Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of disorders of the central nervous system, in particular neurological and psychiatric disorders, and the prevention and/or treatment thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to the finding that soluble amyloid precursor protein a (sAPP?) presents a particular binding site, which allows for binding to the GABABR1a receptor, thereby causing an agonistic effect through specific binding to Sushi domain 1 of GABABR1a. As a result, the frequencies of excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic currents are reduced. Accordingly, the invention provides compounds able to interfere with the association of sAPP? with Sushi domain 1 of GABABR1a and as such with selective impairment of GABABR1sa beneficial in neurological and psychiatric disorders. The invention as well provides methods and (high content) screening assays for the production of said compounds.
Abstract: The invention relates to oil-in-water emulsion in which specific oils (e.g., lauric oils) are used in the oil phase while surprisingly maintaining excellent transparency. In one aspect, said emulsions comprise fatty acid in oil phase. The invention comprises an energy efficient process for making said fatty acid containing transparent nanoemulsions.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for automatic and continuous measurement of a sedation state of a patient in an intensive care unit. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: providing signals representative of the condition of the patient, said signals comprising cardio-circulatory signals, signals representative of the respiratory activity and signals representative of the motor activity of the patient; and determining a global index representative of the sedation state of the patient.

Abstract: A support leveling device includes leveling feet mounted on a bottom plate of an appliance. Each leveling foot comprises a sheath, having a hollow cavity with an opening, and mounted on the plate; a regulating foot, the plate having a through hole corresponding to the opening of the hollow cavity, one end of the regulating foot passing through the through hole and extending into the hollow cavity of the sheath for axial movement relative thereto, and another end of the regulating foot located at an outer side of the bottom plate and supported on a support surface; and a hydraulic medium sealed in a cavity defined by the regulating foot and the sheath. When the leveling foot is placed on an uneven support surface, the regulating feet are stressed to axially move along the sheath, and the hydraulic medium is stressed to act on the regulating foot for support leveling.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing a stage for amplifying the power of a variable envelope signal including at least one amplifier. For each amplifier, a form of ideal variation in average power POUTL is selected. For each value of each setting parameter and for each average input power value, a value of an optimisation criterion is calculated on the basis of the mathematical expectation of at least one optimisation parameter. An optimum value of each setting parameter is determined and the amplification stage is produced with a number of amplifiers in parallel determined on the basis of an average output power value and with, for each amplifier, matching circuits providing the optimum values of the setting parameters. The invention also relates to an amplification stage produced in this manner.

Abstract: In a method and magnetic resonance (MR) apparatus for MR image reconstruction, an image reconstruction algorithm is used that operates on one calibration matrix that is formed by reorganizing a number of individual, undersampled k-space data sets respectively acquired by multiple reception coils in a parallel MR data acquisition from a subject exhibiting motion. The motion causes the k-space data sets to exhibit errors. In order to use the calibration matrix in the reconstruction algorithm, it is subjected to an iterative rank reduction procedure in which, in each iteration, a residual is calculated for each data point that represents how poorly, due to motion-induced corruptions, that data point satisfies the low rank constraint, and non-satisfying data points are removed from the data point for the next iteration. The resulting low rank matrix at the end of the iterations is then used to produce images with fewer motion-induced errors.
