported by a base by means of a pivot and first and second vibrating control members. This pivot and the control members together determine a first mirror rotation axis and a second mirror rotation axis perpendicular to the first axis. Means are provided for respectively generating a first and a second reference signals for driving the mirror. A laser radiation detector receives the laser radiation reflected by the target and produces a reception signal from which are derived first and second reaiming signal components. The first and second vibrating control members are operated by respectively the sum of the first reference signal and the first reaiming signal component and the sum of the second reference signal and the second reaiming signal component.

  • Patent number: 4161060
Abstract: Two metallic half-moulds are produced from a prototype. The half-moulds have complementary mould faces which abut when the mould is closed, and moulding surfaces formed with annular rim depressions joined by a bridge cavity, each rim depression bordering a support surface for a false lens. A webbed frame front is moulded, false lenses are cut from that moulded front, and the mould faces which abut are set-back by a total amount corresponding to the shrinkage of the false lenses, so that the false lenses are gripped between the support surfaces and shape lens bezels in the rims when a frame front is moulded.

  • Patent number: 4161347
Abstract: In an optical fibre connector, the optical fibre is accurately positioned by clamping it in the channel formed between three parallel rollers each of which bears tangentially on the other two. If the fibre is of exactly the expected diameter such clamping is firm and precise, but given the variation in fibre diameters that must be accommodated there is a danger of there being excessive fibre play. This connector overcomes the problem of fibre tolerances by inserting resilient means in the said channel. Such resilient means may for example be constituted by a set of three resiliently deformable elastomer rings, one mounted on each rod.

  • Patent number: 4160561
Abstract: A shim is clamped between a component of a vehicle bumper assembly and a support member to provide a desired spacing for bumper alignment. The weight of the shim and the cost of material for its manufacture are minimized by forming the shim from sheet metal half the thickness of the desired spacing, and by folding the metal to provide double thickness in selected load bearing regions. A number of openings may be provided in other regions further to reduce the weight. Additional folded areas may be used for applications where loading is not restricted to areas adjacent the bolts, and serrations may be embossed in the shim to facilitate mounting of the shim and enhance its stiffness.

  • Patent number: 4160629
Abstract: A liquid immersible scroll pump in which all of the pump components including electric motor drive means are contained within a housing and through which the liquid is pumped at a controlled predetermined pressure. Hydraulic pressure within the pump provides sufficient axial force on the scroll members to enhance radial sealing as well as the tangential sealing of the flanks of the scroll wraps. The pump is particularly suited for low-cost mass production and may be used as a fuel pump, either immersed in the fuel tank of an automobile or mounted outside the tank, to provide fuel under pressure through a line to the engine.

  • Patent number: RE30052
Abstract: A material for use in making electrical contacts is produced in a powder form suitable for later processing into electrical contacts by standard metallurgical techniques. The material consists of a first metal, such as silver, and the oxide of a second metal, such as cadmium, added to the first metal in a proportion up to the limits of solubility of the second metal in the first metal. An oxide of a third metal having a low electronic work function level, such as lithium oxide, is added and uniformly distributed on the surfaces of the powder particles by precipitation. A fourth metal, such as tellurium, that is insoluble in the first metal is also added to provide selected characteristics.
