  • Patent number: 4090136
Abstract: The invention relates to the coding of analog signals. An analog signal is compared with a comparison signal increasing according to a given law, until equality with the analog signal is reached; then, the comparison signal remains constant during a predetermined time and resumes its original value. The transmission device includes a processing circuit at the transmission end and at the receiving end; at the transmission end, the processing circuit is preceded by a comparator receiving the analog signal, and the comparison signal supplied by a converter is fed thereto by the processing circuit; at the receiving end, the signal to be decoded is supplied to a forming circuit connected to the input of the processing circuit. The present invention is applicable to data transmission and to telephony in particular.

  • Patent number: 4088464
Abstract: A method for the fractionation of air is described allowing the separation of oxygen, nitrogen and argon by a single fractionation column from the top of which gaseous nitrogen is drawn and to which liquid nitrogen is recycled, whereas from the bottom of the column liquid oxygen is drawn which is then heated and recycled into the same, a gaseous product enriched in argon being drawn from an intermediate zone of the fractionation column. The apparatus for carrying out the method comprises substantially one single rectification column which is connected on its top to a drawing and cooling circuit for gaseous nitrogen and recycling circuit for liquid nitrogen; on its middle zone to the supplying line for compressed, cooled and expanded air to be fractionated; and on its bottom to a drawing and heating circuit for liquid oxygen to be partially recycled to the same bottom zone.

  • Patent number: 4086744
Abstract: A device for re-orienting and redistributing hinge-lid packets of cigarettes for application of sealing strips or revenue stamps to the hinge-lids. A first conveyor unit receives the packets, disposed on edge and contacting one another with their wide sides, and having their hinge-lid portions facing away from one side of the conveyor unit. The first conveyor unit moves the packets gradually to a second conveyor unit. This unit moves more rapidly than the first, to space the packets apart. It cooperates with a deflector disk and a narrow overhead belt to turn each packet so that it travels to the delivery end of the second conveyor unit, with the hinge-lid portion facing forward, toward a machine for applying a seal strip or the like.
