  • Patent number: 4075888
Abstract: To measure undulatory wear of the rails, a carriage moving along a railroad track has three measuring bases formed by girders each supported on two rollers and each having a rail sensor providing a measurement of deformation of the rail intermediate the support rollers defining the respective measuring base. The measuring bases have different lengths to provide measurements of the amplitude of undulations of given wavelength values. The length of each successively shorter measuring base is related to the length(s) of the longer one(s) to include amplitude measurements for wavelength values not provided by the longer measuring base(s).

  • Patent number: 4074441
Abstract: A fiber sheet manufacturing apparatus, such as a paper machine, is described, including a rotary through dryer for drying the sheet material on the same foraminous conveyor where it is initially formed. The dryer is provided with a plurality of separate vacuum chambers circumferentially spaced within the foraminous dryer drum, which are each in registration with a different one of a plurality of sources of hot air outside of the drum. The hot air is transmitted through the sheet material and the conveyor into the vacuum chambers to dry the sheet material. Each of the vacuum chambers and the hot air sources is independently controlled to provide different temperatures and vacuum pressures for more efficient and versatile operation. The air is transmitted from the vacuum chambers out of the drum through their separate exhaust conduits extending through the end of the drum and spaced from the drum support bearings.

  • Patent number: 4075432
Abstract: A concentrator for use in a PCM telephone network. The concentrator has conventional units such as line equipments, a space concentration network and a coder/decoder-PCM sampler and additionally includes a time cross-connection network and two different types of junctors, one type being a complete junctor and the other type (a simplified type) conducting only during the conversation part of a call. The concentrator therefore arranges firstly for a normal junctor to set a call up, then subsequently releases it, substituting it by a simplified junctor. This substitution causes a complementary modification of the time connection in the time connection network to keep the same connection channel with the exchange.

  • Patent number: 4073309
Abstract: Disclosed is a control system for maintaining the linear alignment of end-coupled, adjacent sections of self-propelled sprinkler irrigation apparatus, and for interrupting power to the drive means when any adjacent sections are in gross linear misalignment uncorrectable by the control system. A magnetic reed switch and permanent magnet combination, together with a metallic shield interposed between them, act as alignment sensors and overtravel sensors to open or close the reed switch in accordance with the alignment status of the irrigation system. A logic circuit utilizing an exclusive OR-gate is disclosed which causes the function of the alignment control sensors to reverse whenever the direction of the irrigation apparatus reverses, and, also, an electronic circuit utilizing a digital capacitance meter to indicate which tower is in gross linear misalignment, if any, should the apparatus automatically shut down.
